For someone who has never played FFIX:

Does the game still hold up? Is it good?
It's a great game with good story and heart. Lots of humor too, something that is not always the case with FF games.

Play in a window or on your smartphone if the low-res stuff puts you off.

So 7 and 8 got around that then?

Will wait if thats true, dotn realy have time to play it right now, as much as I love it.

I remember either during or right after last year's E3 they had a big sale on everything because of FFVIIR hype and whatnot. They'll most likely have another big sale this year too.

For someone who has never played FFIX:

Yes.

FF IX is the best game in the series.

And double yes.

The timing of this is perfect since Microsoft just rolled back a driver update for the Xbone controller on Win10 with the KB3147458 update. The original update fixed most if not all problems relating to Unity engine and xinput (but had some sideeffects for some people), but now the issues are back.

If you are on Windows 10 and are trying to use xbone controller and seeing an issue where the cursor will automatically highlight the US button on the left, uninstalling KB3147458 will fix that problem at least. Can't say how well the rest of the game goes, it seems fiddly. Lots of button presses are registering twice, or that's what it feels like anyway.

Steam controller works great though, and someone already made a config that reverses the confirm and cancel buttons.

Thanks for this. Uninstalling that update fixed "repeatedly moving left" issue. Got new problems now though, like "pause" registering twice. And thus not pausing at all. Perhaps I should try a DS4 controller...

I'm a huge fan, and I love the look of the general visuals in the videos I've seen, but one question keeps coming up in my head.

Can you scale down the UI in battles? The huge, blobby, clearly mobile-ported battle menu really takes away from the drama of the fights.

If it's not scaleable by default, is there any likelihood of someone modding it, or is that technically impossible?

I've got an OT ready, should I post it now?

No one has claimed FFIX mobile/Steam OT, so go ahead.

Can consolidate discussions of the two there since they're essentially the same release. These two threads (plus the android/iOS release thread) were pretty much new news, new thread deals.

Given that the Jump Rope one has gone from 18 percent to 5 percent in like an hour I don't think SAM has THAT much of a skewing effect. It'll probably be down to like 1 percent or lower by tomorrow.

Edit: It's already down to .4 percent.

In this case it probably wasn't SAM as much as it is X out of Y testers/devs making sure the cheevo worked or some such.

And yeah, SAM generally doesn't really skew results all too much. There are some communities revolving around achievement hunting but they self-police to the point of obsession.

I keep reading the reviews for these games and everyone keeps complaining that they are mobile ports. What about mobile makes them bad? Weird menus with large text or something?

  1. Weird-ass font and menu design.
  2. Usually poorly optimized.
  3. Input problems coming from touch interface to mousing around.
  4. Weird resolutions.

This is the single issue blocking me from hitting buy. I want it so much but those menus are ugly.

Also they take up the lower 35% of the screen in battles, if not a little more.

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
The main reason I'm happy this finally happened is that they can now announce the FFXII:I:ZJS port :p

FTFY. You're welcome. When's FF12, Square?

ANYWAY: FF9 is too overpriced (IMO) to pick it up right now. It should honestly be in the $10 range given how old it is. Yes, yes, "rework"-ing it and all that. But it's still a late port.

I think I have it worse...

I just wrote them a ticket about this. They probably won't fix it but who knows... perhaps the right person will get the ticket and decide to fix this since it would only take up to 10-30 minutes, right?

I received an answer:
Dear Davide,

Thank you for contacting the Square Enix Support Centre.

Thank you for contacting us in regards to our games on Steam!

We have passed this feedback on to the relevant departments in order for this to be considered. We appreciate the time that you have taken to bring this to our attention.

Please let us know if you require any assistance and we will be happy to help.

Kind regards,

The Square Enix Support Centre team

Well they said the same thing when I report them FFV's Steam Cloud bug and nothing happened.

Bought and downloaded, booted it up just to take a look at for a few minutes... why does it keep thinking my controller is trying to go left at all times??

If you're on W10 and using an XBO controller, there's some issues. Plugging in the controller after launching the game seems to fix it.

Do the battles still have the issue where the ATB is running all the time so every time you pick a command you're getting in line behind three other people who have already picked their commands but are waiting for their turns to play out?

This was not a bug, so most likely yes.

That's not an issue, that's really good actually.

I really hated this about the battle system. The animations were too slow for the ATB speed.

It was a huge flaw in the original because it made you spend most of the time waiting. You could go up, get a snack, come back and still be waiting for your last command to go through. Maybe it's more playable now with a speed up function.

Now imagine if you had to wait the first character attack to even choose an action for the next character.

Edit:
Iirc u could press triangle to switch to another character and have them act before another chara's action

Yeah, this too. It was never an issue.
