Flux: I tried being patient against ChrisG but I got chipped out or mixed up. That's why I am losing.

Sanford: No you are losing because your Dante is ASS!!!!

About those TV's...

I went to Next Level this past weekend, it was my fourth time there and what also felt like my last because I'm not going to force myself to play on those awful TV's anymore. I shouldn't have to adopt to the terrible standards of their TV's to do the most simple of combos with Nova and Spencer. Worse than that is when I try to play Strange and I can't confirm into full combos after Mystic Swords. I can also do the FoF loop for free when I play with my brother at home but I never once landed it in a match there.

I don't blame Yipes for not showing up to Next Level anymore and I hope Bum gets his tournament series up if he's still doing one.

That's a shame. It looks like a fun ass place to go. Do you know what kind of TVs they were? I'm guessing 20 inch LCDs, just laggier than Evo monitors?

How many TVs are we talking about here?

Given the number of viewers, surely a donation drive wouldn't be too big a deal to get some decent ones put in?

I wasn't supposed to watch this but man are some of the comments just crazy.

"Marvel is such a random game and Chris is playing the only team that neutralizes the randomness."

If that is true, then why the hell is anyone playing that game? Switch to something less random then. Spend that time playing KOF or AE. Stop bitching.

Wait, even damn regular Nova flight combos? They're THAT bad?

Not to hate on the guy as he's solid with his main team, but he doesn't really have good results with anything other than that.
I think his Hawkeye variant team is pretty good, and got him pretty far vs. FChamp and one recent major I forget.

Also he got pretty deep into Big Two bracket before he had to switch back from his Iron Fist team.

Real talk Flux looked depressed halfway through that, sitting there with a red face and his voice slowly drowning out about him saying all the stuff he can't do better than Chris G.

It's addictive, and gives you the most rewarding feeling out of any fighting game when you're on top. When your not, it's the worst feeling out of any fighting game and you pretty much feel like it's bullshit. AE is slow-paced and KoF has forgettable characters and isn't a Capcom game. It isn't a surprise that a lot of Marvel players are super into the lore behind all of the characters too.

These guys theory fighting against ChrisG's team is laughably bad and ChrisG is probably laughing behind the PC at them.

They don't realize that while there are quite a few characters who do well against Morrigan + Doom (like Hawkeye, Dormammu) those characters who do well against the duo lose badly to Vergil. Vergil beats Hawkeye clean/free and beats Dormammu as well. Cap is not solid and consistent in his neutral game to deal with Morrigan + Doom and neither is Skrull... they have YOLO hail mary options at best. You might as well pick Thor.

Right now the best team to play against that is XXX/Dante/Strider or XXX/Vergil/Strider. The first character can be either Vergil/Dante or Viper. With Viper her strategy is to either get Morrigan at the start of the round like Wolverine, make a correct read on Morrigan with XF or find a way underneath Morrigan so she can get mixed up by Vajra WHILE throwing out Seismos and Beams to nullify the Doom assist. If Morrigan gets touched Vergil HAS to eat an unblockable set up as he has no way out. Doom against any of those characters is pretty much free.

Even then it's not easy at all and no one plays these types of team with any consistently especially on the EC. Sanford is right in that if ChrisG was on the WC he would have a harder time especially in Norcal because these characters are common there... no so much in EC.

Flux is a bum. Chris G plays troll teams and gets to top 3. Flux plays ZMC and gets top 3. Then he wants to say that Chris only wins because of his team. Make Flux drop Zero he probably struggles to make top 8 at Big Two.

If Marvel characters are that important, then one option is to just stop caring about winning tournaments and just play for fun. Listening to those whines and excuses was just sad.

anyone else agree Moons is fast becoming 3rd best in the East Coast, behind Chris G and Yipes?

i rate him above Noel, Marlin and Flux.

I think Marlin Pie is coming back strong but Rayray is better than moonz so he's like 4th best if you rate him above Noel. This is my opinion.

People do still play for fun, it's just a pride thing. I think most of the stuff in that stream was a huge non-issue, but some interesting discussions came out of it. The competitive nature and the crown is something a lot of players strive for. You can probably assume anybody that participates in a competitive community has some degree of desire to hold the title.

Sanford is just sick of Chris G having no real competition. That's a bit of an exaggeration, but Chris G's dominance is pretty factual. He wants people to step it up and for there to be multiple threats at the highest level, not just the level below it.

Moons has always been good, it's just nobody watches The Arena. I kind of agree with the list they came up on stream, the best in East Coast is Chris G, Flux and RayRay, and Moons if he decides to show up. EDIT: And Yipes, when he shows up and doesn't get piss drunk the night beforehand.

Noel still be hungry, but we don't see much of him anymore. Moons is probably the best top player that doesn't play with top players. If he did, oh man.

Yep but it is the same guys as big two.

I firmly doubt that. Big Two is mostly cats from Brooklyn, Manhattan, and the Bronx which is under like 30 regulars lol

At EC Majors you see Maryland, Virginia, East Canada, and Ohio make it out. For its FGTV regulars and the runback people with Arizona peeps. Correct me if I'm mistaken

Yep but it seems to be the same guys as big two anyway.

Which is why winning a wc major or evo is more interesting.
It's actually the other way around. Mid-west, Jersey, LI and southern folk come out for EC majors. For WC majors it's pretty much everyone from WNF/TRB and UCI (most of which go to WNF/TRB) and that's it.

It's both those factors and more. ChrisG is godlike + EC is not as good + he has a cheap team + he plays at tournaments a lot + EC isn't motivated enough to dethrone him + EC doesn't counter pick him properly.
+ Chris G can counter pick their counter picks.

Yeah but there are only like 5 good players on the ec. Besides yipes they are at big two each week.

Rest of the guys are just making up the numbers.

The best wc players show up at majors and these are the places people like Yipes get exposed by the CJ's and so on.

That can be said for any coast/region.

People play marvel because it lets bad players feel like they have a chance. Top players play it because tournaments for marvel are huge, and they are huge because of the many scrubs who enter thinking that they have a chance. I play marvel and I've traveled enough to know that most top players don't like playing marvel, they like making money off delusional pot monsters.

Don't get me wrong, the game is fun, but the most rewarding? Please.

Is that why the top players sit around doing nothing all day but playing Marvel? Money? Maybe you should consider that a lot of people play this game because it's fun.

This is a really ridiculous assertion.

BTW Enzo, for the OP schedule, I think they got rid of salty battles weekly.
Just checked their twitter and I see your right. RIP Salty Battles. :(

I've come to a bit of an issue when it comes to picking stuff to include in the special events section; I don't know what to do about monthlies.

KOF's characters are way cooler than most of AE or Marvel's characters. Also, if you want rewarding, dominating a match of KOF is pretty untouchable of a feeling. I feel like Marvel's current popularity is a mix of it being extremely noob friendly to learn, being part of an established franchise that many hold dearly and fan service. The game on it's own isn't anything special.

Couldn't it have just meant he wants to see how Moonz does outside his comfort zone? Wouldn't be the first time a good player turns out to be great, but only in his region.

Also, marvel is very unique- what non-versus series games come even remotely close to having the same team-based focus of marvel?
None that I'm aware of.

Maybe if you think bell-bottom pants are just the best goddamn thing ever.

Gonna have to agree to disagree on that. I feel like all of KoFs characters lack soul and there's very little aesthetic design gone into them.

Marvel is noob friendly yeah, but I feel like that's thrown out the door once you hit a tournament anyways. It's been a while since the game has came out and actual frauds get nowhere because of the massive time investment in learning tech and how to manipulate the engine. I can't even remember the last time an actual fraud placed high in the game; probably Mike Ross at PowerUp.

And I think the engine itself is what makes it special, Seth called it the ultimate fighting game sandbox, and it is by a longshot. I can't recall any other fighting game that encourages creativity as much. The guys at the House of Crack were just talking earlier in that stream (way before the Sanford rant) about how shit the game is, but the reason why they like it and keep playing it is because you can be creative and relatively speaking do what you want.

You're right, but mvc3 is nothing like mvc2, and I didn't see any of you marvel fans showing any real interest in tvc.
