Hey, I hit the big time!

Oh, and I typically collect my film tickets, but this one got special treatment!

Real talk, though: does this movie have a scene where someone says something in technobabble and is then asked to "repeat that in English"?

Just saw this, was pretty bad. defintiely felt like the middle portion of the movie was missing. The climax is as terrible as everyone says it is, btw.

I thought the trailers were better than Ant-Man or Age of Ultron. Granted that's not saying much...

Hopefully Fox deliver with Deadpool and Apocalypse.

Best wishes.

Maybe in another dimension, Trank, it's too bad I wasn't seeing the film in that one.

Dear Moses, that movie was short. When people are talking about the story structure as they mention the feeling of a missing "second act", they're not kidding. The character arcs in this film are just about non-existent, and the conflicts that are set-up among each character aren't resolved properly, if at all. Even if this movie wasn't a good Fantastic Four movie that people expect when they think of the comic heroes, I feel it still could've been a really interesting take on them nonetheless. Yeah, it's "grounded" (whatever the FUCK that means anymore in regards to comic book movies after 2008), but it could've been a really great character driven story nonetheless, and with this cast it should've happened (in the end my favorite actor in the movie ended up being Reg E. Cathey). The finale when Doom starts up to the end of the film goes for what feels like 15 minutes then the only heartfelt moment between this team and it cuts to the title.

Then if you want you can nitpick the hell out of it, too. It's blatant that Mara is wearing a wig after the incident, and that would be totally fine if only it were consistent throughout the film. It's off and on where there are scenes with and without it. When it came to Doom, the cloth for his hood makes no sense anywhere in the film. Apparently it was fashioned out of his suit and it can survive fire. Plus, his head looks really big for some reason, but I think that's just the costume, it seemed kinda funny is all. Anyways, I'll put this above TASM2, because unlike that film, I expected this movie to be below dogshit. TASM2 I expected to be at least decent.

The budget was $120 million.

Oh my. I thought it was like $75 million for some reason. I wonder if the money went to Mara's wig or something because the effects didn't look like they were that good from the trailers.

Welp, that's not so good then. And word of mouth will likely guarantee a second week nosedive anyways, especially up against Mission: Impossible.

I imagine the second week drop off will be massive
I honestly doubt it'll make that much on its opening weekend period. Hell, I wouldn't be shocked if it didn't make #1 for its opening weekend. It'll likely end up between $30-$45 million for its opening weekend. But again, I wouldn't be surprised if Mission Impossible wins this week.

It was also the fist movie to gross over $20 million in a weekend and drop more than 70% by the next week. It broke even, but that drop off was insane

Yeah. FF I don't think is in that category. I think it's going to fare poorly, and continue to grab those bills.

the commercials for this are horrible. No one is talking about it outside of barely suppressed snickering.

24 million opening, it'll limp like a poor wounded animal to 100m.

Based on your prediction, it'll have a hard time passing Mission Impossible. That being said, I'm pretty sure a decent number of people will see it just to find out how bad it is. It's like watching a trainwreck.

Just out of curiosity, Neoxon, have you seen it yet? I just want to go to see how bad it really is personally. I don't want to give my money away to a cheap movie, though.

To everyone else who's seen it

where the fuck did Doom get that cape? How do you make fabric on a world with no life?

The
green goo that got in his blood let him make whatever he wants out of willpower.

Did they explain how the place gave them powers? And why Doom is more powerful?

The
green goo is alive. They left after a brief exposure. Doom got all up in that shit. More goo = more power.

Again, it's not as offensive in the film as in text. It works for the character at the end.

Disagree completely. It didn't work in the film at all.

The movie makes a
very blatant show of his brother treating him like crap and using the line.

The Thing is shown as
having emotional hangups that are never resolved (and he's just suddenly magically OK w/Reed).

For him to suddenly decide to use "the line" as his battle cry in the climax makes absolutely zero sense since there is nothing in the character development to back it up. It's like the writers just threw it in because that's what he says, completely forgetting about what they'd done in the first act.

It doesn't work at all, but rather sticks out like a sore thumb.

My cousin over in Atlanta got to see an early screening & went into detail on why I shouldn't see it. I'm dodging the bullet, but that doesn't mean others will.

I trust his opinion, & not just because he's family. But yeah, he absolutely detested this movie.

Really liked the first half of the movie. The second half, well...
it just seems like they did a good job of building up the characters and back story and this cool other dimension, but then couldn't tie it altogether in the end. The whole Doom story felt rushed and he didn't really make a very interesting villain when all said and done.
