Escape from NY was great, Escape from LA was pretty bad though.

And you can't tell me anything in T2 is better than anything in Big Trouble in Little China. I refuse to believe that's a serious statement.

Of those I fuck with Jurassic Park and Die Hard a fair bit. I'm fine with Star Wars and Fury Road and I'm okay with one of the Indiana Jones movies ( think it was raiders?). The rest definitely aren't my thing.
T2 is so different from BTiLC, c'mon

I know they're super different, but that was just in response to the equally odd comparison of "Nothing he's got is as memorable as stuff like the Terminator 2 truck chase scene or even the final battle in Avatar. "

I'd definitely argue that the fight where the three storms show up definitely qualifies.

I thought Starcraft was ripping off Warhammer 40k.

T2 and T1 (and maybe True Lies) are all fine to good. You gonna sit here and tell me Aliens or The Abyss or Titanic or Avatar were good though? When the god awful far outweighs the good, it's hard to call them anything positive.

can't find the other one on youtube though
Wow, that is straight up neglect. You can tell the kid deals with this regularly, too.

Also, I don't get how someone can like T1/2, but not Aliens. Both fantastic movies. I even like Aliens better.

KOK is great at that. It shows everyone involved as both dopes and heroes/villains. It's great!

There's only one hero in that movie. He wears an american flag tie and needs a haircut

The worst action movie sequels (to amazing action movies) of all time:

Alien 3

Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome

Highlander 2

Also John Carpenter's movies are 2000 times more memorable than James Cameron's. Plus Carpenter made godlike horror movies so.

alien resurrection is much, much, much worse than A3

highlander 2 is lol

Those first two don't deserve to be in the same category of Highlander 2. That's a straight 1/10 movie right there, like absolutely zero merits.

actually I'm curious what fgcgaf's top 10 movies of the year would be. I was thinking about it right now and this is my tentative list but there's a good chance I'm forgetting things that came out this year.

1. the assassin
2. carol
3. green room
4. mountains may depart
5. the witch
6. right now, wrong then
7. cemetery of splendour
8. mistress america
9. room
10. tangerine

i might see the assassin tonight actually

best movie. If you're familiar with any of Hou's work you'll know to be ready for a slower paced film that's dripping in atmosphere. I know some people expected a typical wuxia flick and left disappointed, but otherwise you're about to see probably the most beautiful movie ever made.

Haven't seen the Revenant or The Witch yet, those may make it in.

You mean John Carpenter the guy who made Escape from New York? I like that movie but come on now his movies got nothing on James Cameron's eye for action direction. Nothing he's got is as memorable as stuff like the Terminator 2 truck chase scene or even the final battle in Avatar.

When I mean those types of movies I am talking about stuff like Jurassic Park, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Die Hard or more recent stuff like Mad Max Fury Road or Casino Royale. That's what I mean by blockbuster action movies.

On the other end of the scale of that we have crap like the Transformers movies or Spider Man 3/Amazing Spider Man 2.
I don't remember any Cameron movies except the beginning of Terminator since I saw some of it on tv this year but The Thing is probably better than any of them.

this comparison really bothers me, it's like saying Manhattan is better than Dead Alive

Morris

Disco Devil
Our Little Sister
The Assasin
Mad Max
Son Of Saul
Victoria
The Lobster

I actually have a lot of catching up to do. Haven't even seen Star Wars. Gonna try to see Carol sometime this week.

what didnt you like about it?

The overall plot? I would have liked something more in depth, a deeper exploration of the concepts.

I felt rather unsatisfied after I finished watching it so I didn't think about it too much, but overall it felt kind of superficial. I appreciate that it was a clever idea that demonstrating the need for self preservation is a good indicator that something might be alive. So the build up to that reveal was somewhat worthwhile but the overall conclusion was lacking.

Kinda wish some one convinced me to play through say Soma instead. After listening to the giant bombcast game of the year deliberations it sounds like a much more engaging and imaginative sci fi piece.

It's just another creator fearful of his creation is destroyed by it.

Was it Frankenstein that drove this fear into everyone's collective psyche? Or was it something else? Whichever movie or story it was, I didn't see it.

i dont really think ex machina is about oscar isaac's character getting destroyed by his creations.
