FAST Racing NEO (Wii U) out on Dec 10th in NA and EU for €14.99 / $14.99 / £10.99

BTW, regarding the NintendoLife speed comparison video, Alex later posted this comment as well:
"This is one of the slowest tracks; I chose it because it was one of the few courses I could actually reliably complete in Hypersonic."

LMAO

I was impressed that he was able to finish the track on all 3 speeds.

Haha, nice! I can imagine a "crash everywhere" video would have been bad in showing the speed.

This is day 1 for me :-)

Also wish that Hydro Thunder came out this christmas for Wii U and the holidays would be perfect.

Also about the size, many Nintendo games are really small in size, which is good :)

I appreciate that Alex really tries to really master the game. I'll read his review a lot more carefully when it appears, to get some tips. (This isn't a game that I'll wait for a review on for a purchase, it's so polished and full of content for the low asking price that it's a nobrainer.)

Watching that, I can't help but feel that the combined boost/shield gauge should just be the default for all modes, not just the hardest difficulty. Seams like it adds a lot.

That would be way too hardcore for most of the people who will end up playing this game. And multiplayer would suck because everyone not in first place would lose.

On the first point, perhaps. On the second point, I'm not so sure that would necessarily be true.

Being in first place (which is a requirement in Hero mode) gives incentive to use your boost meter even though conserving that meter would protect you from damage. If you have no incentive to use up the meter, the dynamic of carefully balancing between using the meter to get ahead and conserving the meter to protect yourself is gone.

That mode just doesn't make sense for multiplayer if it were to retain what's so appealing about it in the first place.

That would only be true if the person in the lead was already dominating anyway and at that point it really makes no difference. In a close race the leader would still need to be just as mindful of their shield as everyone else.

But anyway, this is all just hypothetical, the proof is in the pudding and that pudding is F-Zero. I honestly have not really played much F-Zero, so I can't comment, but if what you're saying is true it should be evident in F-Zero. Anyone with more F-Zero experience care to chime in?

My gamepad screen is broken, is there a way to buy this knowing I cant use the gamepad at all?

Do you have a functional 3DS or a usb keyboard? I'm pretty sure that as long as you don't need to use the touch keyboard (which is only needed to add funds), then you should be able to navigate the eshop entirely by the face buttons.

I'll check out the 3ds, cheers

FAST RACING NEO | OT: Mueller, pls.

I'm looking forward to this, it's been far too long since we got a good future racer.
Now all I have to do is find a way to make my home-made NeGcon adapter Wii U-compatible and I'll be laughing.

What LAN?

Wii U supports LAN via these:

That's how my console is connected to the internet.

Splatoon 2.0.0 apparently supports LAN-connected Wii Us of some kind, it's in the release notes. And Manfred said they played FRN competitions in their office, so probably that kind of LAN?

I knew about the adapter thing but I didn't know that games use it for direct connections. Huh!

But I still don't know if LAN support is available in the release version of FRN. The Nintendo description page only mention "online".

It's amazing what the indie scene has become. The 2D retro style in indie games often bothers me because it doesn't feel like I'm playing something that takes advantage of the system's capabilities. The gameplay has to be really strong for me to get past that.

This game, on the other hand, is what a retail futuristic racer would look like this generation if studios still made those. Same with '90s Arcade Racer or Yooka-Laylee.

Very talented developers. I liked Jett Rocket II and Fun! Fun! Minigolf Touch. The Art of Balance demo was also a lot of fun.
