very impressive!

Kawazu hinted that they'd be including the Famicom original on the card for purists.Tabris said:I don't like it.
It's not faithful to either the original or Amano's art style.
I rather have an improved version of this:

This is what the character art of the SuperFami Final Fantaties look like.

Mihyaeru said:I know, Im just making a point. The better the system the closer you can get to the art style. Sometimes on the old system you HAD to make things a certain way so that you could see them. ect...
Deku said:The FFIII for DS doesn't have SD characters. The character design is closer to the ones seens on FFIX and FFCC. I don't see your point because there is none.
As for calls of Amano style playable characters, it's a wild expectation that will nver be fulfilled. All their characters are stylized one way or another.

Dragona Akehi said:They are technically SD, just not SD sprites. The proportions are definately not of this world.
Not unless we got a beautiful high-res 2D title. Which will never be. Even Amano's anime ends up being stylized differently from his original drawings.
Deku said:True, but that would also make FFVII and FFIX poly characters SD, it's a fine line. I'd say they're more heavily stylized.
That's because his drawings have too many lines and don't translate well in games or animationI think it will take a machine like the PS3 to faithfully recreate the look of his characters in 3-D or polygonal 2-D. But SE has stopped using him as their main character designer.

Jiggy37 said:You know, the first time I saw these shots, as impressive as they looked, I was a little put off by the CC style. But the more I think about it, the more it grows on me, because it's kind of reminiscent of Tales of Symphonia (third favorite standalone--non-Pokemon--game ever) in that if you're going to try to pull off an old-school 2D cutesy sprite style in 3D, SD proportions are the way to go. (As long as they're not hugely superdeformed like Powerpuff Girl Link in Wind Waker...)
Yeah, Wind Waker Link has been the coolest of out of all the Links in the Saga. He´s alive! Besides, FFCC style is awesome, indeed, the art direction was the best part of the game. Having such a beautiful art direction in this remake is good news undoubtelly.radioheadrule83 said:![]()

I've always wanted to see what that would look like since they announced the DS.empanada said:I'm imagining the touch screen being used to display the classic/original 2d view and menu system. It would rock being able to see the 3d and 2d versions at the same time.![]()
JoshuaJSlone said:I am pleasantly surprised. From the early talk of FF III being done in PS1 style I assumed that meant prerendered backgrounds, but that doesn't appear to be the case. Awesome.
I know there's already been bickering on several topics about how feasible FF VII would be on media of various size, but you're slightly overblowing it I think. Why the PC version would be so different I don't know, but looking at all the FF VII PS1 files other than the FMV, it adds up to 244 megabytes as is.
Yeeeah... but compared to FF V it's definitely a step backwards. You can change jobs, but there's no using skills earned from another job. The only thing you keep from previous jobs are whatever different stat gains you earned from level-ups while being that class. Also, the longer a character is a certain job, the less points it later takes for them to switch to that or a similar job. Of course, given the things they've done with FF 1 and 2, and that the game is already going over such an audio and visual overhaul, this could be tweaked.
I guess the shots are still not quality enough to tell for sure what's real-time and what's pre-rendered... but where you see a fixed camera and possible pre-rendering, I see simply shaped buildings with repetetive wall/tile/ground/grass textures.
...but, wasn't Kawazu taken off of the project recently? I could have sworn that's what JackFrost said, at least.jarrod said:Kawazu hinted that they'd be including the Famicom original on the card for purists.![]()
Hm, that's a rather odd claim, as Toshiyuki Itahana (FF:CC, Code Age: Commanders) was the character designer for FFIX, not Amano.etiolate said:eh, what FF game really has in game models that look like an Amano drawing? Maybe 9, but it's mostly been sprites or plastic dolls.
Humor here being that you just inadvertantly praised Nomura's work, as he was an enemy designer for the FF series prior to VII (V onward, IIRC). Whoops?Dragona Akehi said:(enemy sprites were looking much like his work)
Yeah, it does, which is kind of odd, as neither the character designer nor art director(s) of either of those titles are involved with this project... Instead, the character design is being handled by Akihiko Yoshida (FFT, FFTA, FFXII, Vagrant Story), and the art direction is being handled by Ryosuke Aiba (Chrono Cross, FFXI: Online).Deku said:The character design is closer to the ones seens on FFIX and FFCC.
