I never knew FF7 was available on DD. I can't do the actual purchase from work, but anyone know of a reason to NOT buy this? (DRM, etc.).

Imagine the worst DRM ever. Then make it even worse. You have to authenticate TWICE (once during installation and once when you LOG IN to the Square Enix servers, just to play a decades old game you can play on the PS3 with far less obtrusive DRM.

Honestly, if you have to play it on PC, you're probably better off just finding an old copy off eBay.

DRM, Midi music are the 2 big ones I guess. I bought it when it came out and had some issues from time to time with the cloud saves which was annoying as hell.

Heard the servers went down for this game last time it went on sale, so the streamer I was watching couldn't load their save. Very disappointing. And yeah something noticeably off about the music, it's not just something for audiophiles to point out.

I do believe there's a FF7 PC audio fix. Of course its silly that you should have to find one, but I think it does exist.

There is one, you simply have to switch the audio files in the root folder of the game.

It's kinda sad that SE didn't do it themselves, but hey, at least there is way to get the exact PSX music.

Not touching this port with the kind of DRM it has, especially for such an old game I already own on other platforms.
Release a DRM-free version (or at if it has to have DRM, Steamworks) and I'll pick it up at some point. Extra points for a GOG version with extra stuff (OST, wallpapers, guides and artwork).

Quite inferior overall, sounds cheaper, especially if you're used to the original tracks.

Would it be better running the PS1 version on emulators? I have the original discs and a decent PC

There are mods for music and widescreen. Lots of the other changes can range from sloppy(prerender cg will always look bad) to silly(bunny outfits) Most of the mods are not a "must play", and can break the game.
