Final Fantasy 7 Remake Announced (First on PS4)

As long as it isn't hold square to win or you can only control one party member in battle then I'm cool with whatever they change to the battle system

And you can still enjoy that battle system:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/39140/

Not with the presentation of the remake if it goes in a different direction.

Unless of course some nice fans mod the PC version to work like that, in which case I'd be more willing to compromise.

I'll just say that if the actual game has writing on the same level as this trailer, it should be enough for everyone to buy it =X
I liked that line a lot.

But yeah, I'll post a here a list of all the games where Nomura worked on more than just character design that had turn-based/atb combat:
1-

He was the battle director for 7 and 8.

May not count, but there's also that one part of Kingdom Hearts Coded that's turn-based.

Not knocking your opinion, but "blinded by nostalgia goggles" is rarely a good argument. For a lot of people, the combat was absolutely a defining feature alongside the other defining features like the world, story progression, atmosphere, etc. I know people that played the game for the first time a few years ago and say the battles were some of the best parts.

But it wasnt...

FF VII could perfectly had another battle system, that meanwhile if was fun and had summoms, nobody would have complained about it not being how it is.

So, no. Battle defined nothing. Just a part of the package that was good, but no one says it couldnt be better.

Man the next few years will be great...just wait and see what sqenix can come up with before demanding this and that and being afraid of such and such.
Ultimately the company had a vision for the remake, otherwise they wouldn't have started the project.
All these years people were begging for a remake now it's "if they do this ill boycott", and "oh boy they better not touch this aspect..."
Like jeesh...

I found nothing on VII, but on VIII he was the battle visual director, not battle director (if you want to count that as more than character design, then I guess there will be one game on that list).

Further thinking about it, how would anybody here feel if...

1. They integrated Advent Children as a playable section of the game?

2. The set up a further Sequel beyond AC? Imagine where Denzel is grown up, following the footsteps of Cloud. Imagine an Older version of Cloud, grizzled and experienced like Auron.

Uggghh. The possibility.

For me Advent Children was unnecessary to begin with as I like to think that
humanity gets wiped of the earth
at the end of the game. And the movie was bad anyway.

Sure it wasn't the battle system that made FFVII the legendary game it is, since after all it has the same exact one as the previous and latter instalments with different sub-systems. However, the reason most people still prefer to have SE keep the battle system ATB is because turn-based JRPG is getting more rare and rare nowadays especially on the console medium and what FFVII had was actually pretty solid. Just need some modern touch up like the ability to skip long summon animation plus addressing the random encounter without some sort of encounter slider or making visible enemies on the field.

You bet if there were healthy amount of turn-based JRPG on the market right now, people would be less reluctant of changing the battle towards more action-based.

No it wasn't the exact same system. It brought about the limit break system and the materia system eliminated specific characters having specific roles during combat. It also brought about the ridiculous summons that were minutes long but looked insane.

And sorry you don't understand JRPGs at all if you say the battle system isn't important. It is one of the pillars of the entire game. Plenty of JRPGs have been killed by horrible battle systems. I mean you spend 90% of your time within that system, so if it isn't good it really makes it tough to finish. The story then has to be REALLY good

That's why I said, different sub-systems, thus making it quite different at the end of day. The core battle system is actually very, very similar however. Doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad thing, don't get me wrong.

The materia system has to stay, it's impossible to get rid of it without butchering the whole basis of the game. The materia system needs fixing so that it's not broken to fuck with overpowered dumbshit and the million glitches in the game need removing, W-Item especially.

I am not sure why people want an ARPG. We just got 3 in a row with FFXIII, XIII-2 and Lightning returns all action based and the enemies in the game would need adjusting if it were to be an ARPG. Nomura's comments concern me slightly because characters line up in FFXHD and they don't look silly in that game so why would it be silly in FFVII?

I don't mind either way. I'm concerned about other things. The original FFVII was ridiculously easy because of the bullshit that can be done with the materia and I hope above all else that crap gets fixed. Also fix the KOTR summon, NO WAY should we be able to obtain that summon as soon as we can with the power it as to 1 shot anything in the game outside of Emerald, Ruby and Sephiroth and it can be spammed to beat those 3 as well, as well as the battle arena.

^ FF7 was on PC and PS1 back 20 years ago, it'll be the same here eventually.

After everything is said and done, the only thing i really want Nomura and whomever is apart of this project to do is to follow what they want to make for this version of FF7.

Don't worry about external forces or 'living up to fan interpretation', it'll just end up with people unhappy anyway, that's inevitable. Just stay the course and do what you imagined for a FF7 remake.

Whatever comes out is what we get.

this guy?

he seems pretty chill.

All I want from the battle system is to be given control of the entire party.

I don't mind if there's A.I. involved as long as I'm allowed to switch between party members whenever I want.

While FF XV's approach is interesting, FF VII gave me control over an entire party, each of them have their own limit breaks, and the remake needs to allow me to kick ass with any of those characters.

Whatever they do, turn based or action oriented, that is all I demand them to do.

As for the rest, Nomura stated that they want to make the game better than the original. So I'm confident the core of the experience from the original will be present.

Same here. I know it's a remake but if you want a unique final product you need to follow the division of the developers, not the expectations of the fans. It might end up worse but that's really not the end of the world. Just try to make the project interesting.

Definitely not Jenova. It's been dead for centuries. Sephiroth is in full control of Jenova's cells.

So either Sephiroth or Hojo.

This.

Sure, you fight Jenova a few times but the one in control of the whole thing via the lifestream etc was Sephiroth.

I see Hojo as Big Bad No 2 because he was trying to help his son and was bat shit crazy and even though you fight Jenova she, or it, was probably never in full control of what was going on and as a cosmic virus she had pretty much died when the Cetra imprisoned her.

One of Jenova's abilities was mind control, if I remember correctly.

my wishlist for ff7r:

-lots of qte's
-redone soundtrack
-new playable characters
-reimagined story
-keep the random battles
-FFXV battle system

i hope nomura reads this

There's the thread about what moments need to remain, but realistically what do you think will go?

I think the goofy Cloud in wheelchair sequence will just be him in a hospital bed in Mideel. I also don't expect Fort Condor to have a minigame, but maybe.

A good amount of enemies will certainly disappear they simply cant make ~ 100 different enemie models like in the past i would be to expensive i think.
I just hope they keep some weird ones

QTE? Seriously?

The only thing I worry is square won't be able to re create the atmosphere of using pre rendered backgrounds into a full on 3d world.

As you posted in the other thread, the one guy in the Shinra Mansion that swings on a giant blade is my favorite. Some of his animations are hilariously overdramatic.

I just started Disc 2 before calling it quits for the night. An immaculately paced game that still holds my rapt attention on what has to be my 6th or 7th playthrough (lost count). It's been 6 years since I've played it last.

Relax you guys. That was obviously a joke. If lots of QTE doesn't already give it away, FFXV doesn't even have random encounters.

Yeah pretty funny enemie especially if you manage to drop his ass down and stop missing your attacks, how it tries to get back up awww ^^
The last two times i played was with the tifa bootleg mod but this time i go "classic" :)

I cba playing ff 7 original again. I get bored after 30 minutes and have purposefully avoided playing it for years in hope of a remake.

I want to watch AC again and last order now though.
