Our resources suck and everything is super clique heavy, so finding anything past rando netplayer #34 as far as practice and learning goes is shit unless you're about that life.
Taking a step back from it all has been like "wow we're all idiots how we go about things"
Well the clique thing is just a response to the problem. Having a tight core group of players keeps that game a live for the group, one way or another. It doesn't increase in size, but also less likely to decrease, keeping things as stable as possible outside of major life altering changes. That's important for a competitive game where it's hard to find other people to play with whether locally or netplay.
I mean let's be fair even much larger games are shitty in terms of practice and learning. They simply can get by on match making and large enough player pools.
Edit: From my point of view I wouldn't worry about it too much. Sure do what you think is best and obviously put in as much effort as your passion demands, but it's on the developers, the franchise owners, and many other parties to manage and grow these things.
