Saint's Row 3 most disappointing. and Sim City

SR3 was disappointing coming off of the greatness that was SR2--way too cartoony for my tastes and it dropped canon, (which I'm not sure why I care about it, but I do, so it's still a strike)--but it's still enjoyable in its own right. SRIV as well.

V though...where's Net_Wrecker? He summed up my feelings on this game perfectly a few times over. I'll see if I can track one down to repost.

IV was disappointing, but that sting has faded with time and compared to the story of V, IV's is practically The Godfather. (Also, IV gave us Lost and the Damned.)

And GTAV was still disappointing, but fun.

Fem Shep. There is no other. And V is fun sometimes, but completely unmemorable, which is an outright sin with its PS2 legacy.

MGS games control like shit

In terms of controls:

MGS2, MGS3 > GTA3-SA

MGS4 > GTAIV-V

Not even a contest. They're "complexity" (they're really not complex) offer great utility, and are perfect for the type of games they are.

If you're not gonna bother reading the fucking manual, see the basic actions option in the main menu, or are merely a simpleton than yeah, I can see how the controls suck.

I've never really cared that much about the story of the GTA games. I cared about the immersion of the complex worlds they built. GTA V's world is so incredible that I still just get on and run around to find new stuff.

i liked this a lot when it came out

if i revisited it, though, i'd probably notice all the shitty parts of the story. I already thought that the one big twist was dumb as hell and out of nowhere. and once the interrogation stuff loses its cool factor, it'd probably be a boring game

I don't think I'd ever be able to play LA Noire. The dumb fucks at Team Bondi thought it would be funny to use 90% of the cast of Mad Men. That would be in my head the entire goddamn time while playing it.

Maybe it's because I only remember the DLC ending but I felt pretty good about the ending I chose

I refused and died but thanks to our efforts a future cycle eventually killed the reapers completely

I chose that ending too. It just felt right.

Really coming around on the Indoctrination Theory lately. Makes just as much/more sense than the canon endings, feels more thematically satisfying.

Well actually no I couldn't finish AC:Revelations either but by the time I got round to the 4th Ass Creed it just felt like 1 massively long unfinish-able game.

Solid points. I also wish there were way more heists. And idk if it was just me, but this game felt even more crude and straight up mean than the other ones; like, to the point of being dull and tired rather than clever or funny. those are just issues i had though.

Mean as in everyone was so god damned evil that you couldn't care about them, their actions or the game itself because the world was nothing but a miserable ball of hopelessness and everyone deserved to die?

Or mean as in the writers leaned too hard on the idea of parody and just wrote a bunch of harsh criticisms of real world groups, then renamed all the individuals/companies/groups involved to something juvenile and called it humor?

Both are valid complaints.

The Vita dpad is godly for MK9. I actually play worse on PS3. Too bad the character models are somehow worse than Tekken 5 on PSP. Can't believe they thought that was acceptable. Still, the gameplay was silky smooth, so I can forgive that.

It would be incredibly difficult for me to make a fave five games for the generation.

I just know it would have to include Portal 2, Catherine, and Bayonetta.

....but then I think about Vanquish, and MGR, the Mass Effect series, Demon/Dark Souls, Deus Ex, Rayman Origins, NBA 2k11......


The list would go on for too long. It's been a damn good generation. Any other generation I could easily make a fave five for.

UMvC3 is my jam. i suck shit at it but it's still fun. Vanquish was a rad 5 hours.

they weren't that bad. Galaxy had WAY too much good to be ruined by purple coins.

besides, Galaxy 2 doesn't have that problem, which is why it's the superior game



also, Megaman 9 was this gen. God damn what a good game. That might be in my top 5 depending on how I'm feeling...

I also really love Zelda Twilight Princess, but it's more of a cross-gen title so I left it out. I had a lot of fun with the early parts of this generation, but the last three years have made me far more cynical of the industry's direction and turned me into more of a retro gamer than ever before. Even though there were a lot of great games this gen, the shift towards generic AAA DLC fest experiences, Nintendo's poor managing of the end of the Wii's lifespan (that has unfortunately continued into the Wii U), Sony's complete shift towards catering to western studios (the primary reason I never actually bit the bullet to get a PS3; I just use my brothers'), and the Japanese game developers' general fall from grace really soured me on it. Maybe if we had gotten new systems earlier I'd feel better about it, but as it stands I'm afraid 7th gen is my least favorite gen.
