Fellow Americans, do you realize how much people envy us?

Mindless patriotism, one way or the other, is nothing but a source of problems.

That said, I'd hate living in a country with such a gun culture, and where the things I've read over here lately about what goes on in their colleges makes me feel disgusted. Not the best country to be bisexual either.
Yeah, the guns is what really gets me. Metal detectors in schools - wtf.

sometimes America makes me wanna be a socialist

Me too D:

I don't really envy the US. I really would not want to live there - its actually way way down on my list of places to live. Still there is a lot to like in your country. A lot of Americans I've met are very nice people, but Dear God I hate working with Americans.

However as a whole you come across as arrogant and self righteous. This thread ebing a case in point, although I do get that much of the "Hoo Haa we're no.1" is tongue in cheek,

The area where America is really uncontested is movie-making.... That is the type of area where Americans can really say "you just can't compete, World"... Also, Silicon Valley.

Eh, blessing and a curse. In it's hay day it was unarguable, but between award shows, production companies that venture into many forms of media, and the amount of money that is now involved, hollywood became quite an.. interesting machine.

I of course still enjoy having my face blown off by The Avengers and you couldn't produce that anywhere else, not trying to be a hypocrite. Just think "movie-making" is too broad. I love European and Korean films and because they dont have something like Hollywood they get to green-lit much more interesting and original projects.

A lot of the stuff about freedom, democracy, multiculturalism, etc. is not unique to America. They're things that are part of the American myth, but the rest of the world goes "huh? we have that too! Why would you brag about that?"

You'd still be under the British monarchy if we didn't bring it into the modern world. Oh wait, you still are :)

As an American that is, most of the time, proud of his home, this thread is a wonderful example of stupid, arrogant, jingoist bullshit.

I want to say most Americans aren't this bad, but a lot of them are. SMH.

It's a great place to visit but I don't think I could live over there. Anyway New Zealand and Canada have the highest quality of life in the world.

I'm English BTW.

I like a lot of american culture, but I don't think I'd want to live in a country without public healthcare.

Yeah, the healthcare stuff sucks. But buying health insurance isn't the end of the world either. Sometimes I get the feeling that people from other countries think that 90% of Americans are in debt because of medical bills or something.

This gun culture stuff is blown way out of proportion. There are really very few gun nuts in the US.

No doubt about things like Avengers, and that is one of America's modern gifts to the world.

I think America probably produces a lot of those more "interesting and original projects" but, of course, they get drowned out by the blockbusters. But then again, even in Europe, Korea, etc, their local artistic fare is similarly drowned out by a lot of (mostly American) blockbusters.

I guess I mean to say that a lot of countries have interesting, quirky, artistic film production...... but Hollywood, ironic as it sounds, is one of a kind!

That's the problem. Too many misconceptions here at work. Yes, it'd be great to have healthcare, but really, like you said, it's not the end of the world.

No the rest of the Western world thinks that anyone being in debt because of medical bills is appalling. That's the difference.

There's nothing I envy about America, I've lived there and as much as I enjoyed it and with the risk of sounding a bit douchey, America has nothing on Sweden when it comes to things that matter in life.

With that said, I'm sure there's a plethora of nations where the nationals would look at America and see a better life. No doubt about that. I'm just lucky enough to live in Sweden.

Erm, why should we? We don't have to proove anything to anybody, so...
Old world ftw!

No bashing here, I just think this is a funny attitude to have.
Some of the passages in the OP are more than ridiculous. Illusions of grandeur much?

Britain and its colonies were already on the road to constitutional monarchy long before the American Revolution. See the Glorious Revolution.

From our perspective, the American colonies were the ones that thought they had to violently break all ties to the monarchy to be free, while we just asked for freedom and got it without all the rebellious fuss!

Yeah, I don't really get why the Americans think that they did the rest of the Empire a favour. The Empire only got larger after the Americans broke away, and 150 years later control was handed over to the colonies without them fighting for it.

Isn't Sweden as cold as fuck? No thank you.

Maybe people in the 3rd world countries envy the Americans.
For the rest of us, not so much. Not that the US is a bad country but thinking that the whole world envies you, what kind of mentality is that....

I'm an expert

Formerly worldrevolution. The only reason I am nice to anyone else is to avoid being banned.
As someone who left the states, lived in a country with public healthcare for almost a decade and just came back to the states.. it is very eye opening to see (remember) how terrible the citizens of this country are treated by government/corporations. Still..it's America. There's just no place like it at all. I wouldn't necessarily say I'm exuberantly happy or proud to be an American, but being one does give you a sort of world view that I think many in other countries don't get to experience and do indeed envy.

What I think a lot of people, and even Americans including myself, forget is that America is a huge country with so many different people, thoughts, lifestyles that aren't rooted in any one central culture or custom. You simply can't lump Americans in one giant group of anything because there's always an equally large amount of people who oppose or are outside the same thing. So many people outside of America assume such simple things about Americans like the food we eat or opinions we have. My neighbors are Indian, Spanish, and Italian. I guarantee they all eat a different thing than each other every night of the week. There is no "American culture" of everyone eating hamburgers and french fries outside of a carnival or event perhaps. While in the country I lived I know for a fact that the majority of people (including my family) were eating a bowl of rice with their meals because that is their culture.

Not to mention the "average American", meaning John Smith the white guy whose immigrant parents came over here 3 generations ago, is now 100% the minority in America. The only real place those types are left are in government and they're aging and will soon be gone. I expect America to be a completely different country in the next 50 years, for better or worse.

I've always suspected that Korey isn't really an American.

This thread does nothing to refute my theory.

Either way it's 100% bullshit, he means not one word of what he says in these threads / topics, as I found out from some folk that know.

Why does he insist on starting trash threads like this? boredom.

Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Germany, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Turkey are the countries that do not even envy the US in the slightest. Do not even get me started on Russia, Asia and Australia.

Oh, and there is this country that is even bigger then the US, does everything better and is sitting right on top of them. Canada.

Yeah, when the US has a healthy does of socialism to go with all the cars and guns, then I'll be jealous. Until then it is still where I was born, and where I will move back to for a bit one day, but it is far from the best thing going.

2 weeks holidays, no public healthcare. lol no.

A great country to visit I suppose, and I accept the cultural contribution and lead that the US has, but it's not a country for us Europeans to live in. Germany & UK > US
