Considering picking up the 3DS version of the original when it's released.

How is it in terms of story compared to Persona? Been looking around and they seem similar in that regard with the contemporary setting and characters.

And I still haven't finished the first one, I'm on the last day :< I just suck at these kinds of games.

But I'll probably pick this one up day one regardless. Even though I was horrible at the first game I really did enjoy it a lot. I'm glad it is on DS, since I won't be picking up a 3DS for quite awhile... (no money + can't see the 3D anyway makes early adoption so pointless for me ;.;)

This guy's right arm is fucking short.

Other than that they look fine, worse than the ones from the previous game though.

Diggin' Io's jacket.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like she'll actually wear it in the game itself. Bummer.

Edit: Also I hope we get to select our skills again during fusion. And that we get a Compendium.

So are the jackets supposed to be like angel wings like the protagonist from Devil Survivor 1's headphones were like devil horns.

I'm surprised they are developing it for the DS, considering that they are already porting the original version to the 3DS and the relatively low sales of DS RPGs in Japan recently. Not that I complain, though. It being on DS means that also peasants from Europe will be able to play it (for example, me ;o).

Actually, I expected a bit more 3DS enthusiasm from Japanese devs in general. There weren't many (or any) announcements of higher profile 3DS games since when, the Level-5 party? After the great success of the original DS I assumed that everyone would want to jump on the boat early this time around.

Anyway, great news. Loved the first one, even though the difficulty wasn't balanced very well.

I dont know if this was mentioned or not but are there any info on how many demons are in the game and if the sprites are animated this time?

Is this related story-wise to the first one at all?

So far from what's revealed, there is no known connection yet. But the first game took place in modern day Tokyo, and this game also takes place in modern day Tokyo. There could be an in-direct link like what they did with Persona 3 and Persona 4.

The story in Devil Survivor 2 is about alien-like invaders led by a mysterious group called Septentrion who launch an all out attack on Japan. No one knows if they are some sort of savior for mankind, or harbingers of destruction. The only ones who stand in their way are 13 devil summoners who have made contracts with demons to gain the power to oppose the invaders. The invaders apparently only attack once a day, and once again there is a "time limit" of 7 days. Septentrion is made up of a guy and four female companions.

It's not short, it's just the picture doesn't show depth. the guy is extending his arm forward

no real interest in the 3ds right now, but it'd be damn tempting to get one just so i could play this - thank atlus, that won't be necessary :) ...

looks awesome. me happy...

I'm also bummed at the lack of red jacket in the actual screenshots.

Does anyone recognize any of the demon sprites from Strange Journey in these shots? You'd assume they'd have to go SOMEWHERE after putting so much effort into them.

Also I said it in the famitsu thread and I'll say it again, I'll probably do the shameful double dip of regret when the overclocked version comes out. I just hope it's easier to replay than DS1. I wish saves weren't tied directly the cart so that there would be some token bonus for people who went through it already once.

Also it sounds like there's something similar to s-links going on in this game, which is kind of rad. Even if it's not Persona-style s-links, I wouldn't mind a game that has a similar "friendship system" like Shining Force 3 had.

I'm still not feeling the looks of the MC this time. Maybe he will grow on me.

So in this game we are only fighting the invaders? So it's not going to be like the original where you fight demons?

Ah, Septentrion's root meaning refers to the Big Dipper. Which makes sense, since two of the invaders shown in the designs/screens are Alioth and Dubhe - two of the stars in the Big Dipper. This also explains why the time limit is 7 days. Each day will feature an attack by a different invader, and there are seven stars in the Big Dipper.

The Invaders are basically the bosses of each day. The rest of the filler enemies have to be other demons.

Is Kenji Ito (of saga series fame) seriously the composer? thats amazing!
This announcement is in some ways a relief despite being an early 3ds adopter (the region lock kills it). Good to still be able to play an Atlus game as a European.

Sounds a bit NGEish to me. Although for it apply more thoroughly it'd need everyone to become more mentally unglued as the days go by.

The general narrative theme this time definitely without a doubt feels inspired by Evangelion and the various ripoffs it spawned.

Wait....why isn't this being ported to 3DS instead? I loved the first, I'll be buying this, but wouldn't that make a lot more sense?

(Yeah, bigger install base on the DS, but why not release for both?)

Cuz development was on the DS first most likely

The same reason Persona 4 was made for the PS2.

(Large install base + Well known hardware with lots of assets already made for you from earlier games = Win for niche devs.)

Who is this Akiko Koto person?

Why the hell is he doing the art for this game?

Huh? What are you talking about? He's the art director of Devil Survivor too. He's worked on tons of Atlus SMT titles too. Regular graphics dude.

Day 1 purchase for sure. Which also reminds me that I should finish the other character routes in Devil Survivor whenever I have the time.

I dunno, I wouldn't comment at all if they weren't releasing the DS1 port, but in light of the fact that they are this just seems weird. Why re-release a two year old game on the new platform when its sequel is in development? The sequel is reusing a lot of the raw code probably, you clearly can do the porting job without too much effort, so why not release for both platforms?

Just struck me as odd.

As far as the possible connections to Devil Survivor's story goes...

I'm pretty sure the only logical ending that this story could realistically follow, would be the Gin route ending. Every other ending results in some crazy shit happening which changes the world entirely. Atsuro's ending is another possibility, but if humans harnessed the power of demons and Japan becames a major superpower because of that, it wouldn't make sense that there are only 13 devil summoners to face the invaders...

Yeah, not sure what I am talking about either.

For some reason, I thought they replaced Yasuda, but you included him the op...

Still haven't played the first game despite owning it for months, but I'll get to it someday. So glad seeing this on the regular DS since I just bought a new Lite and I'm not planning to get a 3DS anytime soon. Hope this trend continues and we'll see a lot of support for the regular DS from japanese developers.

Zerokku

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?
So glad to see this is coming out. I'll be picking it up day 1 when it hits stateside.

And promptly double-dipping when they do a Devil survivor 2 overclock or something like that

The main girl's design is much more tolerable than Yuzu's, which is good. Big mammies, though.

Uh, and I guess I'm looking forward to the game.

Io's cute, but she does instantly bring to mind a feeling of Chie. Also, I see that one of the rules of the Devil Survivor world is that MC's closest female friend must always be chesty.

Really wish Atlus would get more on the "let me pick MC's sex" train, though. If there's any one series I think would be perfect for more gender equality in that regard, it's MegaTen. (Or maybe I'm just over-estimating the amount of female fans I think the series has.)

The character designs are an improvement over the first game, at least I like them better. Hopefully the female lead is a big improvement over Yuzu. >_> Unfortunately, her cup size is still too big. :\ I am totally naming the main character Shinji.

It really should be the standard for mute protagonists. Though a female main character wouldn't have worked in Devil Survivor.
Unless the original Abel was transgender. :O
