FBI reviewing emails found on devices used by Weiner/Abedin

There would have been an issue if Clinton won them Come said there was a further investigation which he was made aware of prior to the election.

As opposed to announcing something that could end up being meaningless and letting an election be decided on it? How are people ever going to have faith in the government or the FBI if that's what ends up happening and Trump wins?

They better hope they find the elusive bombshell they couldn't find anywhere else because if the election is decided on this and they find nothing it will be a complete disaster.

I don't remember where it came from originally, but at some point it was being touted that there were 3 new e-mails, but that was very early on when no one knew what the fuck was going on.

The issue with this line of thinking is that it's, ultimately, a partisan view. The FBI should not worry about partisanship, and that's one of the main reasons this is raising so many bells.

Well, realistically, it's way too late in the game, and this will take too long, for the Presidential election to be decided on this. It's probably more effective on the congress side more than anything.

Because it'll be the Trump brigade calling the shots and Comey gets to keep his job if that doomsday scenario happens.

If anything, I wonder if this was a move to save himself from his inevitable departure.
 
Do government workers need to keep their emails saved to personal machines or something? I don't understand what it means for an email to be "on" a computer. Are these downloaded for offline viewing? Is this PC the only access point for that particular address?

Shortly before I was out of the army, the only way to access my account was through a chip card reader for my ID. If your GSA account was similar I can see how annoying that could be.

That's the biggest evidence to me that Comey's doing this with intent to influence the election, not to be transparent.

If he was really trying to be transparent, he could have at least added the fact that they were still "seeking access to the emails" and not making it sound like they were currently looking through new evidence that they found possibly incriminating.

The problem here though is your seeing it from your POV.

Hurting Hilary. Bad FBI.
Letting Hilary off. Bad FBI.

Two different groups will see from their POV. Let's cut something else as well - people are panicked because;

a) Whilst many Dems don't agree with or understand why the email story is so toxic they do know it hurts her. They don't want it in the press whatsoever. It will impact some voters; whether it impacts the electoral result is a much bigger question but I think the anti FBI stuff is in itself driven by party polotics. I mean is the suggestion he wants Trump to win?

b) The debates. Trump went in limping and came out limping. Which is saying something considering the position he's in - he should have been dead. Was a big missed oppurtunity - Clinton just seems to be struggling to sell.

If she was up against Romney rather than Trump there might be some discontent but let's be honest - this is about the possibility of Trump winning and less about Clinton not winning. Thats folks main motivation and anger and people would want (and I think sounds like expected) the FBI to be helpful in that direction.

Personally I think she'll be alright. Couple days to go (I think the attack FBI thing is weak as they are clearly hitting back - all this does is stretches out how many days this is the main story), story will move on - she'll go on the offensive against Trump and I think she'll get her voters out. But I don't think there is a evil Pro Trump cabal in the FBI.

How? With Clinton coming in, there was little doubt that she would appoint someone new to his position even before this mess happened.

With Trump, there's a pretty good chance he keeps his job. Why would he get fired if Trump wins? The Republicans might throw him a freaking party if this influences even just the down ballot votes.

Btw comey isn't interested in keeping his job - he's interested in post election consulting and board appointments.

Typically emails are stored on a server (which was since wiped clean by Clinton's aides). An email client is then used to sync with said server which downloads any new emails for the user to view. Your phone for instance does the same thing if you have an email account set up.

Except announcing you have something or nothing at all leaves us all completely empty handed. What are we supposed to infer from that? What benefit do the voters gain from this? Should we be aware that they are looking into the Clinton foundation or Trump's ties to Russia before they finish with those too?

If they conclude they find something after looking into it, you can still impeach her right then and there. If they announce it was nothing and walk away, the election doesn't get a redo.

This is known, at least that they had some information related to it. However the FBI didn't say what they had. At the time it was thought to be Manafort stuff.

Right. I assumed government officials' emails could be subpoenaed and retrieved from a server. But the language used in these articles makes it sound like client machines are the only place these emails exist.

Reid is saying FBI has "explosive information" regarding Trump/Pence 2016 Campaign's coordination with the Russian government. I think that goes beyond Manafort's past. This is huge imo.

This is false in the case that there are emails on the phone that were previously present on the server but were deleted or destroyed prior to the investigation.

He doesn't know what they have, nobody knows.

It does however put the Directors action into context. We only knew about this information through unspecified leaks, not through an official statement.

I'm pretty sure Clinton is not going to give a shit if people view this as a political move. Especially after all the shit she has been through, and what the GOP has done in the last 8 years.
 
Wow.. imagine if someone leaked that shit on Putin/Trump and it implicated his campaign having serious ties and HELP from Russia, as I said earlier lol. That's one thing which may well land him not only outside the Whitehouse, but put people in jail and make those Republicans supporting him and ignoring his Putin rhetoric look crazy.

FBI been so leaky so far, lets just keep it going, someone leak that shit.
