Fighting Games Weekly | June 29 - Jul 5 | Frauds Among U.S.

Was 3s as much of a commercial failure as people always make it out to be?

The entire SF3 series wasn't released on a popular console until around 2004...7 years after its original arcade debut.

Kinda hard to sell millions of copies when it was distributed like that.

I really don't think "World Warrior" level success was even their goal (or humanly possible)...especially when SF3 was like the tenth or eleventh SF game released within 6 years.

Well Justin did reveal a ridiculous mix up that FChamp never saw so this has already paid dividends for FChamp.

justin probably has more stuff he hasnt bothered to do. ice storm into wolverine's lvl rage trigger is just dumb lol and thats just one of them.

justin definitely has assloads of tech that he just doesn't do until he really feels the need to based on how he just will randomly pull shit that looks super real + clean in tournament during clutch situations
this is the guy that decided 'ok im gonna win evo this year' by losing to chrisg all year long only to pull point storm and win like it was nothing

also see cr.m vs helm breaker, crossup j.m meaty, his weird zoning patterns w wolv+assists

bruhhhh, that cr.m is hard to do but feasible, most of the time if you dont do it right, it trades but with vergil having the upper hand. the part i dont get is how he confirms it, it always drops for me and justin got chris from a pretty good height lol.

This is like my favorite mixup to see

he has a deadlier one, i wont talk about it tho, its more theory but should be the most idiotic mixup in the game. its not even fair lol

Greatest of all time.

And he did it in the highest of highest pressure situation against another best in the world during a moment that would've send him packing...

Attention all players looking to attend Canada Cup
http://canada-cup.ca/canada-cup-2015-registration/

Early Bird pre-registration ends in one day, so if you're looking to sign up then may as well do it now and save 5-10 bucks.

Gonna be entering USF4 and ST. Probably gonna be facing a bunch of old geezers who will kick my shit in for that game lol. Still, gives me even more incentive to practice hard in ST and improve my footsies.

Justin's got a bunch of other Storm/Akuma teams he plays in casuals. I can remember seeing him use Wesker, Nova, or Vergil in place of Wolverine.

he won't ever pick them. the OS with wolverine is too good lol. plus storm is the star of his team, those air dashes with tatsu assist is a nasty neutral that'll punish anyone trying to run in. if they block the tatsu assist, free high low mixup.

Man seeing the gods play against each other in marvel this evo will be so hype. Justin had Chris' card for a while but last time they played Chris won so im excited for them to match up again. I can't remember the last time Champ has won a tourney over Chris and Justin though.

Justin isn't stupid, he's prolly holding back so Fchamp gets overconfident.

Also, I am beginning to notice things when I play Persona, like how it feels a bit like Marvel and how Narukami is kinda similar to Vergil.
Man, I don't even know who I would play in that game. Love the idea of Elizabeth, but she is super bad. :p

Didn't Justin beat Chris at NWM?

I'm only recalling it because of KBR 3-0ing chris in losers bracket.

Tell me if I am wrong, but she just seems like a gorilla character. Nothing interesting in her play.
Her interesting qualities are in her motives. Also her appearance. ಠ‿ಠ
What about Solomon Grundy
Most fun I've had with a grappler in ages!

Here it is again...

I say Urien from SF3 and Red Snake from Martial Masters. I'll uh...refrain from pics.

I'm only half serious with those choices. My real choices are Raphael from any Soul Calibur that he's in, and Anna Williams from Tekken. Her goofy squid costume aside, I always thought she had very fashionable attire. Shame that she's probably gone from Tekken 7.

I know you're just using a figure of speech, but when I think of Margaret, "gorilla" is not one thing that crosses my mind.

Aww yiss, FChamp chilling in FGTV talking Marvel

Does he have an unupdated Marvel copy just so he can play with the Spanish Magneto costume?

Hibiki from Last Blade.

The most fashionable fighter is probably P4U, most characters got sick fits.

Tbh I tried to come up with more examples but most characters in fighting games are grossly overdressed. Chara designers gotta step it up.

It was meant for the arcades, and I believe it failed even there. It really did fail in American arcades. Nearly every arcade I went to, NG was quickly abandoned and folks continued to play Alpha 2 or 3 (and those weren't the best games either)

I think SF3's failure played a role in the death of American arcades, just like SamSho3's failure played a big role in killing SNK in the US.

SF3 even got a version update in the same year to try and fix whatever problems people had.
One of the fastest version updates from Capcom.

That's putting way too much on the shoulders of one game, but I do think it's a good example of an expensive, cutting-edge arcade board (CPS3) that failed to ever find a killer app to justify its existence to arcade operators like its predecessors did.

The hardware arms race in the mid-90s was probably the biggest strength and weakness of the arcade scene. You went to the arcades back then mostly because consumer hardware wasn't even close to replicating the experience, but shit got so expensive so fast that the cost eventually got to the point where it wasn't worth it for either the players or the operators. The Sega Model 2, for example, was a relatively easy sell when you had a juggernaut like Daytona USA raking it in, but Sega never even came close to duplicating that success on the Model 3, and their next major arcade system after that (Naomi) was just a Dreamcast in a different box instead of new, cutting-edge tech.

VF also died in the US due to its arcade board. VF3 was just too expensive for American arcades, and before VF3 VF was a pretty big deal. I really think if Sega had made a cheaper VF3 that was doable on the Saturn, Sega would have lasted longer.

Speaking of VF, why is Lady Gaga here cosplaying VF5 Vanessa?
