Haven't you people ever been into a bar or a pub where the female servers or bartenders wear more 'revealing' attire? Working for tips can do that.
I don't think there will be much changing of their designs via armor. Would take too much time.
But in 3D, it should make sense she has a more practical design for fighting that isn't a crop top and a skirt.
If they don't change it, it's no biggie.
I actually really want to agree with you on this point. But how she dresses in the Nibelheim flashback kind of undoes this argument

Let's just do what other JRPGs do and have the choice of clothing to wear. Want Tifa in her AC clothing? Have it. Cid dressed as Freya from FFIX? Have it. Cloud in a Dress? Have it.

The design I suggested earlier is what they wear. White t-shirts and either shorts underneath with a black apron over making it look like a skirt.

To compromise they could have her wear her iconic outfit and then change for the mission when it's time to head out. At the very least make her original design an optional costume to wear it's iconic.

Was already brought up a lot, it sounds like a PC version is still in talks.
Skort is the best option. The rest of Tifa's original design can be left alone. A white top with mid drift isn't the end of the world nor is that anywhere close to too revealing/sexualized. If we're going to complain about why Tifa is walking around in a shirt with mid drift exposed we need to also ask why Barrett is walking around in nothing but an unbuttoned green vest.

Nomura can go wild with costume alts for the characters in the REMAKE. It wont be as bad as Lightning Returns, even if he tried.

which then is immediately followed by her home being crushed by the plate collapsing
but either way. designs do not need to be justified in this way. There is nothing wrong with a skirt in a fantasy game

I just thought of something, since Sony is funding it they have a say in things right?. Maybe it will keep the team in line to get it out in a reasonable fashion? since they will be in their ear about development and a date.

I'm in for team original costumes. Tifa in Dissidia looked great.

Fully expecting its PS4 only out of the gate and then PC. Pretty sure Kagari said Sony is helping fund the game as well.
well considering what modern japan will likely do with fanservice, there kinda is
but ideally, a remake would also have VII's original cartoony style that would allow me to pass it off without thinking this looks dumb as hell

Yeah that seems most likely. As others have mentioned they are probably being cagey because it's not a done deal yet.
They've had no problem in past saying "console debut" when it's coming to other consoles later.

Its nice how FF7 started on PC and PS1 20 years ago, and now its on PS4 and PC 20 years later.

I really wish they would have her AC outfit as an alt somehow. That's my favorite outfit cause it just looks more like something you would wear during a fight without having to worry about pantyshots. And it just looks better design wise.

I was a huge fan of the original when it came out. Probably the biggest game of my childhood and I think the first game I ever preordered. But it's been such a long time since then and my tastes, especially when it comes to art style and design, have drastically changed.
Anyone else absolutely turned off by modern day Square designs like this? I mean Cloud just doesn't work for me in this realistic setting. His hair is omfg awful looking and I know it's a common thing to hear, but he does straight up look like a girl. While I really want to shake off this cynicism and be as blindly hopeful as I was in my youth, I have very little faith that I'll even pick up the game at this point. I wouldn't even mind if they used a cell-shaded, cartoon look. Anything but this please!
Anybody agree with me? I want to be excited and hyped but I just can't with girl Cloud.

Was already posted previously, and nothing is actually said by Sony aside from the "It's coming to us first".
The interviewer does a lot of assumptions based on the "PS4 first" mention, and it all most certainly relates to an upcoming PC version (which is all but eventually certain).
But again, we'll see. If it eventually comes down to XB1 I'll be surprised (given the Publishing history between Sony and FF7/S-E), but it won't remove anything from the PS4 (or PC) version anyway.

I don't have a problem with Cloud looking girly, lol, he's kinda mocked for it every now and then in the game. I just don't like the quiet/angst they added in with Advent Children and subsequent spin-offs. Hopefully he still has his youthful recklessness and cockiness to counter his aloofness.

No. Even the drawings of the characters in OG FF7 were androgynous.
His characterization however can't be so over the top as Advent Children did it.
He has to be cocky and arrogant and slowly lose his cool the more the story unfolds.

They might aim for something closer to Dissidia or Crisis Core Cloud which I'm hoping for.
I don't think looking like a girl should be some huge negative(it's actually kind of insulting to say) but when it's a distinct design that becomes suddenly more feminine and plastic looking, it's not good.
I just heavily dislike AC's designs for certain characters. Why Barret and Cid stay macho looking but Cloud and Vincent don't is weird.

I disagree. "Androgyny" should not be looked at as bad. They are effeminate, your masculinity should not be questioned because of a design.
