Love the fact that the "Loveless" thing comes from a single screen in FF7 but Nomura managed to make it a big deal to make another "Sepiroth badass" no one ever cared before... because he never existed in FF7.

What a waste of time...

Been away for a week and a half. Any new hints at what the battle system may or may not be?

We wont get any new information until this winter, but this is probably going to be an action RPG.

Its directed by Tetsuya Nomura (who makes action RPGs) and im 99% sure Cyberconnect2 is helping develop it (they make action games). But like i said, we wont know anything new until this winter.

Haven't we gone around and around already with that? There seems to be just as much evidence that it could go the other way (and also no solid evidence CC2 is playing more than an incidental role if that).

I was watching ign anime club and they were talking about how the story is a convoluted cluster f***

When i play ff7 i was too young to understand or care. I just liked the gameplay

With that being said... anyplace i can go to get a better understanding of the story?

I actually enjoyed it. Sure, I disliked the whole "He also has an angel wing!" thing, but a villain that is obsessed with the story of a book to the point of trying to recreate it in the most twisted way, I really liked that.

Sure, he is Gackt.
Sure, he is a discount Sephiroth.

But I at least liked what they tried to pull. Genesis is at least more original and interesting than Sephiroth. Well, at least I found his motivation more interesting than the cliched "I shall become a god!!" that we usually get on JRPG's.

These discussions about Luminous are...upsetting. That engine is trash, just like Crystal Tools. The sooner S-E moves all the way on to UE4, the sooner I can get the S-E that had the output of the SNES/PS1 era. The era of "every game has a different engine" is pretty much over, and with consoles kinda losing the battle to mobiles, I'm for as many shortcuts as possible that don't hurt the game overall, save money, and allow quick development times.

Because there aren't any, because the other game that was supposed to be showing off the technology (KH3) switched to UE4 because Luminous isn't any good.

It's 2015, we live in a brave new world where games built with middleware are consistently more attractive than those without and Square-Enix leadership is trying to make decisions that make sense.

It's also a fallacy that Square can't continue to pursue graphics R&D if they move to a 3rd party engine. UE4 licensees get the source code and are free to modify it as they see fit. The KH3 team ported their stylized rendering tech to it. Hell, Lionhead implemented Light Propagation Volumes(same tech FFXV uses) in UE4 so Fable Legends could have dynamic global illumination.

All UE4 will do for Square is provide an excellent starting point for their games. They'll still have their engine devs and R&D team working with them, but instead of reinventing the wheel every time, they can focus on pushing things forward with new tech.

And in the case of FF7, you need to look no further than Epic's Infiltrator tech demo to see that it could handle the look of the remake no problem: https://youtu.be/dO2rM-l-vdQ

Regardless of how one feels about compilation or the original FF7, IGN usually has things wrong. I mean, they are the ones that suggested Aerith stay alive in the FF7 remake after all

I just started FFVII as a PS1 Classics on my PS3 last week. The game is amazing, can't believe I have been holding out so long to play it.

Even more excited for the remake now knowing I am loving the original FFVII

What do you all think about Angeal though? You'll think they'll mention him at all, possibly in relation to h Buster Sword?

I hope not, I don't want any mention of anything having to do with the Compilation in the Remake, because it was pretty much all crap, and anything that was good can certainly be done much better.

Indeed. For a company that's invested in developing their own rendering techniques and graphical flourishes, far and away the best way to do that today is to start with a basis like UE4 that provides the core renderer and an expansive toolset, then build custom in-house technology on top of that.

One of the few good things and one that was done very well in the Compilation was the story expansion on the Turks. They were all fleshed out and well done. Especially Cissnei in CC.

I thought Angeal had... redeemable elements to his character. However I was kind of disappointed with how they went about the whole buster sword being given to Zack by Angeal thing. Felt forced. Angeal's character being fairly 1 dimensional anyway so that didn't help.

Genesis could've been a much better character but instead he was a shitty Sepiroth Expy who's attempts at being made sympathetic only highlighted how much of a prick he was. Perhaps had he not been the reason for every bad thing to happen ever and he showed a little self awareness it could've been tolerable.

The strange thing about Loveless is, if you see the poster of the girl attached to it, it makes the play seem like it's some modern-set production. When you hear the lines Genesis quote in Crisis Core, it makes it seem like it's a play set in the medieval era(or, at least, Shakespearean era).

You know what they need to clarify in Remake? Cait Sith.

So the cat that rides around on the giant stuffed moogle (?)
is actually an advanced AI robot that may or may not have his own personality. How are there not more AI then, seems like this should be a huge deal? Plus the VII universe doesn't seem advanced enough for this kind of thing
.

He's also
controlled by Reeve at Shinra HQ who sometimes communicates with the party and sometimes Cait Sith moves on his own at points when it's impossible for Reeve to be controlling him
.

I mean, he's already one of a kind in the FFVII world, but it's going to be so bizarre with these realistic graphics and risks coming off really hokey if not done just right. Cait Sith needs to stay though, hope they don't cut him just because he's too hard to "get right" and just make him an NPC.

Angeal sucked. He was boring and I just wanted Zack to the only main Buster sword owner. Like it simply be something passed down in Zack's family. Crises Core was ok, but it would've been 100x better with just Zack and Sephiroth being buds.

In Advent Children, Reno is a funny sidekick.

In FF 7, Reno activated the bomb that destroyed two sectors and killed thousands of people. Oh and Jesse, Wedge and Biggs are killed too.

In Advent Children, Reno is a funny sidekick and everyone is happy about it. Even Barett. Loosing his friends and lots of people isn't a big deal, you know.

I might think that Advent Children is the worst movie I've ever seen just because of this.

I can only assume that with the world almost being destroyed and Avalanche themselves not being angels and responsible for many deaths, that the whole Reno situation was brushed off. I do hope the Remake addresses this ( and Tseng living, cause I missed how that happened) and honestly, I wouldn't mind more Turk parts added either. They were pretty awesome characters.

Even in the original game, the Turks somehow became comic relief characters as the game progressed, especially once they included Elena. This never bothered me too much.

You even had the choice to make peace with them instead of fighting them near the end of the game.

From what I've heard, it's a translation thing. Elena's line in the JP version when you meet her in the snow village supposedly makes it more obvious that Tseng was only wounded and not killed.

Yeah that's basically my thoughts on it as well. "Hey remember that one readable English sign in the FF opening? Let's make it A THING". (and not a good one)

In a similar vein to that, I think the very literal interpretation of "One Winged Angel" to a few Nomura designs also pissed me off because of how impractical and biologically nonsensical one wing would be.... But again, an excitable Nomura was like "HEY PEOPLE LIKE THAT SONG LET'S MAKE DESIGN OF IT"

Ugh, the One Winged Angel stuff is the worst.

Nomura doesn't know what subtlety means. That's his greatest strength and weakness to me.

Yeah. I mean you even work together with the Turks so save your teammates. The translation mistake makes sense, although now I question the scene with Aeris( or Aerith whatever) where she is busy crying instead of just healing Tseng.

Maybe the poster is a modern remake.

They really should only focus on everything thats in the original game no compilation or movie crap whatsoever ...
FF7 is big enough already and that rufus and tseng dont survive in the game but later in a crappy movie and fanfic they do is stupid and has NOTHING to do with the original game.
After midgar gets blasted you don't find rufus ANYWHERE in the whole world he is dead his final "look" at the camera even makes it seem like he knows and accepts it.
Dont even get me started on tseng like his whole body got cut in half by a seph clone...
seriously leave the crappy fanfic out :/

It's not a fanfic... It was written by the same writer as FFVII, Kazushige Nojima.

Also Tseng was never cut in half, wtf. He got stabbed but his body stayed "whole", and in the Japanese version it was clear that he was wounded, not dead.

its fanfic in that its completely different to the original game or are we now pretending tidus kicking a bomb and dying should be seriously part of a ff10 remake its the same crap people write crap all the time..
Of course they cant show him being cut in two lol but tseng got sliced through his whole body and not just stabbed don't make me post a vid.

Off topic: Yes,we totally should due to the sheer hilariousness of it. I'm sorry, but that fully entertained me.

Ok you got me ^^ cant argue with that i mean yeah if we piss of hardcore ff7 fans with stupid changes .. yeah why not piss off ff10 fans too with stupid stuff :P

I thought that wasn't canon? and honestly the audio drama of X-2.5 is such a mess. I prefer to not acknowledge it.
It was only nice to get a glimpse of what everyone was up to.

"Tidus dies after kicking a blitzball that was actually a bomb. Afterwards, his head comes off due to the explosion and lands next to Yuna which causes her to pass out. Tidus is later revived through pyreflies."
yep cant wait for the fan reactions if we ever get a remake.
Of course this is several levels more silly than most of the stuff that the original FF7 has now to deal with but that doesn't excuse to shove every past attempt at milking the FF7 brand into the original masterpiece :) just my opinion. There is a reason why REmake is awesome because... its a remake.
