This is shooter country and Microsoft is still king with Halo, Gears (though Judgment might have damaged the brand) and Titanfall. Titanfall was pretty remarkable. I didn't think it was possible to dial up the crazy to 11 (the wall runs, 5 lines of positive reinforcement on kill) and still seem no more ridiculous than a usual modern military shooter.

Though Bungie appears to be making PS4 the preferred platform for Destiny, and Destiny looks hot. Some of the Halo community were Halo fans. Some were Bungie fans. Don't be surprised to see the latter go to PS4.

I'd rather give Skullgirls a second try over giving Killer Instinct the time of day. And my hate for it is also spillover hate from the Xbone in general. You deserve all the scorn people will throw at you for buying into that piece of trash.
Also, why Mario was never a top tier in Smash? He kinda should
Everyone was broken in 64, so it didn't really matter.
Dr. Mario hit harder than regular Mario did. The only things Mario had going for him were speed and an actual meteor smash. And that's not even taking into effect what the Space Animals did to the metagame.
Brawl ruined shit for everyone, and Mario just couldn't do anything worthwhile to make up for it. He's not ass, though. One of the guys from Sacramento plays Mario like he's been top-tier his entire life. Probably the best in the west coast, although he only likes playing Metaknight. Go figure. :p

Maximillian interviews KI devs.

First thing he asks about is F2P. He says that some SKUs at launch will include all the content that occurs over the course of seasons. To me it sounds like you'll be able to lock down the content they will release over the course of time in seasons. Sounds like a long-term strategy that blurs the lines a bit from DLC vs. retail release. They plan to launch, but add to it over time.

I just hope there is an SKU for TOs that allows all forthcoming content at once (hopefully reasonable) price.

Via Eventhubs.

They also mention they have partners within MS to make sure KI is tournament viable and that's a huge priority for them. Double Helix has devs that have worked on SF2 Turbo Hyper Fighting, SSF2 and Skullgirls on the dev team.

A few other events this weekend:

June 15 - DreamHack Summer 2013: DreamHack Energizer Ultimate Lithium Fighting Championship

SSFIV AE only this time around.

June 15-16 - Darkstalkers: Death & Rebirth

Vampire!
Thanks! Will add to OP soon.

Microsoft making a DRM exception for KI (ie. allowing the game to be played offline without online check and no Kinect required) at tournaments would stir up a massive shit storm amongst the gaming community.

In some ways... KI is the best thing to happen to the Xbox One because right now its the console's best chance for reversing its DRM policies. It's too bad fighters aren't that big.

Well, MS is already making exceptions in their DRM for soldiers stationed overseas, so it's really estranged and there's a lot of inequality to it all.

What happens when 3rd party publishers, not just for fighting games, request no DRM, etc. It's just fucked up in general.

I haven't seen that soldier DRM yet because that's just empty promises right now. KI is more concrete with a developer making the game actually in a position to push Microsoft for the change. Who is going to push Microsoft for no DRM in the armed forces? The army? The navy? The commander in chief Obama himself?

That would be pretty hilarious.. Obama demanding the Xbox One be DRM free.

Where was that said?

Can't find it because Google is stuffed with recent stuff about Mattrick telling people to buy 360s but it was mentioned they'd "look into" a solution for soldiers stationed abroad, or possibly provide a special edition or something. It wasn't detailed or specified but them expressing interest alone shows that they really have their own inconsistent agenda they will bend wherever they want.

EDIT: Found it. "Polygon sources" though, who have been wrong and possibly apologist in the past.

While an internet connection will be required for the console, the company is also experimenting with special exemption codes that could be given to select people in very particular, internet-free situations, like active-duty soldiers serving in war zones, sources tell Polygon.

That's not hard to believe they would though, the relationship with the troops is a huge one, and also a pretty big consumer base. Though maybe not as big as all the other internet-less territories.

Just saw a quick KI history talk with Ken Lobb on madcatz's twitch. http://www.twitch.tv/madcatz/b/416035947?t=75m38s

-Ken Lobb is actually the grandfather of KI, literally pioneering the original prototype of the combo system.
-He is currently creative director for Microsoft Game Studios so he has some input on his "baby" since they are publishing it.
-He's been pushing to bring back KI forever, but has been busy overseeing and managing first party publishing.
-It wasn't until a year ago that they were given the go ahead to create a request for proposal for bidding through other 3rd party devs.
-Double Helix, out of all developers, had a quick prototype for Ken and they seemed enthusiastic about it and was signed real quick despite their "history".

Check out Min tonight for the stream.

I also don't see MS making any concessions for the military. They've already cut out the majority of the world from buying the console, and making some concession where the Xbone can play without the online check in would open the flood gates. We'll see what happens.

Shiit. Things not looking too good for Bifu. Capcom going in on his VXG turf and not being able to stream at NLBC.

If all it takes are simple codes to crack the DRM/online requirement... someone is either going to leak the codes or find a way to keygen/hack the codes in and make their console offline playable. Once that happens you no longer have to deal with DRM issues because you are offline and you can play your games whenever.

This is exactly the kind of shit storm I am talking about. For Microsoft this is a slippery slope because once they give out the codes for soldiers then they have to give out codes for Killer Instinct... then probably some other game developer or group will start wanting it. I can't see this ending in anything other than Microsoft removing DRM from the console if they follow down this route.

Just like how people created key gens for all those free ms points and Xbox live subscriptions right?

That's a different case because you would get banned if you tried to do that. In this case if this is being done locally then there is no online check so Microsoft can't ban you for it. Unless you enter the code online which then allows you to play... but then that would defeat the purpose of someone overseas entering a code to play offline that requires you to be online first for the code to be authenticated.

No matter which way you dice it... it's a massive slippery slope. I would be surprised if something like this even gets implemented.

Damn

Would you even give an ASW game a second try over KI? :lol
