Fighting Games Weekly | June 1-7 | QAisTopTier

I can see the videos a few years off already

Lots of highlights of Daigo beasting
Some stuff from lessers (Bonchan/Tokido/Infil/Justin/Snake/Smug/Louffy/etc)
09ers talking about how it "Revitalized the fighting genre" (even though that's only part of the story)
Clips from "Evo moments" videos

can't let people forget this tho

Did 3SO have numerical ping or am I not remembering correctly?

I can't remember the last time I played 3SOE, but I don't think it did. Them having GGPO alone puts them about an entire stratosphere above +R in the online realm, though. That is enough for me and classic FG remixes/remasters.

They added ping numbers in the patch. The one that took one year to be "approved."

Time for some love/hate speeches this week...

For pretty much every game, I enjoy character specialists for characters you rarely see on stream. Even if it's a character I hate, it always gets my attention. I don't particularly hate seeing characters on a stream, but there are definitely times where I don't mind taking a bathroom break like when Team DLC on a KoFXIII stream appears or BBCP 1.0 Kokonoe. Thankfully the latter has ended, but the former makes me sigh still.

Forgot to make a list myself:

UMVC3
Best: Viper, Dante, Strider, Felicia, Taskmaster, Rocket Raccoon, Amaterasu, Viewtiful Joe, Wesker
Worst (in a "I get PTSD seeing this" way): Firebrand/Skrull, Hulk match start Wolverine (get used to your fastest normal being 8 frames versus that and you'd always have to mention it here)

Melee
Best: Marth, Falco, Peach, Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Samus, Luigi, C. Falcon
Worst: Sheik but barely

Project M
Best: Marth, Pit, Falco, Falcon, Luigi, Samus,
Worst: 3.02 Mario

Smash 4
Best: Marth (haha), Pit, Greninja (if they existed), Palutena, Luigi, Zero Suit Samus
Worst: NESS. NESS. NESS. Also Sonic.

Vampire Saviour
Best: Hsien-Ko, Q-Bee, B.B. Hood, Jon Talbain
Worst: Sasquatch

Third Strike
Best: Makoto, Urien, Q, Dudley
Worst: American Chun

Guilty Gear XXAC+R & its variants
Best: Baiken, Jam, Johnny, Bridget
Please Stop: Zappa, Zato

Guilty Gear Xrd
Best: Elphelt, Ky, I-no
Worst: Millia, Zato, Axl

I should note that while a few I have here in worst or "don't really care for", there are only a few that outright put me into ResidentSleeper mode. I still can find the entertainment value in derp like round start Wolverine or Hulk, +R Zappa or other things of that nature.

Man, fuck watching Dante. I'd rather watch a match with 6 Dr. Dooms than watch a Dante snoozefest.

Beef is the only acceptable exception to the rule guys, do not take the bait.

:p

I havent been in the SG IRC in like 2 years since it was just one group of eltist sg players taking shots at the noncomp fanbase which pissed me off for trying to further a divide, saying Skullheart sucked and never posting there and helping making the site a good resource for comp play discussion and tactics and talking blazblue if they werent being asked questions.

No idea what it's like now. Hopefully they arent pricks. Makes no sense for one group of nerds to attack another group of nerds for liking the same thing for different reasons.

I thought SF4's evo top 8s were all kind of boring.

Except when Infiltration demon'd everyone that was cool

I agree. Top 64 to 8 is so hype, but then they kill it with the day break. It is just too short to build up again and the players too "solid".

They should play at least the top 16 on finals day. They can make up the time by moving games like MK or KI to VxG

BakedYams

Slayer of Combofiends
...pls I just want friends

fuck that shit, aint no one wanna be yo friend.
yo get a PC homie so we can play.

Maybe they're super nerds.

It happens everywhere though.

DOTA nerds shitting on LoL nerds.

CS nerds shitting on Halo nerds.

Smash Melee nerds shitting on Smash Brawl/4 nerds.

Nerds are always hating other nerds. It's the circle of life.

You sure? I think smash folks netplay melee via dolphin and I'm not sure that had built it online. If it doesn't require that stuff people could play online ggxxac and tvc too.

either way, I know no one would play the gamecube version anyway. The best way to actually play it online is with the dreamcast version, but you have to coordinate matches yourself :/

Why cant Capcom just release a CvS2: Online Edition? ;_;

NRS with the huge balance updates every month.

What games most infuriate you? For me it's KOF. I've tried to get into the franchise over the years and I just get either pissed off or am just disappointed with it. 13 deserves to stay dead (those hitboxes). But in general, I really hate the balance in each game, it feels like you're forced to pick top tiers exclusively.

Well all that does is just reduce his 50/50 after the tackle, because for example watching Sonic Fox play, after ending with the tackle, it gives him a lot of time to get back in to do another mixup into the same situation. That is pretty huge, since now since it is negative, the opponent recovers fast enough to not eat the mixup again.

I hear ya. The problem I feel is the top characters normals are ridiculous. Like Iori can never be a bad character in kof simply because his normals are a step above the rest.

I'm more mad that in kof 13 some characters had their options stripped from them (vice) or they feel like they could use an extra option or better normals. Here comes mother fucking ex kyo and ex iori with their 15+ year old field tested and approved normals to run through everyone. Then you got Takumas jump CD. That thing is a brick wall.

I don't feel like you have to pick top characters because everyone is kind of good but it's clear that some characters are just better than others. In the case of kof13 some characters are just easier than others as well.

I always thought making Dante into a fighting game character would be nigh impossible, but they pulled it off in MvC3. One the best designed fighting game characters of all time and my favorite. They did it differently than I thought though, I thought they might go all in and make him actually have all his different dmc3 styles that you had to switch through. Now that would be SSStylish!

I feel that normals like Bison's stHK and Takuma's jCD are practically the same.

What I mean by that is, for beginner and intermediate players, they work completely on their own as viable strategies. It takes a lot of knowledge, practice, and excellent reactions or reads to actually get someone to not lean on them.

Vice can stop anyone from jumping with the right spacing. The issue is that you can replace "Vice" in the previous sentence with "Anyone". This means that you either have good spacing and decision-making or you don't. Therefore picking different characters usually has very little effect on the outcomes of the gameplay, with the exception of picking characters with tools like Iori's hop D and Takuma's jCD, because those tools take the least amount of work (spacing/decision-making) to be good with.

Good God, +20? We Smash 64 shield stun near edges now.

It's really not something that is out of the ordinary in fighting games, MK just gives a number on the on the chart instead of - like you see on the usf4 wiki or KD on the KOF13 wiki because it causes a hard knockdown. It's like giving the frame advantage on Zangief's SPD, he probably has something like +30, since he can fit like a green hand after one and do something.

Ah that makes sense. I glanced at it and figured everything was just about being on block

So anybody have a character in any fighting game that tier list be damned it's the one that does best for you?

I think too much people look into what is best at the top end and stunt themselves by playing something they are not into because they don't get them.

Anyone with Fei like rekkas is someone that I'll automatically be interested in playing.

I like picking high-tier and up, but only if the characters are based on a playstyle that I generally like.
