Do you have to create an account with square enix to play the game? And does it have their drm integrated into it? How does all of that work? I've noticed that for ports of previous instalments some users have talked about issues with this,

There's nothing in the launcher or game that suggests it does, although with the caveat that I -did- jump through that hoop previously (FFVII or FFXIV, can't remember) so maybe my steam ID is tied to a Squeenix ID or something.

I mean, you could get it, download it and then refund it if it hits you with a login page, heh. But no, I didn't see anything related to Square Enix accounts.

Does not know about DRM, but you don't need to create account, just choose resolution from launcher and you ready to play.

Thanks for the info guys.

Touch screen doesn't work too well for this, unfortunately. Right-click for cancel is cumbersome and there's no way to bring up the main menu or anything else. I'd need to setup some macros to make this possible.

Ha-ha, really?

Yeah, I usually go to 300 if I can be bothered because you get a few cards from this minigame (though they're not exclusive to it), but I've never bothered getting 1000 for the key item.

Edit: Huh, 18% of people on Steam already have the 1000 jumps achievement. Is there some hax going on here?

Surprise-surprise, its Unity engine remake/remaster, that's why your Xbox one controller may not work in win10.

Yeah, all Steam achievements can be hacked just by downloading Steam Achievement Manager and ticking a box.

Probably the percentages didn't update yet since the release and at the moment only devs stats count.

But isn't that why they have XInputDotNetPure.dll in there?

"just think, it could be worse if it wasn't there"

"must be the android plugins we didn't download"

Pick your poison.

don't hurt me lol

Hopefully it can / will be fixed, controller is the only way to play for me.

For what it's worth, there were controller issues on the mobile version(s) that eventually got fixed.

I mean, to be fair, none of the achievement systems are secure as a CFW PS3 can unlock trophies, Vita could using the email app exploit and 360 can with a hard drive or memory card reader. It's just that the hoops someone would have to go through to do that are greater, so you don't see it as much.

Is this the first PC old-FF release that didn't have an original PC release? FF7 and 8 both had PC versions.

The game seems to think I'm using an Xbox controller, because it's using Xbox button icons in prompts (such as the stage fight). But I'm actually using a DS4 with DS4Windows.

Anyone seen a way to change this (or know if the assets for PS buttons exist at all in the files)?

Yes, which is probably for the best. Those old Eidos ports weren't awesome.

There are two types of people - the ones who have something to prove w.r.t. gaming, and the ones who view achievements as simply another form of frivolous yet enjoyable hobbies like collecting stamps, etc.

Doesn't really matter what other people do or don't do - only thing that matters is what you get out of it, really.

It's not like one day you're gonna walk up to a job interview and then present a printout of your gaming trophies or something.

Any improvements on battle loading times? That would be my n.1 reason to get this version lol.
(also, did they improve the battle framerate?)

You can both specifically turn off the battle flyover at the start, and fast forward, which solves that.

Battle framerate, incl. camera movement is still as low-FPS as the original incarnation, but for what it's worth UI things like ATB and damage numbers refresh at a much higher rate (lol)

Same here! Just waiting on somebody to report back on this. People even disliked load times on the Android version.

Edit:nvm! Solved just above. Thank you Falk!

Isn't that the point of DS4Windows? Makes the controller appear to games as an xinput one, not directinput (or something)?

Well, anyway, controller works fine otherwise I guess? Cause I'm not playing the game on keyboard, no sir. VII had shit controller support iirc, never got any of my controllers to work fine with it.

The only thing, aside from a lack of finance, that is holding me back from putting the full price is the backgrounds but I completely forgive them for that since the original assets have been lost. Will pick it up on a sale as I've wanted to replay this forever.

I think that the upscales done in the battles look really nice from what I've seen. I remember when I played this game on the PS1 and the graphics still to this day amaze me as something the PS1 pulled off. Primarily for the beautiful spell and summon effects which were spectacular for the time. And now they should be done a bit more justice with enhanced effects.

When I first saw the Holy spell, my jaw dropped at the time. To me this was PS2 level graphics. I'll never forget it. Then again on Flare, then again on Flare Star.

Yes, that's the point of DS4 Windows.

If you want PS4 icons, presuming a game supports them, you need to turn off DS4 Windows, or hope the devs put in an option for it. Given like only 2 or 3 games have given the option, it's not very common.

Any details on the game boosters, like a list? Are they immediately available?

All of them are available as soon as the game starts. There's 4 you can activate anytime (speed boost, always full HP/MP/trance, always max damage, and no encounters), and 3 you activate from the options menu (max level/stones, master abilities, and max gold). The latter three cannot be undone.

The timing of this is perfect since Microsoft just rolled back a driver update for the Xbone controller on Win10 with the KB3147458 update. The original update fixed most if not all problems relating to Unity engine and xinput (but had some sideeffects for some people), but now the issues are back.

If you are on Windows 10 and are trying to use xbone controller and seeing an issue where the cursor will automatically highlight the US button on the left, uninstalling KB3147458 will fix that problem at least. Can't say how well the rest of the game goes, it seems fiddly. Lots of button presses are registering twice, or that's what it feels like anyway.

Steam controller works great though, and someone already made a config that reverses the confirm and cancel buttons.

Despite not really caring about earning trophies for myself I still don't like the existence of SAM as for me the most interesting thing about achievements is the overall percentages. What percentage of players reached the mid way point of a game, beat the final boss etc. Knowing those stats are all inflated ruins that somewhat.

Ah yeah, that's definitely true from a statistics collection standpoint

So does squareenix do good sales on this types of games on steam's big sales sooner than later, or they usally go for 25-15% at most?

Saying this becuase I have a huge backlog right now, but the game 20% off becuase its on release, and would incite me to get it now.

I could see it being 50% off during the Summer Sale. That's around what most Final Fantasy games get.

Given that the Jump Rope one has gone from 18 percent to 5 percent in like an hour I don't think SAM has THAT much of a skewing effect. It'll probably be down to like 1 percent or lower by tomorrow.

Edit: It's already down to .4 percent.
