I have yet to finish the original. I lost my save when I had to format my old laptop and I didn't feel as encouragable about it since, even though I loved what I played of it. I really lose my desire to play when something like that happens.

In general, I love the aesthetic of cyberpunk, and I think it'd definitely be well-suited to a fighting game. You could opt for more 'grounded' cyberpunk and stick to humans, genetically enhanced humans, cybernetically augmented humans, etc. or you could take it further and add in people with telekinetic abilities, genetically-engineered non-humans or whatever. The setting is 'fixed/distinct' enough to provide the game a coherent visual language, it can offer visually cool environments to fight it, and it can offer a lot of variety as far as characters' visual designs and playstyles go.
I think cyberpunk is very hard to convey on a character level, cyberpunk characters like normal humans, androids or genetically/mechanically enhanced humans won't imply cyberpunk outside a cyberpunk setting, you'd need cyberpunk stages which might feel out of place if the game didn't have a cyberpunk theme as a whole.

MK3 kinda tried to do the cyberpunk thing, but what little they achieved with the theme was completely lost with the return of the classic MK stuff in Ultimate. People don't look at Jax's metal arms, the cyber ninjas, Kabal and Kano outside MK3 and think they have a cyberpunk theme going for them.

sounds like you never saw the official tekken ball world championship tournament

where they picked this stage exclusively because it's the best

Some good memories here:

Some back story. Rickstah was the first TEKKEN BALL (T3) champion at SCR 2011. At SCR 2013, BL became the undisputed TEKKEN BALL (TAG 2 Wii U) champion.

Both champions would later meet at the TEKKEN FGC memorial event and boy did we have a match for the ages...

I wanna see a fighting game based around spellcasting

I know there's fighting games with people doing magic-y shit but I don't think there's been one where the default style is characters going around all Harry Potter shouting I'M A FUCKING WIZARD at each other

Is Destrega close enough?

Just curious- does anyone miss the days when wakeup reversal specials/supers were a lot stronger?

Yeah, it should be your ass (full combo) if it's blocked, but give the other guy some reason not to run setplay on wakeup.

I remember Mike Z specifically saying he wanted that in Skullgirls, though he ended up effectively nerfing it hard later on with meter gain changes.

There are wake-up options that are 100% safe in Xrd, when were wake up specials/supers stronger?!
Also, I haven't played Injustice, but I hear a lot of complaints about how good the wake up options in that game are it.

Thanks for the info!

Looks like a loaded tournament, this weekend should be heaven with this and SXSW.

Man, you can't just abandon anime like that. I bet if I put some fucking Patlabor units in the game, you would get back into that shit

Only one thing could bring Shouta back.

lol jchens theory crafted using deadangle to deny the opponent from RC-ing. Not sure how practical or if its old but its cool to see how he just came up with the idea on the spot on stream. He was literally just telling people what were the conditions were to RC and to dead angle

Huh... Do you remember the explanation for how this worked? I wouldn't think that dead angle would do anything to prevent the opponent from either getting an RC out or doing anything after an RC.

I disagree. For certain characters, like the hardboiled future cop 'Decker' type dude, sure, but one glance at a dude like the main character from the new Deus Ex game and you instantly think cyberpunk. The Mortal Kombat stuff just strikes me as 90s 'robots fuck yeah!" trend rather than having anything to do with cyberpunk.

I like the colors and vibe cyberpunk gives too. That was one of the reasons why I loved the stage in SF5 (at least the outside) before all of the shit characters popped up in the background.

It depends on the character and match up. Some have very good options, some have almost none. In a lot of match ups it's the opposite of what you're saying and the oki game is insanely in favor of the aggressor.

I thrive on KD setplay as Catwoman.

what happened

arturo (if im not mistaken) saw chris g whining on twitter and asked him if he wanted a tissue for it and chris responded
something among the lines that he isn't a fa***t and afterwards deleted his post after a huge shitstorm about it

Wow I had no idea. What a classy dude

So I guess nobody likes Chris G still? Such a shame because he's one of the best players out there. I know personally, I tuned him out when he started talking about how he was expected to win Evo, so no one would care if he won. Didn't even win.

What happened to him anyway? Did he leave the scene for a while?

Incorrect. It was Mr. Wizard and it was after Chris G lost to Señor Taxi at NCR (I want to say 2013).

Oh wait, I actually vaguely recall catching some of this. I guess this was the first time I heard the song by itself, so hearing all the lyrics really stood out more.

This doesn't make any sense. The only way a DeadAngle would deny a RC is if the DeadAngle hit them. I assume it's somewhere in here? http://www.twitch.tv/ultrachentv/v/3882137

I'd love a Magic: The Gathering fighting game where you play as the Planeswalkers.

I've long thought about how to make it a fighting game while keeping to the same themes of the card game. I think you'd have to make it like Persona 4 Arena or JoJo's.

The 2nd Touhou fighting game had a card and deck building element. Through out the fight you draw and use cards. Using cards could augment or replace your special moves, or give you buffs or globally effect the battlefield. For a MtG themed fighter, you could have the same thing, but also add summon cards and they'd slot in a partner that you could swap in or call for assist, ala Marvel.

cyberpunk

Would a cyberpunk fighter have some sort of "hacking" element? Like you hit them and then you swap the input commands for their tatsu and DP. Or maybe the only way to gain meter is to hack in and steal it from a central reservoir. lol
