If somebody pauses and it's during footsies or during a super or something, I say it's fine and lets just keep playing. While I am doing a combo is a no-no of course, though.

This has only happened to me like twice or thrice maybe, in meaningless locals and pool play, haha.

speaking of Smash, Apex hype!

I can't recall, but they don't enable "disabling pause" in Smash tourneys? It's an option after all.

Game is amazing, btw. Really just having a blast, been laughing all afternoon. It definitely has a lot of depth and options--certainly a huge step up from Towerfall or Samurai Gunn, imo, which didn't captivate me as much as this.

Hrm, game doesn't seem to like PS360+. It detects the buttons but not the sticks, turning Nidhogg into a bizarre Divekick variant.

Probably going to have to set up JoyToKey, like BBB.

The "pause = dq" rule is always in place, but Evo is the only tournament (I think) that mandates it regardless of what the non-offending player says. Most tournaments (UFGT included) tend to put the burden of enforcing the rule onto the other player, which I can see as being unfair. Either the player lets it ride, which could hurt their situation, or they take the DQ but feel like the bad guy for doing it. Basically nobody (no TO or bracket runner or player) wants to be the bad guy so pauses often go unpunished. And if a player ever does take a round or game by pause, they're made out to be worse than Stalin (or Keits), as happened to Flux yesterday. I think more tournaments need to take the hard line on pauses that Evo does so that this dumb stuff won't happen in the future.

Yeah, this just came up at Frosty Faustings. No one was sure of the rules(the player had paused in the few seconds between lifebars in IGAU) and the TO left it up to the other player. A mess.

Personally I think all pauses should be DQ. During super or anything else. Momentum is a thing.

I remember from one of the Curleh Mustaches (I think it was this event), they had some mvc2 tournament going on. Since it was dreamcast, they did the soft reset like 10 seconds in. But instead of just playing it out, they tried to make the conditions just like it was, and tried smacking the point characters a few times and get the meter right, but during the middle of this, they just noticed how fucking stupid it was looking and just started the match over.

By the way, I just want to point out that this never would have happened in Skullgirls! You have to hold down the button, for I think 15 frames, before the game actually pauses.
