My guess for what ofl is doing. If it's not right, maybe think about doing it with the caveat that I know nothing about websites and if this is even viable
Rather than a giving out a pot bonus for the final pot, have a bonus for players/ matches that meet certain criteria, judged by online polls on your website. Assuming ofl.com has the capability to have up to date stats based on the results of the poll. The inspiration for this is curleh west when yipes gives prizes; where this is based on the feeling/votes of the viewers instead of how yipes feels
Examples of what bonuses could be used for. Obviously would change based on the game, but I'll use marvel as the example.
$1000 for the hypest comeback
$1000 for craziest/ swaggiest combo or new tech, performed in game
$1000 match of the night of whatever (500 per player)
$100 for best commentator lmao
Let me use last year to illustrate how I see it working
Before evo, everyone knows about there bonuses, so players will know to show their crazy and innovative shit on stream
As matches start happening, viewers go to ofl site ( or maybe it can work in the twitch chat??? Iuno, I'm the not the expert) and vote/rank based on the what the bonuses are.
This data should the be easily viewable So commentators can then integrate into their commentary.
Combofiend or magus or ultradavid or whoever did marvel evo last year
" that last match was insane. I can't beeline that Justin beat Chris G, but accoriding to the viewers who voted, cloud805 beating champ was still the hypest match of the night so far and they are in line to win the bonus. Let's see if any of the top 4 matches can beat that"
"Looks like cloud is in the running to make some money as not only was his match vs champ voted the as the hypest, but that insane incoming mixup with Dante against Phoenix was voted as the craziest new tech, beating out angelic's shuma combo"
Obviously this is pretty basic since I don't know shit if something like this is feasible, but I think it does a lot for everyone in the Fgc
Players- Money available for players who prolly wouldn't get paid through top 8 bonuses...... The dude in this thread vs Gandhi might get voted as hypest match and they would both get paid lmao. Players are rewarded for all hard work they do when coming up with crazy combos/ tech if it works on stream and the viewers like it. Allows players to have legitimate stats based on how the viewer sees them, which can potentially be used for sponserships (yipes rarely makes top 8 but his matches always get voted high.....which can allow him to say to sponsors "I might not win as much but my time on stream is still valuable based on these metrics")
Viewers- allows us to interact in real time with the tournament and players playing. Allows us to have a numeric value for "hype", even if it's only coming from paid chat members/ a small number of people actually voting. Had the potential to give us crazier moments of hype as players try to do crazy shit to win the bonuses.
Tournament organizers- if done properly, has the potential to curb pot splitting and collusion as players will always be wanting to win the bonuses.
Grand finals is Ricky vs Justin (hopefully this never happens again)
Instead of giving us the lame shit we usually get, we might get to see some legit gameplay as they both have motivation to put on a show for the viewers. Too bad it's still Rufus mirrors tho lol. Shoulda used a better example but you get the gist.
Commentators- allows them to interact with the viewers on a more intimate level. As stated in the example above, they would have access to the data right away and incorporate it into their commentary
Sponsors- another way for them to see who exactly the viewers like lol. Take Gandhi lol. I've only seen him once but they shit was so hype and if he got voted for hypest match for that one tournament, a sponsor might see that and fly him out to more tournaments cuz there is semi-legit proof that people like him lol. This is an extreme example but whatever
Casper one- brings traffic to your site lol
