Despite not really caring about earning trophies for myself I still don't like the existence of SAM as for me the most interesting thing about achievements is the overall percentages. What percentage of players reached the mid way point of a game, beat the final boss etc. Knowing those stats are all inflated ruins that somewhat.

I wouldn't put top much stock into SAM, the percentages generally seem to be accurate and the top achievement are generally below 1%. There isn't rampant use to throw of statistics.

Some early impressions:

It's basically exactly what I expected: the mobile version wrought large for the PC. The menu interface is slightly different, not scaled as large as in the mobile version.

But it's otherwise the same awesome redone character models and the same low-res background art with just a little bit of filtering done to make it not quite as messy (but still pretty messy). Supports resolutions up to 2556x1440 and makes full use of that in the newly rendered parts. Not just the character models but also the menu icons and the TT cards are all redrawn.

It feels a hell of a lot snappier and quicker to load than the original. Remember: turn on "Skip Battle Camera" in the options and it eliminates the pan over the battlefield at the start of all but boss battles. Also make sure you turn the Battle Speed slider to max. Do both, and you should have no complaints about speed even without using the 3x option.

I'm sure a lot of people are going to whine about the background art, but realistically this port is, I feel, better than I would have expected. It's certainly a nicer PC port than what FFVII and VIII got.

The option to skip the spanning camera will be very nice, but it won't affect the actual battle much, neither would the 3X speed even tbough I'll use it. The main issue was the action's being queued in a way that when choosing to execute a command sometimes meant waiting a long time before your actions took place. I could choose to use a potion on someone but by the time the other enemies and allies completed their action in order for the potion to be used either the user or the recipient could be dead. Same for attacking specific enemies. Most games when you choose an action it's done straightaway as you press the button. This games queueing system is messed up though in a way that makes battles feel slower than they actually are since it takes so long for an action to be taken.

No speed up options will fix that fundamental flaw. The battle system as a whole would need redesigning. So complaints and so called whining will still happpen. Still looking forward to this though. I immediately stopped a playthrough in the middle of disc 2 I had going when I first heard the news.
