yo, KBR

No one likes you Zero.

I'm surprised there are so many people butthurt over this. When the poll first opened up, they asked for the hypest players, not the best players. It's a solid list. ChrisG is probably the least hype player there but if he loses a match, we can probably expect a lot of hype.

But also note that when making the "hypest v. best" distinction, many people thought "well, Capcom would probably put the gods on lock, and the vote is probably for the remaining spots."

Them basing the entirety of the Marvel Capcom Cup on the list... well, that was not entirely expected.

And even despite Zoop Zoop Bullshit, I would personally still probably put Flocker as being more hype than fucking Chris G and FChamp at this point.

I voted for bee. Rather see some sick frank dante bullshit than lame phoenix and morrigan. I do like their execution/confirms but damn

Man, fuck the butthurt people, I'm hype as fuck for this. I just wish they announce what will be the tourney format already! I hope it's like FT5 or round robin or something like that

Do we know who's in charge of Capcom Cup? As in, who exactly is making the decision to have qualifiers for some games, and all fan voted entries for others? I imagine it's just some Capcom exec, but it'd be nice to know regardless.

While I do agree that it will be hype seeing Nemo take both of them on again I feel like the rest of the tourney will suffer by them being there. Oh well, can't be helped now.

The way it's been presented, it's not so much a tournament as much as it is an exhibition. They'll use a tournament format, but I don't see this as being strictly a tournament in terms of determining the participants.

Their decisions make sense if you take a look at their goals for each game:

 • AE 2012 - They want a strong international presence, so they set up qualifiers all over the world.
 • SFxTK - The online community for this game has been touted as being better than those playing at tournaments, so they invite four strong tournament players and do online qualifiers for the other half.
 • UMvC3 - This is all about hype (however you want to quantify that), so they open up polls and tell the community to vote for the players they think will make the bracket as exciting as possible.
Like people have said before, this is more of an exhibition than a tournament. I know some would have liked the qualifying process to be the same across the board, but the goals Capcom had for each game were obviously very different.

Kane Blue River means it will guaranteed be entertaining for at least a little bit.

The problem I think is that voting for underdog players, may or may not result in a good showing of their abilities. They may play an unorthodox team but what would be the point if they go 0-2? It's a closed 8 man bracket, the skill levels aren't even and someone has to lose.

Which is why this event should be round robin, either one pool of 8 or two pools of 4 (world cup style). Running this double-elimination defeats the purpose of holding a small, invitation-only event.

I bet Nemo won't be able to make it. I wonder who's just outside of the Top 8 if that's the case.

EMP will have their revenge.

It is just an 8 man double elimination tournament? Lame.

Oh, I don't know what the format is. I'm saying they should do 8-man round-robin with top 4 advancing to a bracket, or two round-robin groups of 4 with top 2 in each group advancing to a bracket.

Round Robin is great, but too time consuming. (28 3/5 pool matches.)

Yeah, doing 8-man round robin is unlikely considering they're running two other games and will probably have only one stream. There's no reason they couldn't do 2 round-robin groups of 4 though. That would be 12 3/5 matches, followed by either 3 5/9 matches if it's a single elim bracket, or 4 or 5 3/5 matches if it's a double elim bracket. An 8-man double-elim bracket is 14 or 15 matches, so this format wouldn't take very much longer.

Though since Filipino Champ made it in, the Marvel event will take 7 hours regardless of format.

Yeah, I didn't vote for KBR because he's probably just gonna get bodied. But hey, maybe something wacky will happen.

I think its a pretty good list but Flocker not making in is a bit of a travesty. Just for variety sake there should've been one Zero player. Flocker also uses Hawkeye and he would've smoked people with that character.

This seems like a guaranteed FChamp vs ChrisG finals unless ChrisG uses C teams or if Nemo delivers on his promise.

Yep, and you can't make a exception for only Marvel either with their are two other games in this tournament. I think they're also planning to show every single match since it's a small pool for all 3 games so that can definitely fill up the 8-10 or so hours they plan on taking up. I would have loved a round robin as well for all 3, but that means we won't see half the matches. Not sure how cool the fan base would feel about that since this tournament is not only for the competing players, but the fans around the world as well.

my suggestion for tournament format:
2 groups of 4 players round robin
top 2 of each group go to winner brackets and the rest go to loser brackets.

I'm not questioning their decisions or their goals, though if I cared more about any of the games I probably would be, I'm just curious about who is actually in charge of deciding those things.
I hope Yipes fights KBR first round.
You definitely don't want random brackets here (or in any of them.)

I would go

Chris/FChamp
Yipes/Marlinpie/KBR/Abegen

Nemo
Yipes/Marlinpie
---------------------
Justin
KBR/Abegen

Chris/FChamp
Yipes/Marlinpie/KBR/Abegen

ChrisG vs FChamp first round is nuts. They are the two best players there. You never put the 2 best players against each other as the first round.
