i came in here because i think im having an aneurysm from learning that pre-release sfxt builds before pandora, gems, crossover and whatnot was literally the game people wanted
faster than sf4 walkspeeds and dashes, real as fuck footsies that lead into high damage, good throws- i'm reading this from multiple sources and i can't deal with it

seeing sf5 going down the same path has convinced me:
someone is fucking games up on purpose at capcom and he has to be stopped

Jabxtimeout wont happen in sfv.

As of now Battletoads is a better fighting game than Street Fighter 5 so whether it's Pokken or Driveclub @Evo doesn't really matter.

Me neither. It's funny because the line up is almost identical to last year's and yet people are still salt. I guess it's not evo without hype elena mirror matches Kappa

Don't really understand this sentiment. CPT only had 1 Elena in the whole tournament IIRC. IMO SFIV should have been there but it's not so fuck it.

So one of my friends is already making preparations for a room for EVO. Q, you of course are more than welcome to room with me again (my friend is telling me he's getting a suite, but he's also notoriously bad at planning, so *shrug*). But if you don't want to on account of me snoring, then that's also fine.

Either way, my EVO plans are underway.

ProfessorBeef (and all other EVO vetrans), this is going to be my first year heading to EVO and it looks like I got a hell of a strange year to do it. What general plan is everyone else thinking of doing when it comes to hotel choice?
  • Westgate the whole time and rely on whatever transportation EVO sets up?
  • Westgate 2 nights (fri,sat), Mandalay 1 night (sun)?
  • Getting a more central hotel and taking the tram/cabs?
I've had a ton of fun lurking these threads (and trying to learn to play/being too ass to contribute) so realistically I'm just hoping to book the right hotel to meet some of y'all out there at some point. I've got a ton of other questions but I assume 1) it's probably way too early to ask em, and 2) so much is new this year no one will know the answers.

The venue situation seems a bit experimental. Things will probably go okay but I really don't want travel between the venue/hotel everyday. Last year was my first time at Evo and it's a lot more convenient to have the venue inside the same hotel (obviously). I wanted to either do a trip to Japan or Evo this year (or both) but I think I'd rather see how this years event plays out then maybe go next year.

With the whole Ultra situation, before December I wanted it in, but after Capcom Cup I did see it as a send off. I've barely played the game in the last few months tbh. I just hope SFV ends up being a good game/successor.

Edit: Also, I don't think that Kbrad tweet was serious lol, yes he is probably salty his game isn't there but calling people Pokemon noobs seems to be more playful than salty tbh

I stayed across the street from the venue in 2012 and even that was enough to really dampen my experience, combined with just how big of a venue that Caesar's was. So much time wasted walking around.

It's actually the main reason why I've never gone back to Evo. Twice the price for half the experience I'm looking for in a tournament. I spent less time actually playing games at Evo than in any other major I had been to.

With all the extra space now, though, at least BYOC/casuals should be more plentiful.

This is what we're in for this year for Sunday finals.

I'm just disappointed because I did want to go to evo again. The venue change looks like itll be a pain in the ass but Id get past it. Either way in the lead up to the reveal I was pretty sure there wouldn't be enough games for me so I cant actually be sad about it. Still hoping for CEO and definitely will be going to CEOtaku. I also have winter brawl in philly next month.

If I had any salt it would really just be pokken because of how bad that game is

I think I'm gonna do CEO this year. I had a good streak at EVO but the hotel/venue situation really kills it. It's funny, up until that was announced I was convinced to just say fuck my earlier plans and go instead.

CEO should be fun though. I've got some friends in FL, one of which is having a bachelor party that weekend. So I'll have to see how time off from work and such works out.

Yea CEO sounds like it'll be a better experience for myself this year. I probably won't end up going, but if I had to choose right now it'd be CEO over Evo.

I'm thinking of running with your second option. I don't want to have to schlep back to the Westgate after the Sunday finals. Might even look into staying at the Luxor or another close hotel on Sunday for cheap.

Also, I'm thinking of getting into Vegas a little earlier in the week so the girlfriend and I can get up to Red Rock. I've always wanted to do it and missed it last year after being constrained with time.

I stayed a week last year. I had free room though staying with a friend. Rented a car which kindve offset it but wasnt too bad. I had friends fly in for a vegas vacation of their own, so I was hanging out with the constantly.

I think thats another good reason for me to skip with only one game to play, vegas isnt as fun without friends.

I'm in the UK but really wanted to try and attend a US tournament this year. Wondering how much a trip to CEO will set me back because I think that'd be a lot more fun than Evo. Have a feeling the cost might scare me away though :(

At least I'll always have Hypespotting.

As someone who still hasn't been yet the venue situation seems complicated from afar. I get why people are upset it's not in the actual hotel anymore for a variety of reasons, but at the same time Evo is getting bigger and bigger every year, that was just not going to continue to be an option realistically. This was going to happen at some point, although it is weird/unfortunate that the Sunday venue isn't in immediate proximity to the Sat/Sun one.

I feel like I'm getting totally different information from people regarding venue locations and travel and how much of a pain in the ass things actually are though. Even if you don't want to stay at the Westgate next door to the Sat/Sun convention center people are saying there's a tram that runs all the way from the MGM to the convention center with an all day pass being $12 so you can stay anywhere on the strip and just take that, and on Sunday the last tram stop is within walking distance of the Mandalay. Is this not true, or are the "walking" distances pretty long or? Honestly just curious.

Edti: Oh man looked around online at some various boards/twitters, holy goddamn the salt is real at no USF + Pokken and 2 Smash games being included.

CEO and CEO-taku are pretty much the tournaments I'm after as well. More variety and a fun aesthetic all around.

i hope sonicfox will transition to sfv well enough to compete at the highest level

Gonna enter MKX, Pokken, AND SFV for Evo this year. ANd if I get tekken 7 in my hands, That too!
@JWonggg SHOW ME THE WAYS OF POKKEN/SFV

I am fine with the roster of games myself. Honestly it's exactly what I expected except for Pokken being a main game.

The hotel situation however...yeah that's gonna be a pain and does genuinely make me less excited in the case I do get to go again this year

They are

I'm thinking the MGM Grand might be the optimal place to stay for Evo this year. It's the closest hotel to the Mandalay Bay that's also on the monorail line. Additionally, it's a legit hotel with legit rooms (unlike Westgate) but it's not overly expensive, iirc.

For a cheaper option between LVCC and Mandalay, maybe The LINQ (formerly The Quad, formerly Imperial Palace) might be a good choice? It's on the monorail and I think only one stop south of LVCC. Also Hash House A-Go-Go is in the building.

Honestly, I am psyched. I think I am going to try very hard to go back. I went in 2012 and it was fine. 645 you gotta come :). Your hotel was hilarious in 2012 admittedly.

As for the venue situation.. people are lazy, it will be fine. Taxis are plentiful as well and with the BYOC area and standard hotel rooms with setups..?

It will be fine.

Saw the Evo list yesterday and I like the lineup. Glad to see Marvel's still in it.

This so much. This is starting to get bigger and bigger. I've been saying that they should move to a CC although having the finals in a different venue is kind of a hassle though. I like that EVO's in an convention this year though.

If I was going I'd do Westgate the whole time and just buy a monorail pass. It's almost the cheapest casino I've stayed at in Vegas and it'll do it's job well enough, plus it's one monorail stop away from LVCC where all the action will be. For getting to finals I'd just take the monorail to the end of the line and catch an Uber from there to Mandalay Bay.

Moving all your stuff around, checking out of a hotel, and then checking back into another hotel is probably more trouble than it is worth when you can just take Uber/Monorail back and forth once on Sunday.

Also for those asking, I wouldn't try to walk to Mandalay Bay from the end of the monorail line. That'd be real rough, especially in 100+ degree heat.

I hope SonicFox transitions and gets utterly destroyed.

Hopefully stupid ass HBO actually does the Ironborn justice this season.

faster than sf4 walkspeeds and dashes, real as fuck footsies that lead into high damage, good throws- i'm reading this from multiple sources and i can't deal with it

seeing sf5 going down the same path has convinced me:

I have a house 40 mins away from CEO but always miss it. >_>

I think some of the people hoping to see hi get bopped are partially on the point to spite the people who think haviung him alone would put Americans over the top. You must remember Asia has many Sonic Foxes. :p

Vanilla SFxT had the footsies into high damage. It's just no one knew big combos and it was super easy and familiar from SF4 to bully with with jabs. For example, most of the high damage Law/Kuma combos from 2013 work in Vanilla too, lol

All this sonic fox talk is reminding me about how people wouldn't shut up about justin wong's elena for capcom cup.

Be honest, this isn't about sonic fox. You just want USA to win

Notworksafe, is the end of the monorail inside MGM or outside? If it's inside the only time outside in Vegas is crossing the bridge/street because Excalibur, Luxor,, Mandalay all connect if i'm correct. I hardly venture into the strip anymore.
