Fighting Games Weekly | Feb 23 - Mar 1 | Radio Bryheem Presents: Kosmos

How does teams work in SF? Is there an actual mode or is it just taking turns?

Team tournaments are all about taking turns in sf, but there are several ways of doing it.

1A vs 2A
1A wins
1A vs 2B
1A wins
Team 2 is eliminated by ocv so the other member of Team 1 didn't have to play.

1A vs 2A
1A wins
1B vs 2B
2B wins
Winners 1A vs 2B play each other
1A wins so team 1 wins because they won twice

Basically one format requires all team members to play and the other format allows for 1 player to run through an entire team by himself. The first format is usually used in anything bigger than 2v2 tournaments as it takes less time to run.

I think Smash 4 will be 3rd, but I also think that Apex isn't necessarily representative of Evo numbers.

I hope the actual stream schedule goes:

Xrd
Marvel
Smash 4
SFIV

I think Nintendo will be unhappy if Melee gets the spotlight.

They seemed fine with Apex doing Melee last. Unless I'm mistaken and they didn't actually do that.

Dude, the Azusa 13 still exist.

What are we, anime? Do I still have to form a group of strong warriors to combat the Azusa 13?

I'm booked for Final Round. First time heading east, lol.

If you don't mind saying or PM'ing me, how much was the entire thing for you? Of course its gonna be cheaper for me since I live closer state wise to Chicago than you (is FR in Chicago?).

Bum stream that Marvel goodness: http://www.twitch.tv/bum1six3

Damn, once I get my driver's license, I'm heading down there weekly!

Whata good to eat in the ATL? Im probably going to Final Round as well.

Why is everything so expensive to go to Atlanta?

Edit:

Its from NY. I either convince a friend to drive for 13 hours (which I know he isn't going to do) or pay flight tickets that are going for ~300 bucks. Wish I had a credit card right now to use.

I might've asked this like yesterday but I can't find the post. How come nobody besides Skullgirls wants to hand draw sprites? Is it a time thing?

I thought I did, but you're not on my steam friends list. I definitely remember you getting hit by Vega's super once or twice.

Its really expensive from what I've seen personally after being involved in making games. The hours, the detail, the manpower. Its almost ridiculous but that may not be the reason, maybe its a whole new generation that doesn't want 2-D sprites.

What do you do, BakedYams?

Extremely time consuming with very little upside. Models are more adaptable and there are more people in general that know how to work in 3d so the pipeline is easier to assemble

No, it's just cheap and it reflects that. You get a full breakfast for under 10 bucks but I mean it's a 10 dollar breakfast. The thing about Waffle House is you always know what you'll get, it'll always be cheap, and it will always be open.

10 bucks for a breakfast at a sit-down restaurant isn't too shabby. I've seen very good breakfast places for that much or maybe a few bucks more. If it's just low quality food, then oh well, lol

750 or so including hotel and flight? I'm getting in Friday morning and leaving in the afternoon Sunday so I only miss one day of work overall. So I'm only staying 2 nights. I could have reduced cost too by staying at the Motel 6 down the road, lol. It's a walking distance, lol

Could've gotten cheaper flights too with connecting flights and layovers.

I can't wait until I get a full time job. Wouldn't have to worry about spending a grand for a weekend if I save it wisely throughout the months.

Thou art waiting GB. I have a bunch of mods I want to showcase. Stream is up.

Sprites and hand drawn are different things.
Yatagarasu uses sprites, Skullgirls is hand drawn 2D but rendered as 3D models (which let's them use real time lighting).
If you're doing sprites, you're suffering for the art and look. It's not easy, it's time consuming, the skillset is scarce nowadays, the public are large views it as dated.

Yeah I meant hand drawn. I thought they were interchangeable. I know bitmap sprites are a huge timesink and wouldn't allow dlc skins.

Nothing really big, I'm just a programmer/designer for a two man indie group. The other person is also the artist/designer. We haven't trademarked anything, we're just two proteges from a professor at our game center. The reason why I say expensive is cause the cost of doing sprite work flies around all the time and varies with how much work the person has to do and its nuts how much it is to get people to do sprite work lol. You'd think it would be a lot cheaper, but once you see sprite sheets for a highly detailed game with a company that hired a freelance artist, you understand why.

Hit me up if you want some free music compositions for a game. Ive always wanted to try it. I'm also a professional programmer so there's that.

Remember, it'll be on PS4 this year and it's aging. I can't see both factors leading to surpassing or matching last years attendance.

It was aging last year too and this year has a much bigger prize pool than last year's which will help with the hype behind it. Not to mention that it already surpassed 1000 players even though it's only February. It will top last year's. I can see Melee having 1300-1600 considering that about 1000 players was their biggest tournament ever.

Yeah there's an offline lan mode though both Xboxes have to be licensed (at least when I tried it, though that was wireless lan so maybe there's a wired way that doesn't require it)
1) Purchase and download the game on your main Xbox.
2) Log into your friend's Xbox who wants to do system link with you. Download the game on that system via your purchase history list.
3) Start the game on your friend's Xbox; start a system link game and sit on that menu.
4) Unplug this Xbox's ethernet from your router/modem and connect the two Xboxes directly to each other instead.
5) Load the game on your first Xbox and go to system link, then start playing.

The prize pool isn't attracting pot monsters that know they don't stand a chance. If anything the prize attracting killer talent will discourage those pot monsters.

USF4 1st year was last year. People are definitely moving away from it.

Melee reached their cap several days before registration ended. If APEX allowed it to get going, Melee could have finished above 1200. With the fact that Melee already got to 1000 with months to go, I truly think Melee will get near 2000.

The game we're working on is already full with positions and its really a passion project with none of us making money at the moment and just using our spare time lol. I'll definitely remember this moment in case I'm looking for more people in the future!

The prize pool only brings more hype and attention which will bring in more players regardless. Not because they have a chance of winning, but because the bigger players will bring in more attention to it. Evo is increasing in popularity every year.

SF4 specifically had about 1600 players in 2013 and it went up to about 1950 in 2014. The game was another year older and Capcom gave a $10k bonus to the prize pool. Going by your logic, it should have decreased last year because it was now the 6th evo that featured SF4, but it didn't.

I don't see what's suddenly changed that will make SF4 lose 300 players. If anything, the hype behind the capcom cup prize money has increased hype and attention towards the tournament scene.

I'm only doubting them doubling their evo player base. Going from 1k to 2k is too big of a leap. I think 1300-1600 sounds right.

Viewers will increase no doubt.

More Johnny Donuts aren't going to enter this year. It's a year old, that's a lot of time in videogames, they're looking for something else, waiting on SF5. Evo moved it to PS4, they're not getting a stick or PS4 pad or looking for adapters to use their 360 pads/sticks. They see this Capcom Cup money spectacle, the killers are coming, every pool is a pool of death.

I'll concede I might be wrong about it dropping to 1600 but I doubt it'll be more than last year or equal to last year.

NO. Doing that that for the Pac Man stage was enough!

Can this be done with Turbo?

Screw you Smedwicks >:[

I'm switching majors next quarter, so once I figure out how my new course load/curriculum will be and some other stuff, I'll see about going.

Definitely want to start going if they keep doing Smash Sundays though!

basically all you have to do is occasionally press start (or is it A? it doesn't really matter) whenever home-run contest or the like shows up, everything else is automated

so you can't actually leave for several hours, but you're free to do anything else
you could play another fighting game while grinding customs in Smash 4
