This would've been more useful had they said something before people who would've bought it had already imported it.

But it would've been even better if they'd just go ahead and make an NES Micro.

See, the thing is, these colors don't mean anything to most prospective American buyers. I really don't understand this. It looks good for what it is, but a lot of people will just say "Ah, a red and tan GameBoy." If it really was an American NES version, I would probably snap it up quick. This, not so sure.

What's up with the big roman numeral I in the upper left corner?

Stop tempting me Nintendo. Just, stop. I don't even care that you didn't do a NES redesign this time around. I still want it.

I know you know what I want, and that's what makes this so hard.

So please, stop.

:(

Controller I.

Controller II looked a little different, I think had an extra switch too.

Edit: Apparently a bit more different than I remembered...

It's controller #1. They released a faceplate for #2 on Club Nintendo I think for those that are particularly obsessive.

The micros sure are sexy, but I'm holding out till I can use it with the GC link cable. Nintendo will be releasing the adapter for the micro link port / gba link port adapter sometime this month and I don't see any reason why with that I couldn't use it with a GameCube.

I think we all saw something coming. Famicom kind left feild but NES for sure.

If they bring this out in the uk i will be miffed. I just bought a silver one, anyone know when they will start selling the covers in the uk.

Wow I didn't expect them to release the Famicom edition in USA, I'm torn between getting this or an all black one... Would've still liked to see what a NES edition one might have looked like.

I also wonder if this will be a limited edition? I'm waiting for a price drop on Mirco, but if these are limited...

If the packaging is as cool as the Famicom Micro in Japan: Sold.

I keep hearing how cool the packaging was, but I never saw it, anyone have an image?

The Famicom? Oo

Nintendo is really trying to hold their ultra hardcore fans in a tight grasp, but they have probably already imported it :)

Famicom or NES Micro, I don't care, just bring one out so they can have an excuse to bring out one more line of NES Classics games. Star Soldier, Ghost 'n Goblins, Adventure Island, and KID F*CKING ICARUS!

Wouldn't a NES Micro make more sense?

Yes, and Reggie said a faceplate may come later.

As to why bring the Famicom version to the U.S., here's my guess.

1) GB Micro was a huge hit in Japan (at least for a few weeks) and the famicom versions where the biggest sellers/reason.
2) GBA sales in September for the U.S. were way lower than most expected considering the GBMicro and GBASP+ launched.

Plan:
Try to boost the penetration of GBMicro by bringing out the most popular version in Japan here immediately (Already produced and just needs packaging translation). If that helps, then an NES one would be sure to come. If it doesn't, come out with a cheap NES faceplate, anyways.

Nintendo wants/needs the GBA line to be viable for a while longer to give DS room to breath and give them time to ready the release of the next GameBoy.

I forgot there's a volumn slider on controler II

That is one sleek looking little system. Will the controller II faceplate be included with the US release? I am asking because the silver and black micros come with three different faceplates.

As a complete aside, I FINALLY understand why only player one can pause in super mario brothers no matter who is playing - famicom controller #2 didn't have a start button.

Life-long mystery finally solved.

Hahahah. I never noticed that before either. Thanks, GAF!!!

They should really be selling these faceplates separately... :lol

Yeah but the famicom micro is not just a face plate. The actual unit is the maroonish-red color, which is why I've been lusting over the import one.

What the heck is the mic for on the 2nd controller?

I remember having the Famicom when I was a kid, and for no reason, talk in to the mic.
My voice would come out of the speakers on my TV...
That's all it did.

I don't think any voice recognition game ever came out for the Famicom,
but I could be wrong.

Yep, this news would have made a difference 2 weeks ago. The extra 40 bucks is down the toilet :(

They just have a bunch of product they wanna sell quickly is my guess. Who cares. I want one and now I don't have to pay extra to import it. Hopefully they include a little history book or something that explains the significance of the colors and the famicom. That would atleast justify releasing it here a little bit.

bored so i did a mockup (my first one evar i think). that and the other one annoyed me, not that mine ended up all that great either. maybe nighttrain can peddle it off as his own creation one day.

(to hell with the gaming age watermark and the lettering on the buttons, and the various other little crappy problems)

You could scream into the microphone to kill the Pols Voice enemies in Legend of Zelda and make the shop keeper in Kid Icarus lower the prices (in the western version you had to press A & B on the second controller).

Famicom Micro in the U.S. = Stupid

Just think of it as Nintendo releasing a new color for Micro. I do not care about the historical significance. It looks very cool.

Is that what Nintendo meant in the description of Pols Voice in the American instruction manual for LoZ?

A ghost with big ears and a weak point - he hates loud noise

I remember trying to figure out what that meant as a kid - should I use a bomb? The whistle? That doesn't work, so does he hate the sound of arrows, then? God damn Nintendo, why did you mention that in the NES manual if there was no microphone on the NES controller?
