FF3 DS in 2006 / FF 5 / FF 6 announced

have to say i'm disappointed that ff3's the only one getting deluxe ds treatment. is that one a big leap from the first 2? because, like those dragon warrior games on GBC, i couldn't see playing those with much enthusiasm, even if the graphics were amazing.

anyway, FF6GBAWOO!!1

exactly my point. i was talking about the dw1&2 game, 3 was actually a big leap from those. can i expect that from ff3 though?

T_T

oh well, better than nuthin.

Why are you getting excited? The excellent soundtrack was one of FFVI's strongest points. It'll get slaughtered here.

I'd rather it be on DS or PSP personally.

I know...I fear for FF4 and FF6. :\

So is Square is remaking Final Fantasy VI with new 3d graphics for GBA or just porting it?
Considering how much of a beast the GBA is with 3D graphics, they'll probably remake it with 3D graphics.

those screens on page 2 of FFIII looked pretty awesome to me

BTW R.I.P. PSP in Japan, Nintendo just bitch slapped Sony today!

I thought FFIII was being released for DS, not GBA?

DQIII rapes FFIII with a hairy donkey buttplug. And FFIII likes it.

Not that I don't want FFIII. Just sayin' is all.

Well yes, that's true, but DQIII also rapes every japanese console RPG in existence. :P
I'd love to see it remade for the DS or PSP but they've already remade it twice, don't know if they will again...

Well they've remade DQ1 and 2 anywhere between 2 and 4 times already, depending on what you count.

Pellham and I > Dragona and jarrod, though.

I want the SNES DQIII Remake on the DS. It's so pretty.

edit:

Jarrod doesn't like either series though. He's an Advance Wars/Sega fan :P

I swear he's been around in one of the DQIII love threads... And he has to love Fire Emblem... Maybe I was assuming, we always have extremely similar tastes in the portable threads.

It's more then a Bit my friend. Square goes for the system with units or the cutting edge. DS has the units, and cutting edge is there in gameplay mechanics.

I think production costs also go a long way. FFIII is probably going to be a lot lot lot cheaper to produce than any of SE's PSP games.

Not that it matters. After all, PS3 is going to be getting FF13 and beyond exclusive.

Cute. Pellham's agreeing with me though.

But whenever someone mentions DQ and FF in the same thread, you know, comparisons... As much as I like FFIII... DQ, raping, all that jazz. You know, the works.

Now it'd be tough if we brought in Fire Emblem too. But thankfully, Fire Emblem is an SRPG, so we're still A-OK for now.

I wouldn't worry about FFIV's soundtrack. From what we've seen, there isn't a big upgrade in graphics, so there will probably be plenty of cpu cycles to devote to the sound. FFVI is a bit more graphically demanding though, but consider that the GBA is much faster then the SNES cpu-wise.

No dedicated sound chip for the GBA still sucks ass though :(

I'm personally not going to care about the sound issue given that my hearing problems prevent me from distinguishing the difference between a system with a sound chip and one without. :P

No no no. 8BIT FUCKING OUTPUT WHEN THE SYSTEM MIXES INTERNALLY AT 16BIT sucks ass. :|

Would seem like it'd be a halfway point between the Wonderswan Color version's music and the more powerful system like with FF1 and 2, except it may be more than half with these games due to the more powerful system being an SNES instead of a PS1.

?

Explain please.

Well it's simple. Square cannot make a new CT game because Enix owns the rights. If Square made a new CT then they would get into a major conflict with Enix and would have to pay them high royalty fees to license the CT name and rights.

ShNuff and Tetsuoxb were two of the programmers who worked on the orginal CT, so they would be the ones you should ask for a more detailed explainition. Let me know if you have anymore questions....

Psst.... Square and Enix merged. They're one company now.

I've never played a DQ. What should I start with?

Start with either III or IV. Those are my favourite. And I am a long time fan of the series, someone that would buy a console just for this game alone.

Now Gaimeguy ruined it. Boooooooo

Yeah, try the GBC 3 if you are gonna go into DQ.

mutsu's av would be better if it were red. like this:

square ENIX is making Mario Basketball for the DS?

Ok. The world is imploding.

(But in a good way.)

I really want to just plaster the message "SQUARE ENIX IS DEVELOPING A NEW MARIO GAME" all over the internet... then put in little pictures of the basketball game. Just because of those "SUPER MARIO RPG IS BETTER THAN PAPER MARIO" zealots.
I believe so. (so even if it's bad people on GAF can't complaint)

good god i hope they don't make another SMRPG. That was a pretty shitty excuse of an RPG.
if they do make an SMRPG, it better have absolutely nothing in common with the original game. make it look like Oblivion except with Mario characters.

Slaughtered? Nah, just downgraded.

The strongest point about FFVI is how fucking awesome it is. Why not get excited because the music quality won't be as good?

How far did you get into FF6? I sure as fuck know that the
opera part
will be ruined. Sound does make a difference if you like the awesome SNES sound. Donkey Kong Country was unplayable to me because the sound was so off.

I still stand by my idea that it should be on the DS or PSP. Oh well.

FFV's sound seems acceptable for the GBA sound.

It's really hard to say. AAA titles for GBA have comparable sound to AAA titles on the SNES. GBA also has a stronger processor, which can probably substitute for the lack of a soundchip. Especially when it comes to porting SNES games which were designed to run on a slower CPU.

Don't forget that FF VI was developed for SuperFami @ 16bit and 3.6 mhz. The GBA ARM is 32-bit @16 mhz. The GBA games that run into trouble with sound are original titles that tap out the CPU and have nothing left for sound.
