I don't understand why people would be upset over the biological practicality of one wing in a game where you summon giant flying hell beasts and weild 6 foot long swords.

Initially I would have said keep anything beyond the original distant from FFX but....... that Tidus explosion death. I need it.

I don't have a problem with Tidus or anything(he's likable enough) but that shit is too funny. Make it canon, Square.

I was watching ign anime club and they were talking about how the story is a convoluted cluster f***

When i play ff7 i was too young to understand or care. I just liked the gameplay

With that being said... anyplace i can go to get a better understanding of the story?

That was amusing to hear on an anime panel.

I think they might be subconsciously mixing in the compilation anyway. FFVII isn't really that hard to understand.

Well for me, the problem wasn't because it is biologically impossible, but it loses all the subtlety of 'one winged angel' by literally making it so.

The strange thing about Loveless is, if you see the poster of the girl attached to it, it makes the play seem like it's some modern-set production. When you hear the lines Genesis quote in Crisis Core, it makes it seem like it's a play set in the medieval era(or, at least, Shakespearean era).

I always thought it was advertising My Blood Valentine doing a Loveless in full gig...

They really should only focus on everything thats in the original game no compilation or movie crap whatsoever ...
FF7 is big enough already and that rufus and tseng dont survive in the game but later in a crappy movie and fanfic they do is stupid and has NOTHING to do with the original game.
After midgar gets blasted you don't find rufus ANYWHERE in the whole world he is dead his final "look" at the camera even makes it seem like he knows and accepts it.
Dont even get me started on tseng like his whole body got cut in half by a seph clone...
seriously leave the crappy fanfic out :/

Tseng was never stated to be dead. In fact, in the original japanese version Elena states that Tseng is just injured.

Loveless... loveless... loveless... loveless... loveless... loveless...

Love the fact that the "Loveless" thing comes from a single screen in FF7 but Nomura managed to make it a big deal to make another "Sepiroth badass" no one ever cared before... because he never existed in FF7.

What a waste of time...

I'll be really disappointed if the remade OST doesn't consist entirely of shoegaze covers.

I feel like the compilation made the FF7 universe feel so much smaller, instead of enlarging it. Things like "loveless" for example should have stayed just a little piece of the universe, not something overly referenced or turned into some great poetry crap. Instead the self referencing and over playing of the small stuff in games like CC makes the whole world feel TOO connected, kinda like the Star Wars syndrome of having a huge galaxy but all you do in considerate on making everyone and there mom connect and know each other.

Sometimes things need to just be left alone so there is some mystery or "extra soul" in the universe that goes unexplained, un-elaborated on and just left there to show "hey this universe has media and culture and things happening beyond your scope as the player".

Sometimes meaningless stuff can make all the difference in immersion.

I think that was just the sensationalist headline that sites decided to run. In reality, the quote the headlines are based on says this.

Considering we know they have been in pre-production for around a year now, my guess is he just wasn't fully aware of his official role way back then.

But that isn't as fun of a headline as "Director of FF7 Remake didn't even know he was the director!? *Boing*"

Edit: Beaten by Inuhanyou. I just had to go find that boing sound effect didn't I?
What confused Nomura to begin with, was watching Kitase's heavy involvement. He was so hands on with the project, Nomura thought it was clear he was going back to the directors chair.

Good point. It wouldn't have been a problem if the Compilation had added brand new stuff unrelated to FFVII, but no, they just had to connect everything to FFVII... I think the only thing that doesn't connect to FFVII is that Minerva deity in Crisis Core. But that was tonally very weird.

I'd have been down for a distant prequel involving Red XIII's father.

i really hope the remake completely embraces the silliness that's perpetually present throughout the entire game.

the game is like 40% a comedy, embrace the cheese.

^ They are gonna make it 85% serious with some comedic elements is my guess to give some nods to the original.

Making it goofball with the actual subject matter of the plot(class warfare, genocides of entire populations, terrorism, tons of death) would be ridiculous. They could get away with it 20 years ago because of the limitations of the HW and the none realistic nature of the characters, but it would never fit with compilation and the heavier tone intepreted afterward.

So how would you guys prefer Red's voice to be like?

Give him a Scooby doo accent, turn the game into a comedic horror mystery with all the gang.

Never heard of this Tidus bomb thing before but its given me a good lols!

Ya can see Loveless posters during the return to Midgar on disc 2 and on disc 3 Cid talks about the play itself alil. It may be minor but Loveless is present across all 3 discs of the original game!

Excellent point. I think this is the problem with a lot of sequels - they just want to remind you of the thing you originally loved without doing the work to make something new you might also love, and they cannibalize their own world building.

So how would you guys prefer Red's voice to be like?

Hopefully calm and intelligent. Favorite video game character ever.

For the record.

Clouds voice actor from AC and Crisis Core was on point. Unfortunately AC made him so emo.

Errbody knows Barrett is like Mr. T

Cid like Mathew Mconahey

Tifa, Vincent (I think), and Aeris from AC were pretty spot on.

Nobody cares what Cait Sith sounds like :)

As long as they aren't all Vanille I'll be good. Luckily, the tone from the trailer looked perfect. Will SE finally nail the one thing it has yet to do right? Ehhh

i wonder when we will hear about that new FF7 Spin-off Verendus was talking about (AA Game - nice surprise)

before or after the Remake

I honestly wonder if we might get FFVII-2 after the remake - like, maybe part of the point of the remake is to create the groundwork for the sequel. It would certainly help with the whole issue of how huge the game will need to be if the work that goes into it can also help with the following game. Isn't the existence of FFXIII-2 and LR partly due to them being cheaper to make once FFXIII was finished?

There's already 7-2, its called Advent Children. Unless your saying it takes place after that? But Cloud and the gang's story is supposedly finished right? It would have to include Genesis and all that baggage...

Or work around all that by having a sequel focussing on new / side characters. I wouldnt mind a game set in the FF7 world, with some nice references to FF7/AC here and there.

They could always disregard the Compilation and do whatever they want. Actually, they should just do that.

'Don Corneo - How I rebuild my pimping empire after the destruction of Sector 7'

It should take place after Dirge of Cerberus's story arc given the secret ending and what's left beyond it.

I hope FF7r it's just the start of a new compilation btw, I can't get enough of this universe, world, lore and characters T.T

I want to say one of the reasons the FFXIII sequels were made was to recoup all of the development money Square spent on the project, specifically for making the Crystal Tools engine. We don't know which engine FFVII is using yet, but unlike FFXIII it'll be using an engine that already exists.

Stil... if you sell 5-8 millions of FF7r it would be dumb for a company to not make another entry following it considering all the assets ready and all.

I really dislike the Loveless thing in Crisis Core. It was kinda annoying because it was overstated for something "small turned important" in the FFVII universe.

It's kinda like making FFIX Grandma (where you use Vivi to steal her 9 gil savings at the start of the game) the deuteragonist and making her 9 gil savings stolen as a life changing experience that the game focuses on.

Yeah, I mean something taking place after the Compilation. DoC is the most recent entry in the FFVII story (not including the '500 years later' scene) and it ends on a cliffhanger, though Gackt no longer working with Square may mean they'll just ignore it. That said, there's another thing - Advent Children established that Sephiroth is not truly dead, and I'm pretty sure he wasn't supposed to have been permanently killed at the end. It seemed more like he just possessed Kadaj and was beaten out of him, and he's still in the Lifestream, plotting. I may be wrong, but I feel like FFVII-2 has been a long time coming.

Yep. SE added baggage to the Compilation for no good reason, and none of it really paid off.

Hopefully Nomura's simplified some since that era, and we don't see Genesis or Denzel or any of that garbage running around in VIIr.

Morgan fucking freeman.

As for the other cast members, the MLP team have some serious voice acting chops, and I am not even joking, I would love to see some of them involved with this project. Michelle Crebber (Applebloom) would be able to induce death by cuteness by voicing Marlene, and I believe that Nicole Oliver (Celestia) could be a tremendous Tifa.

When does voice work start in a FF game?. If this has been in production since last year it will be two years by the end of this year.

I ask because shouldn't they by now or close to the 3rd year would be tracking down the voice actors?. I am pretty sure they have an idea on who to use and will most likely be those who appeared in AC and Dissidia.

Long shot here but I would absolutely love for them to get Mandy Moore back as Aerith. I'm playing KH1 again and was surprised at how good she sounded. Guess I'd gotten used to Mena Suvari's (frankly pretty bad) performance. Andrea Bowen was okay I guess.

Maybe it's down to voice direction, idk, but I liked Mandy's voice a lot better than both of her later voices.

Completely agree. She was actually a really fantastic Aerith.

I thought Mandy Moore was a good Aerith, but she was barely in the game, she holds no real 'connection'. to FF7. On the other hand, i would not mind at all if her Crisis Core actor came back, that would be great. I think a majority of the FF7 actors are likely to come back if they played some part in compilation.

Your saying Nomura created compilation just so he could ignore his own expanded fiction later? Lol. Never happening.

People have to accept that Compilation is apart of the FF7 world for good, regardless of how they may feel about individual portions.

Eh, i dunno. Maybe. Cloud never boned Tifa(on screen) so maybe they would come back to some small elements left dangling. I'm not really sure it would be worth it though.
