Joanna Dark actor asks fans to call for Perfect Dark to be saved

True, it would have been better to make the game character more siimlar to this beautiful actress. Seeing the result in the game, I thought they were using one of these other actresses instead:

The AAA teams now are in the thousands, not in the hundreds. Diablo IV has almost 9000 people on its game credits, and Starfield almost 4000.

And yes, AAA take more years and people to be made, because they require way more work to be down now than in previous generations, or specially when compared to the N64 days.

Games are way longer, way more complex, way more full featured and way more detailed. That requires way more work to be done.

This isn't the first or second round of layoffs. Redfall and its team got axed some rounds before, around a year ago. Meaning they were one of the weakest options they had back then. Back then they didn't shut down Perfect Dark and its team, which means they consider more promising Perfect Dark and its team than Redfall and its team.

A few layoff and closures rounds later, MS wanted to reduce this week their development costs in X millions, and to do so fired a certain amount of people, shutting down some teams and projects, choosing the weakest choices they had available now.
OMG I had no clue it was in the thousands. Dear god that is insane. 9000 people worked on Diablo IV. Seems like it would be impossible to make a profit with that payroll.

The Initiative had 1 studio.
Rockstar has a dozen studios.
Ubisoft has almost 40 studios.
??? What's The Initiative have to do with this?

I was talking about Rare having a good run on the N64, then said the only other dev that came to mind as having an equally good run in a single gen was Rockstar during PS2 era.

They all worked at the same studio.

The fact that you ALSO think Ubisoft is a single studio tells everything.

That's not at all what I said, as indicated by the s in studios.

Immersive Sims are not attractive to young kids these days except for some of us adults. Doubt it'll get saved.
Minecraft is the best selling game of all time and it should be considered an immersive sim based on its core mechanics alone. The key difference is that Minecraft doesn't have a clear defined objective but it follows the golden rule of immersive sim: If-you-think-you-can-do-it-it-must-work. This is the key ethos of all immersive sims so I don't buy this immersive sim doesn't appeal, it does, because the end goal is pretty much the Matrix and/or Ready Player One which no doubt will most definitely appeal to the most audience, provided all you have to do is just plug-and-play.

Perfect Dark 2 should have been made like an indie boomer shooter. Make it look pretty much like it is being made on an N64 except for bad frame rate and low resolution. Could have been made by a team of 20 or so people and in less than two years easily.

Then what's the logic in bringing them up as a developer (singular) having a similar output as Rare? It's five different developers, period. Some of those games (Midnight Club, GTAIII) were even released before their respective developers were acquired by Rockstar.

I'm gonna be hanged for this, but I think most normal men would never actually reject a woman with reboot Joanna's looks.

Like, she really isn't bad looking at all.

Most men are desperate for sex(even some married men. Look up rates of sexless marriages) and biologically wired for sexual opportunism so they can spread their seed. A man not rejecting a woman's advances is nothing special. Men will sleep with women they despise. Will sleep with women they find physically unattractive enough to never consider a long term exclusive pairing.

The game I REALLY DID NOT want to see get cancelled 😞

Wtf MS?
Yeah, immersive sims are in a rough spot rn. Deus Ex is dead, Arkane is never going to make another Dishonored or Prey, Vampire Bloodlines 2 is in dev hell, Thief has been dead forever, System Shock just gets some remasters, Perfect Dark gets cancelled.

One of the best and most detailed genres out there, and it gets no support from gamers.

and it gets no support from gamers.
Instead, these fools continue to celebrate the non-existent xbox brand. I never was into xbox, but even I am annoyed by this. I really wanted perfect dark to be released.

After Tango with evil within 3 and now this, I can't take anyone seriously who defends this shit.

Won't happen obviously. It's not even a big IP that people asked for to be rebooted. I was surprised when they announced it. A completely new studio could have done something new. A new IP. I don't know who decided Perfect Dark would be the game The Initiative should do as its first game. I still don't quite understand it.

ITT people thinking that Perfect Dark having gadgets and non-corridor level design makes it an immersive sim... smh my head.

If we wanted an imsim we wouldn't be asking for a Perfect Dark sequel. Leave PD out of the cult.
I do love imsims, but this really isn't what PD is about, it's not at an RPG at all and there's much more shooting involved.

And these are my types of games. MS really are incomprehensibly incompetent, at running anything that is not windows it seems

Because a 10 hour linear campaign FPS doesn't sell in 2025.

It's not gonna happen. As special as the game was to me it came out TWENTY-FIVE years ago and the only we got since was a very mediocre sequel.

I'm just glad we were able to get it included in NSO and I can play with my Switch N64 controller.

If I'm really honest, the IP itself wasn't even that special, the team at Rare was. Their N64 run was insane, and imo probably one of the greatest ever on a single system:

  • Goldeneye 007
  • Diddy Kong Racing
  • Banjo-Kazooie
  • Jet Force Gemini
  • Donkey Kong 64
  • Perfect Dark
  • Conker's Bad Fur Day
This was in 4 years, 1997-2001.
It's strange. Just like music back in the day, games used to come out from studios yearly. Bands in the 60's and 70's used to release albums 2x a year sometimes. For example, Pink Floyd released 11 albums from 1967 to 1979. Beatles released their whole 12 album catalog in 8 years. 1963-1970. Nowdays, games and music are lucky to release once every 4-5 years.

Unless Microsoft revived Free Radical Design (for the third time) and put David Doak and his team on it, I just don't see a point in reviving Perfect Dark.

If you thought the Beatles' run was exceptional, look up The Beach Boys discography. 24 studio albums in 18 years.

I'm going to make 2 observations:

  1. Quantity of output appears to correlate to cost of production. Recording an album in a professional studio was WAY cheaper in the 60s and 70s than it is now (even considering inflation), despite all the great modern technology we have that is supposed to make things easier/faster. Sound familiar?
  2. Length of product. All those Beatles and Beach Boys albums almost all had run times well under 40 minutes. Tracks were short, often under 3:00. Sound familiar? Final Fantasy VII (OG) was a 35 hour game. Remake + Rebirth combined (main story only) are 80 hours.
We've made everything so long and so much more expansive to make.

Fucking hell, if they had modeled the in-game Joanna to the actress..

The industry keeps pulling this bs. Did the same with the outlaws actress.

Pics of actress?

Depending on how attractive she is, begging may work

Thank each of you for using the correct term.

When the title of the article insists on "actor" when it's about an actress...

...I stop caring about their views, this tell already gives me what I need to know about them.

And any notion that it's somehow more empowering for women to forcibly remove gendered endings from English -- when every other language has gendered variants baked deeper into the whole grammar around the word -- is too absurd to even engage with.
