And this is why no one wants to place bets with you.

Well this and other reasons.

And how do you quantify "Killer Instinct finals will suck"?
the over/under thing is a common type of bet found on sports betting websites but imo, i would change that bet to over/under 2.5 'gods' instead (over 1.5 seems to be heavily in favour towards the bookie aka deckard).

so which of the big name u.s players do you think will end up getting knocked out early at evo?

How early are we talking about? Like Pools? Right after pools? Or top 32?

Out of the EG boys I see at least 2 of them. And I think it's K-Brad + Ricky/Justin. Pr Balrog is probably the guy I have the most faith with out of that crew.

Also I think most of team Pie would not make it that far. Not because they are not good, but for guys like Smug first time big stage... I think Zeus does the best out of those guys (top 128/64/32ish).

Does Valle count? I don't see him going far either or most of the WC for that matter....

My guess for what ofl is doing. If it's not right, maybe think about doing it with the caveat that I know nothing about websites and if this is even viable

Examples of what bonuses could be used for. Obviously would change based on the game, but I'll use marvel as the example.

Pot bonuses should be used to bring people in. It needs to be something that most of the entrants have access to.

My suggestion: each win gets you 1 raffle ticket. Entering and going 0-2= tough luck. I don't want folks entering to just be pot/shirt monsters, I do think being able to win 1 match should be a minimum requirement.

Idea: Bonus tickets to unseeded players if they win rounds off seeds in pools.(Seeds would be defined as seeded player in pod)

Raffle off the pot bonus money in chunks after the tourney.

Beef can be shy like that

My hunch is that one of the USF4 heads coming from the EU (there isn't that many) will have a heartbreaker match and not get out of pools. I think the highest risk players for that happening are Will2Pac and Popi, who have each other in their pool!

Here's the bracket:

http://evo2014.s3.amazonaws.com/brackets/ssf4_b60.html

Will2Pac, Popi, Damdai and two other foriegn players in one pool. It's the weirdest bracket I've seen so far.

No, this isn't right, but holy crap, this is an awesome idea.

Last year for Marvel at Capcom Cup, we had Twitch polling in place for opinions which Peter and Magus integrated into their commentary (via dashboard), so we can have that up and running easily, the rest is just making sure the commentators perform the callouts at the right time.

Casper one- brings traffic to your site lol

Should note that I'm not really looking for traffic on the site. It's a nice thing, yes, but the services aren't public facing at this point. Someday there may be public-facing services (at least, more than just the poll results), but the latest round of tech isn't going to be public facing, while at the same time, I'm hoping it will have a significant impact on what we expect from the FGC going forward.

I know you're pretty old school but didn't know you knew about those days / how nuts I was, lol. Those were the days.

<3

=)

I was thinking along those lines with the twitter comment... maybe he is using twitch chat instead ;)

Nope.

In theory, the only problem I see with what you wrote is certain players would be good at using their "loyal followers" to scoop any such prizes.

This sort of format would work best in an invitational or restricted to top 8 only. It wouldn't really be fair since the only players that are eligible are those who play on stream. There are dozens of other stations and matches going on but those players wouldn't get the chance to win the bonus. Bonuses work for the UFC because all of the fights are shown to the audience.

Gaming the system as well as having a shot at winning those bonuses are issues that need to be worked out. These aren't technical issues per-se.

Such a good picture.

I said the same thing when he first showed it to me. It's by far one of my favorites from that event.

This Would be godlike. Remember in 2012 when latif was the runner up from the year before and his march with Daigo wasn't shown

I very much like the idea of people voting for the matches they want to see on stream. I think this is an amazing idea.

One thing to consider is that the stream messes up bracket run times tremendously, especially at a major event like Evo (where the wait queue has been up to 45 minutes in the past)

Pulling them from the top four of a pool would probably help eliminate some of that delay.

the over/under thing is a common type of bet found on sports betting websites

I thought the same thing when Dahbomb first mentioned it.

It's laid out like that to make sure there's zero confusion over who wins, who loses, as long as the fractional unit isn't an event that can actually occur.

It's a common sports bet, been around forever and applicable to almost anything (a specific team's score, the combined scores of teams, individual player performance metrics, etc.)

Pulling from top four doesn't even always work, mainly because if you pull the qualifying match from winner's side, the end of the losers bracket can get stuck -- and if you pull anything other than loser's finals that late, the entire bracket is stuck until that match is resolved. From my experience, a full Evo pool takes about 90 minutes to play through, so there is some leeway there (unless it's KoFXIII or SSBM) but I think with an event the size of Evo, they should just stick to streaming a specific pool or two. Let sponsored players get their burn during the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds.

I think there's a legal issue* with this -- to my knowledge, it's legal in most states for people to pay a fee to enter a content of skill, but it's not legal in most places to pay a fee to engage in a game of chance. This is why you can take entry fees for a fighting game tournament (and this would even extend to money matches in some jurisdictions, as they are effectively impromptu two man tournaments), but if you start raffling off part of the prize money (and now you enter a random element), that's when it starts looking like a game of chance. Now how much chance is allowed is way messier -- would a poker tournament be legal? What about a backgammon tournament? Should UMvC3 tournaments be legal?

*Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, this is not legal advice blah blah blah

It'd be best to do a Viewer's Choice Award at first to test the tech. I don't like the idea of giving money via vote rather than who actually wins the tournament.

All of those bets made by Deckard were in favor of Deckard. Most of them should've been presented with odds (like a Japanese player in Marvel top 8, no one should take that bet unless it's at least 1 to 5).

I want to bet that an American player can make top 8 in USF4 but it's Deckard.... not the most reliable of places to make bets at.

There's no way I see KBrad getting peaced out early. Maybe Ricky. Possibly Justin if he insists on Elena... which he won't if he is down a set. Valle... I never bet against The Power of Cali.

Odds & amounts are to be dicussed in PMs. That's why they are not listed.

Hmm, my BBCP bracket got shuffled again. I don't have Bananaken first round anymore but I have Lord Knight in the same half of my new one, lol.

Speaking of who y'all think is going to get upset in pools/not get as far as their skills dictate, what's your top 5 players that you personally don't want to do well.

Mine for sf

1. Fuudo - evo 2011 was my first ever major I watched for sf, and I got sucked into the latif hype train. I've cheered for fuudo to lose ever since. Also, fei long.......
2. Ricky- I loathe whiners.
3. Xian- don't wanna see repeat winners lol
4. Daigo- I don't even mind him, just the fanboys will be so annoying if he wins
5. Mago- chose to be on Ryan harts side during his spaz episode a few years back.... Also, fei long

Marvel

1. Justin- iuno, I've never really liked him. Also, dahbomb is going for him...dahbomb the homie too, it's just fun when he's wrong
2. Any Japanese player
3. Flocker
4. Pretty much every haggar player, with kbr at the front
5. Neo

Not sure if this is the right thread to ask this, but how do the Capcom vs SNK 2(PS2 classic) and SCII HD online run compared to their PS2 counterparts?

The only player that I enjoy watching lose is Sanford but he's not going off the EMP food stamps program is he?

Beside that wish all the players best of luck.

i really don't want to see any rufus players getting top 8.
no rufus in top 8 = 500k stream viewers
rufus in top 8 = 50k stream viewers

There's no person I don't want to win EVO or not do well. It wouldn't be as interesting if the same people won as last year but as long as the matches are great and the winners showed sufficient skill through the course of the tournament I am fine with it.

Wonder how many ppl switched to dante assist for evo since he now has an easy infinite

I'd happily bet that no Rufus will make T8, and I main that character. If Justin played Yun, though...

There's not really any players I hope don't do well - but I hope we don't see a Yun win, and I really want to see something interesting in Marvel rather than the Doctor Doom Meta.

BTW, KOF being on Saturday night is excellent news. Not to hate on KOF but it is so incredibly long... D:

Not many? There has been no real increase or decrease in Dante usage. People who used to use Dante because their team greatly benefited from Jam Session still play him where as those that didn't use Dante made no switch.

Even for the few who brought in Dante as a secondary assist (like Flocker and his Dante) it wasn't because an easier TAC infinite was discovered on him. The main team that uses Dante has no real use for TACs (that is ZMC) but I can see Sumbrownkid using that TAC infinite for him team (but he always used Dante, that team he probably has been using since Vanilla).

Did you watch Full Schedule's stream when sumbrwnkid was on a while back? He did the Dante infinite for 60 Marvel seconds.

...Then he ended up losing because of a time out. It was pretty funny.
