Do you guys think Chris G leaving NY is going to hurt Next Level? Or at least hurt Marvel's competitiveness at Next Level?

i think more people might show up now that chris isn't there. although it might end up hurting those players in the long run if somebody doesn't pick up morridoom and keep practicing against it.

I think the problem with this is the same problem that stuff like this has in shooters; it takes away from the main objective of the game.

One of the most annoying things about COD now is the amount of players that don't play the game and just farm points to unlock weapons. I remember in one iteration people would just go for kills and not die instead of playing the actual mode, even if it resulted in a loss, because they would gain more EXP from playing that way than actually playing the game.

I don't think fighting games need those distractions from the core game honestly. I'm sure something can be done, but I don't thin progress bars are that something

The core objective in a fighting game is to fight and win; thinking about your matches and improving your skills are great aspects of it, but as I've been told time and time again, it's completely secondary for most people. So with this in mind, there's pretty much only two ways to farm in a fighting game:

- Leaving the controller behind to go make a sandwich, and
- Going through the motions to get those numbers up

People do both of those things already in current gen games. Hell, people do those things on GGPO and Supercade, and you can barely keep track of anything on those clients! And as far as I'm concerned, the type of person who grinds out matches for Breakers Revenge replays is too far gone to play attentively anyway, so there's no point in worrying about them. I guess it could increase the number of people who do that, but that seems like a stretch to me, especially since the player's W/L ratio wouldn't be a factor; W/L is usually the thing that gets people unhinged in the first place, so knocking it down a notch or two in terms of importance seems like a net improvement to me.

I know it's still awhile away, but is anyone here planning to go to winter brawl next month? It's going to finally be my first tournament so I'm pretty excited for it.

Meanwhile Thor is the best modern Superman movie. What the Hell is happening to the world.
I mean, maybe, but the new Thor's DBZ action kinda sucked.

DC has no idea how to handle it's properties, especially after the Dark Knight trilogy. They strive for a cookie cutter ideal while Marvel tries to proliferate whatever the essence of a character/story is like described in the article, and worry about the rest later.

big dumb idealistic rant of mine crossposted from the "what genre makes you rage" thread
feel free to tell me i should give up the dream because it will never happen and that you don't want it to happen because you don't care about online players experiences and are afraid this would negatively impact the live tournaments you don't go to

none of this matters

People's frustration with fighting games has nothing to do with wins and losses. Most people are generally ok with losing in video games. They tend to fall back onto the "i have a life" excuse or "i just play for fun"

The frustration with fighting games comes from them not knowing anything about them, and the games doing a poor job at teaching you how to play. People who refer to zoning as "spamming" and call Sim players bitching for turtling.

Instead of having the CPU have godlike reactions to everything you do, it needs to focus on having AI do blockstrings, zoning, footsies, etc. Obviously nothing too insane, because there's only so much the devs can account for, but it'll at least get them familiar with the mechanics.

Also, better trials. The shit in SF and Marvel is so dumb, especially SF. They ask you to do things that no one in their right mind would do, and only having someone do it once doesn't help them. To get better, you need repetition. Have them do it 3 times before they complete that trial.

Thor Dark World was meh (I had high expectations). Marvel needs to to step up what Thor does action wise. I don't think he is a better Superman though, imo.

Most importantly Marvel movies have a sense of fun, like a cape flick should.

Meanwhile, in another universe:

It will, people wanna face chrisg. However, new people are gonna surface after defend the north and take the throne but not in a dominating fashion like chris. Hopefully flux doesn't take it, rather have rayray.

Chris G leaving won't hurt because attendance for Marvel is already low. There's more people that show up to Bum's than to Next Level for Marvel. We'll probably see more people come out because they'll actually have a chance to win instead of fighting for second place.

Very true, I agree. However, I think otherwise. The whole reason why attendance is low might be because of the distance. A lot of marvel heads live in the bronx and manhattan, a train ride to next level is hell when doing it before and after. Its 2 hours where I live from and Bum is convenient enough to host it in the bronx. Aside from that, if these things were done earlier, a lot more people would come.

As I was super late to begin watching FGC stuff, can someone explain to me (very short response please, it can't be that complicated?) why everyone literally seemed to despise Skisonic. Like, all I can say is that sometimes, the guy was annoying but I can say that about some of the other commentators as well.

Mob mentality, flavor of the month sort of shit? There's no good answer.

I got in kinda late too, like 3 years ago, but apparently it was an ongoing gag in the twitch chat to hate on him. Most people said he wasn't spot on with a lot of his match analysis. He was good to hear but he was more of an ESPN guy than the hype guy like Neo, Yipes, Tasty Steve or Combofiend. Also, rumors were flying around that he got gootecks in puddles of trouble one time, don't know the validity of it so don't take my word for it, just what I heard.

A lot of people dislike him because he isn't a hype commentator. Also, he reduces hype moments significantly somehow. Oh and his analysis of matches are pretty off sometimes.

I feel like without ChrisG you will see a lot of "big plays" from the regulars at NLBC and people will fool themselves into thinking those players are better than they actually are. Then when they enter majors, they will get bopped by West Coast players.

On East Coast as a whole, Flocker will remain unchanged, maybe even get better and win more regionals at East Coast if ChrisG is attending them less. Him or Yipes have clear shots at those EC only tournaments.

I don't think him leaving EC will hurt them, like they aren't going to get worse without him. They will either stay about the same or will get better. Maybe you will see more players pop up and level up faster, who knows.

As far as the whole DC vs Marvel goes... DC did alright with Man of Steel but they could've done a lot better (like a better script for that movie which was pretty mediocre). It could've been their Iron Man. Instead they got a Thor quality first movie that they are forcing to be a spring board for the Batman vs Superman movie and the Justice League movie. And from the sound of things, Batman vs Superman is like a Justice League part 1 or a pre-Justice League movie. Not to mention the crazy cast choices... where as Marvel is NAILING the casting for their movies.

DC does have Marvel beat in the animated movies and the TV shows. Arrow is pretty damn good and is building its own universe.

That is false.

I also find it hilarious that people hate skisonic on gootecks' behalf, considering that gootecks was the old skisonic. (Stream monsters target for hatred for no reason other than it being the thing to do)

edit: also guys predictions for how many matches Justin Wong can win at Apex......in Smash 64

He could probably win one set, at least... depending on who it is anyway -- Smash 64 isn't quite as technical-required to play as Melee, as long as he's aware of Z-canceling he could do pretty well on fundamentals and such.

But no way he's getting very far lol.
