Fat Princess |OT| Misogynistic Cake

Well, actually managed to beat gladiate with the priest and the worker tonight. Tried warrior and died at level 6. I can tell these last three are going to be pretty tough.

protip: It seems like most people think you have to press and hold circle to escort the princess. This is not the case. All you have to do is tap circle to escort, from then on, your character will auto track whomever is carrying the princess. You don't have to use the control stick unless you are going over some tricky terrain.

This also means that if you are a ranged class (ranger, mage, dark priest, bomber), you can still attack your pursuers while escorting the princess.

Is there a plan to nerf the Ice Mages? I finally got in an online game last night and even though there was only one person abusing the freeze spam it was really damn annoying. How did something like that get past beta? Not only is it dumb to not be perpetually stuck in one spot but then to reward the spammer with a stupid amount of points?

Yes, Titan Studios have told us that they're looking into AoE scoring exploits.

Although, these tweaks could take some time, as the next patch is only fixing the connection and lag issues, if I remember right.

Cool, thanks.

Are they going to increase the cooldown time of casting as well though?

There's no information yet, about how they're going to be fixing the freeze.
I guess, they could nerf the point gain, only the full charge would give 10 points.

Nothing is official yet, but we'll know soon enough.

Simple, it never occurred during the beta, thus I don't know if it was implemeted afterwards or if it was there from the beginning, but nobody noticed it.

Can we get a game going tonight? Anyone up for it?

Possibly, I still have some work to do, so maybe after a hour or so.

I'm not sure though, as I might go to sleep early today.

I would love to play the game I bought a week ago now Sony......

i was in the same boat but a few days ago it just started working (with normal servers). before that i had to make my own and only my friends list ppl could join.)

MUCH harder when in a "real" server. especially with assholes on the mic yelling at people for not doing what THEY want us to do and then blaming us for losing.

right now im just concentrating on learning the maps and getting good at being a worker, then i'll tackle some class trophies. (killing people as a villager is hard)

Is it possible for someone to rip out the sounds from the game or maybe record the voices with a sound card or something? I love the fat princess voice overs..they are so cute!:D

"Cakey please!!" and I love from the trailer part where it goes "Fat princessss!" at the end.

Sorry to make such a dump post but I need to have the voice overs for my cellphone.

I picked up this game on Tuesday, but aside from going through the SP, I really hadn't had much play time. This afternoon, I got into a lot of good games. This game has issues, but when it's working it is sooooooooo much fun.

The worker class is a lot more fun than I'd have ever imagined. Resource gathering on some maps can be way more strategic and take bigger balls than a combat role. Then, when you get the bomb upgrade...watch out! When I discovered you can charge the bombs, it became a whole new ballgame. A retreating worker can be a handful against some classes.

My favorite class now though is Priest/Dark Priest. So much fun after the upgrade. I played a series of games with some guys who were pretty good team players and communicated well (rare when you are playing with strangers) and we were just crushing outpost after outpost with a couple Priests and some fighters.

A few things NEED to be fixed:

Of course, connections/matchmaking. I didn't get in a host at all yesterday when I tried. Today, I got plenty of games, but it still took a while to get on a host.

There's a glitch with the Princess getting lost when you deliver her to your castle sometimes. This happened three times today. You could spot her on the map, inside the castle, but you couldn't find her to get her on the throne. We'd still win the game, eventually, when the clock ran out, but we could've ended the game the right way.

The ice mage spamming is silly. I don't see how this wasn't spotted in QA.

I'm having so much fun with this game though, I'm willing to put up with the patches. Hopefully, they'll come soon.

Fat Princess patch for America is now Live!

Fat Princess: Sony America Patch Live!
Posted in Uncategorized on August 7th, 2009 by exogenous –

The Sony America connection and lag patch is now live. For those of you in North America (as well the rest of the community served by Sony America), turn on you PS3’s, fire up Fat Princess and you should get the update. Europe is coming next week. As noted in the previous blog entry, Titan Studios had nothing to do with this timing. Before you skewer us, please read the previous post.
Patch Notes

Our primary focus with this patch was to improve connections and reduce lag. We also addressed the AoE scoring exploits, a few other scoring imbalances, and made minor tweaks that should reduce stalemates. Here are the details:

* The server selection heuristic has been modified so that ping time has been more heavily weighted when selecting potential matches. This will result in players being connected to games in such a way that game population and ping are more evenly weighted.
* Newly hosted servers will be more attractive to potential clients and thus fill up more quickly. The change will also better distribute connection attempts among servers and thus reduce failed attempts.
* Potential servers will be given less time to respond to ping requests. This should speed up that portion of the connection process.
* Selected servers will be given more time to establish a connection, resulting in fewer failed attempts.
* The connection code is less sensitive to packets coming back out of order. This was a cause of failed connections.
* Ice Mage and Dark Priest AoE scoring has been adjusted from 10 points to 2 points per enemy affected.
* Non-worker resource return has been reduced from 20 points to 10 points.
* Feeding the princess has been reduced from 20 points to 15 points.
* Castle door hit points have been reduced slightly from 30 to 25.
* The Princess’ calorie burn has been increased at weight stage 2, 3, and 4. Calorie burn was previously 2 per second at all stages. Stage 2 is now 4 per second, stage 3 is 8 per second, and stage 4 is 12 per second.

How To Play the Patch

Our experience using the patch is that successful connections occur more than 75% of the time on the first attempt. Selected servers are more fit, and so lag is reduced. A number of other problems attributed to lag are, as a result, also less prevalent. We expect server host migration to work more consistently.

The community will have to find a new balance in terms of host versus player distribution. Because of changes to the heuristic, there may be more servers with a moderate population of players, and fewer servers that are nearly full or nearly empty. The ideal ratio of servers to players is probably about 4 servers per 100 players. Unless you have a spectacular connection, try finding a game or jumping in first. If games are full and you’re having a hard time connecting, and you have a decent connections and a good ISP – by all means host. If your connection is moderate or poor, though, you won’t have many joiners. As with any peer to peer game – many empty games means too many hosts. Few, full games means not enough.
Future Patches & Updates

In future patches or updates, we will address other bugs and issues. Again, we wanted to get this out as fast as possible, and so changed only what we could safely and by last Monday afternoon. Down the road, we will address less common and less severe issues including: disappearing princesses, broken hat machines, migration issues, and the rank system. We may also address other features and balance issues.

Thanks for sticking with us through this crazy first week. There is more great stuff to come. Have a fantastic weekend and see you online!

- Titan Dev

Europe will be getting the patch next week, according to the blog.

Really good fix on the AoE scoring exploits, absolutely fantastic!

Good job, Titan Studios!

I don't think a studio deserves congratulations for making their multiplayer game actually playable online and balancing shit a week after launch despite having several beta iterations where people had told them the exact same shit so "absolutely fantastic" and "good job" seem ill-used.

The fact a server list lobby would solve their "there should be 4 servers per 100 players" wishes, that INGENIOUS IDEA seemingly hasn't occurred to them when its been top of peoples requests since the beta.

You certainly do have a hard-on for this game though Drame, so more power to you I guess.

chubigans

y'all should be ashamed
Downloaded the patch, got in a game and the process took half the time it usually does, all in the first try.

I give this patch the Seal of Awesome.

A week after launch for fixing server issues that would NEVER show up without the huge server load they'd get at retail. A week.

You my friend have no freaking clue about game making. None. I say this as an indie dev and as a person with common sense. Give me a break.

Fair enough, this isn't a case of Castle Crashers not getting patched for months on end, but it's still not something to be amazingly proud and positive about in regards to "great job!! amazing!!".

Maybe they just have a shit QA dep or something, I don't know. But the beta exhibited these exact same issues with a far lower server load, and it was discussed at length easy ways to fix it on the Beta forums, and only now have they been forced to act maybe because they realised the negative buzz covering their game probably wasn't a good thing. Hopefully there'll be a bigger patch later on bringing in stuff like server lists, we'll see. Will patch the game on Sunday and give it one last chance to impress before deleting it off my drive.

Good to hear.

I'm just wondering, as the Europe gets the patch next week, so for European players the AoE scoring exploits still work.
There might be interesting differences in scores between European and American Ice Mage players, I'm really fascinated to see just how big the gap will be.

Also, just how many players will move on from a mage to another class now.

I don't now if this was such a great idea, the way it was before seemed fine to me.

Also no server lists is still disappointing.

Nice, I think I'll be getting the game soon now that the patch is up! Last week I decided to get Battlefield 1943 late, instead of FP, since I was hearing about all the online difficulties in FP.

Holy shit! I'm impressed! They said it was only gonna fix connection issues.

NICE JOB, TITAN!

You guys might see me on again tonight, or tomorrow. :D

Dammit! I was getting so many great point scores using Ice Mage and freezing 3-4 people at once like 4 times in a pile of people in 30 seconds lol. There goes my easy 100pts/minute :lol

Damn. The more that i think about it, they really just fucked over the wizardry class - 2pt is a fucking joke for a max attack that hits someone. Will have to test this out later to see if it's still a useful point making class.

It's a first party title so the "shit QA dep" was Sony's own testing that they use for all their first party games.

Hope the patch fixes the issues I had connecting.

I wish console platform holders would simply stop with patch QA altogether. I never bricked/corrupted a PC by patching.

Finally picked up the game tonight. Had no trouble getting into a game and did fairly well since I seemed to be one of the few people that understood the importance of resources/feeding the princess. Really enjoying it.

Wow, the turnaround on this patch might be the fastest Sony has ever done, huh?

Titan is owned by Epic, so it isn't technically a first-party title.

While true that Titan isn't a first party developer and at it's core Fat Princess is not a first party title, it is first party published so the title was tested by the publisher which in this case.............. was first party Sony test ;)

God this game is so fun but so much LESS fun when people don't use the headset!

probably just mad because i payed 50 bucks for this headset and this is the first time ive tried to use it but still

MUCH better than fucking Castle Crashers, I'm impressed (however, these are obvious issues that should not have been here in the first place). Either way, good job on their part for getting it out so quick.

lolz @ icemages.

I was playing earlier with the new patch installed. In the middle of the game, my game reset and took me back to the ps3 xmb screen. Did I get kicked or was it a bug in the game? I was number one on my team and had a major kill streak going on, like 30+.

You can go down in rank in this game? Hence the "highest rank" section of your stats? How does that even work?

I think I read somewhere that your rank is based off of your performance in the last 10 games.

I can't join my best friends Jimbo's game when before the patch I could. :(

I'm happy to report the patch fixed my problem and I'm finally able to join online games! Before I was only able to join 1 game out of 25 tries but now everything is working fine for me. :)

is there a GAF XMB chatroom that everyone is using? i have one saved, but it's old and no one really uses it anymore. it's much easier to just hop in there and ask who is playing instead of coming in to the FP official thread.

also, @whoever-usually-organizes-these-matches:

PSN ID: autobzooty

add me so I can join up with y'all a bit easier!

this patch kicks ass. so much easier to play now. although i just had the vanishing princess glitch AGAIN. still, i'm glad they put a rush on the connection problems before i lost interest completely.
