I wouldn't pay anyone anything for any coaching in fighting games.

That money's probably better spent going to a dojo and learning some actual martial arts. And they probably charge a lot less too. lol.

I'm just laughing at the idea of it all. Color me impressed if this actually is successful but I doubt it.

Fighting games are pretty much heavily focused on dexterity, reflexes, memory, matchup experience, etc.

Having a 1 hour coaching session with anyone isn't going to do shit.

10 dollars an hour and you too can nearly take games off Chris G and take at least one game off Angelic in a casual set against his main team

I'm going to be cross-grained and subversive: I say this is a good idea outside the pricing. Seems like they're modeling it after fitness personal training rates - but the value in this type of training isn't comparable.

I don't think 25 dollars an hour is unreasonable at all, if the coaching is good, structured, and the client is serious about getting good at fighting games.

This is easy to dismiss if you're a cynic.

spend 500 dollars to be tutored by daigo. spend 2 hours playing him and getting bodied. you then ask him what you should do different. daigo thinks for a minute and turns to you and says "stop being bad" and walks away with your money.

Seriously now, I don't mind the idea of that tutoring, but the prices they're asking are too high.

Seriously, teaching anything (a school subject, guitar, games) is not something I would trust someone to do for money unless they had experience and structure.

and idk I feel anyone serious about learning games would realize the amount of free information they have at their fingertips through any major community site for any of these games

I feel this sort of thing just appeals to the lazy part in people that doesn't want to do all that on their own. Kinda like Gym PT sessions. Rather than reading all the free resources out there and putting together your own work out schedule and sticking to it, you pay someone else 50 dollars a session and he'll do all that for you. You just gotta show up on time and do it. but I mean at least a personal trainer is certified for his job.

I think they'd have better luck just charging people 50 dollars an hour for casuals at tournaments. That's the only good way most top players can teach people anything I feel. Just playing long sets and giving advice through that.

Is there any evidence to suggest they don't have people lining up for lessons? You had people willing to subscribe to things like FGTV...so yeah, I wouldn't be laying too many bets on what some people may or may not do.

Pretty much this, you just have to spend a lot of time playing against other people. You don't really need to play $50 for that. Things might even go better in a more casual and relaxed setting.

I'm just responding to Kimosabae's cynics comment by explaining why I think something like this has no real value.

There's someone in a group who will pay for anything though.

The larger the group you expose yourself to the more of those guys you have

No, people that compete on a World Class level would be worth it.

The real problem is that there isn't enough money in being good at fighting games to justify the cost.

While there is something to be said about people being lazy, you shouldn't dismiss the fact that researching things others that are more experienced than you already know can be a huge waste of time. Instead of learning the proper way to maximize your calorie intake while lowering your fat intake and optimizing your blah blah blah you could be working out and getting your ideal body because someone else has already put in the time.

Aren't most team sports built around having teams of trainers and whatnot around to keep the athletes in their best condition? Of course, there are usually millions and billions of dollars on the line for them.

God damn, I'm dying over here reading this. The FGC is too much sometimes. I get paid 20 bucks an hour to teach science that'll be fundamental to any kids future going into any science field but 50 bucks for fighting games? GG

You aren't a certified science teacher though, $20 is very good for your qualificiations.

$50 for FG lessons is god damn highway robbery.
