It feels weird for me going to a footsie base characters in sf5 from using C. Viper in sf4. Everything feels so slow and lacks mobility. I'm so used to jumping around and superjumping all over the place.

I'm going to say, although it's beating a dead horse: AAing.

Trial by fire work but what really helps and has helped me in the past two weeks of grinding SF is to always try to AA any time someone tries to jump in. I went from never AAing because I was caught off guard to a match being decided last night that was down to 5% health between the two of us. They tried to jump in once, I AA'd. I created space to tempt them again and work to get me, and they jumped in again. AA'd. I won the fight.

Try to AA every jump in. You won't be able to do so but trying will get you in the habit of AAing more consistently.

I'm not where I should be and I sometimes fuck up and forget but overall my AAing is better than a few weeks ago.

You'll keep getting better at it. Just make sure to practice AAing with different buttons at different spacing. Once you get that down, it'll get a bit more natural. As Karin I'll have different ranges where I get ready for st.HP, cr.HP, jump back jab, jump back fierce, and QCB+PP

Just make sure to never fall into the trap on standing at the range where you expect a jump in and just stay there. Some people have that issue and suddenly they'll find their opponent already invading their space.

Keep telling myself that I will try another character and then end up going right back to Mika in a couple of min.

Got used to the arcade stick a lot faster than I thought I would. At first my right hand was full of fuck (because I use it for directions when playing on keyboard) but now it seems to be okay. Motions are easy.

A lot of complaints about SFV but I'm having a blast. Don't care about rank, colors, FM or LP, story etc. and am just enjoying casual matches and training a ton. Wish I could turn off LP, rank etc. altogether and not see them at all.

Even the heavy one? I know that one has slower startup, but if it is 0, I might try something after blocking it, though I think it might push me back far enough for a jab to miss. Need to check it out when I get a chance later today.

Stomps are -4, -2, 0, -2 normally. In V trigger the normal ones get one frame better as far as I know, so not advantage unless you eat HK.

Practicing b+HK on Chun is good practice too because you need a deeeeep jump in for it to connect a lot of times, and practicing deep jump ins creates really good muscle memory and reflex to AA-ing in general.

What are people's thoughts on Fang? I'm kinda interested in playing him but given how aggressive this game is, I don't think he can do too well.

"I have no idea how to fight this character" are my thoughts on Fang.

Weird to play, weird to fight.

He's got crazy combos. You should look into his recent tech. He can be a beast if he wants.

I think he's pretty scary and annoying to deal with at the moment. It's a bit hard standing at a range and going for a whiff punish for me. Yet I don't want to stand too far so he doesn't get out projectiles in time. It's partially due to MU inexperience, but I really do think he'll turn out rather strong. Especially since he's the one with the least tech discovered so far.

Fighting with my friend's Fang, I do feel comfortable fighting him as Sim, Nash, and Cammy though. We'll see how it all pans out I guess.

He's okay. His neutral is good and he has solid buttons, can stack on a lot of damage out of neutral but I haven't seen high combo damage or anything. He can be very aggressive btw, for example he can use the EX slide to force a situation if somebody blocks a fireball in neutral.

I don't get the "this game is aggressive" thing though. Because the game is aggressive you can't win out of neutral or something? There's some p safe neutral in this game sometimes lol

Edit: Protip vs Fang, you can trade with him in neutral pretty often which is worth it a decent amount of the time.

I remember someone saying they bought a TES+ off MCZ's site the other day before SFV came out and got it in just a few days, but I don't see an option for that. When I go to TES+ section it only has a pre-order button and it takes me to Amazon.

Narrative is changing from "wow this game sucks for zoners" to Gief being the worst character in the game and people dropping Mika cause they can't deal with zoning. lol

Tbf people knew Gief was bad and it has less to do with zoning and more to him just being bad. Also some of us never said the game would suck for zoners, I even said they'd just play different ranges or not all in on it :<

That's strange. I'm able to add the TES+ to the cart.

You have to go all the way through checkout before it will tell you it's out of stock on the MCZ site. At least it's done that to me before.

DOA to host an another tournament series. Other big thing is that NEC 16 is already confirmed to be at the same casino hotel that they relocated last year due to initially having the same date as Capcom Cup.

I'm surprised this year's Battle Royal didn't list EVO as an event like they did last year, albetit it was a side tourney.

All the Big E events though culminating at NEC, good shit.

well finally deciding to commit to a fighting game instead of being a stream monster and starting with Ryu. Few questions:

Is there a good guide/video on how to do combos on a pad? I'm having trouble with the links off of St. MP, which seems to be his most important button

Is Parry viable? It seems like as the game gets figured out there will be moves out there that Ryu is better off parrying during a block string.

"Hey let's play this Rainbow Mika that knew her stuff on launch day for Battle Lounge sets!"

Turns out she's rank 90 by now and tears me apart for every single mistake, big or small.

Parry has a lot of start up and recovery. It's best used to call out medium/heavy attacks on the ground, but trying it in blockstrings is high risk because of that start up and recovery. It's a thing you can use but don't think it's 3S or something.

Pad, stick, doesn't matter for doing links. Links are all timing, so learn the timing to link out of MP since it's pretty important, yeah.

I see that's nice to know. Are you guys getting this information off the app? Is it worth it to get it that comes with the guide or is there a free version that is available?

He's a real pain for Gief to fight, but not as hard as I thought he would be. You rush him down and his AA space is more limited than it appears
