Final Fantasy VII PS4 |OT| One last time before the remake

Put an hour into the game playing it for my first time. It has my most hated JRPG mechanic: no saving everywhere. Spent about 15 more minutes playing than I wanted to trying to get to another save point.

3x speed with a three day weekend made this easier than I thought lol

Damn! Any tricky or very easy to miss ones?

I think the save points are very well paced myself.

Once you get onto the world map you can save anywhere you like whenever you like.

Holy mother of Aeris but I've been at the Icicle Inn chocobo tracks trying to catch one that spawns with Jumping enemies but it si not happening. The grind continues.

that went much better this time :)

but seriously that text is WAY off

/fist pump ;)

save points didn't bother me other than i didn't know when the next one was coming up and it's been so long since i've seen that kind of mechanic i was taken aback by it at first

amazed how well the look of the game has held up after all these years

and the story so far...

still relevant today sadly

Does anyone know how many wins each tier of Chocobo must have to guarantee a *insert colour here* offspring? I have a green Fem and a blue Male.

Edit: Now have a black Female.

Jesus Christ, the grind for the platinum is nuts.

What Grind ? :P

Well, as soon as you notice that your chocobo cant take stable first places either on auto or manual while you are holding L1, L2, R1, R2 pressed simultaneously, it is enough.

I think with a black and a wonderful yellow you could just creep in to S rank, dont think about beating anyone there though, that is what i did.

Ah I got my Black to S rank but just realised I have a Great Male, Wonderful Female so...unless I can get a gold from another coloured Chocobo I have to go out and catch a Wonderful male?

What you should have done once you got your wonderfull was save your game before moving it to the stables, and then reloading until you get male. Otherwise yes, catch a new wonderfull and move it to the stables until you get female, enter and exit the choco farm some 2 or 3 times after each game load to change the RNG.

Caught another Wonderful. Praying to RNGesus/moving in and out of the farm. Ty

Edit: Got the Wonderful male. Matched it with an s ranked female + Zeino Nut (or whatever its called). Got a Black....

That safe puzzle to get Vincent is driving me mad.

Also, what do I need to do to get Aeris's final limit break? I read some instructions somewhere else, but its a tad confusing.

You need to take the Buggy to the eastern continent (drive it to Costa Del Sol, get on the ferry and when you emerge on the World Map you'll be in it) and near Fort Condor there's a cave. The sleeping man inside wakes up when you've fought a number of battles to make your total something like x33 or x55 (ie the last two digits must be odd numbers and match). He gives you Mythril. Take that to the house near the Golden Saucer and give the Mythril to the guy inside and open the safe upstairs for the Great gospel item.

Edit: God is real. Just got a Gold Chocobo + KotR for the first time in my ff7 playing life...

Sorry if this has been asked a bunch, but for someone who hasn't played more than a few hours of FFVII before, is this the definitive version to play? Or am I better off playing the PS One classic version? I own it physically on PS1, but also digitally on PSN which could be played on Vita, Vita TV, or PS3. I don't care about trophies btw.

I would say this could be the new definitive version... I really get a kick out of the high rez character models...

But I must admit, I really want to play the game on the go and am slightly tempted to switch to the PSX version on my Vita... but that would be silly, honestly.

Once my PS4 playthrough reaches the boss I was stuck at in my PSX playthrough, I bet I'll be tempted again to switch...

Congrats! It really makes every encounter a breeze, but it's so satisfying to watch your small army of polygonal kaniggits shred everything to pieces.

Oh yeah I'm not planning on using it every encounter etc but I've never had Golden Chocobo/KotR before, and never beaten Emerald or Ruby so...that said it's the last time I want to see a Chocobo until the remake/XV.

Edit: Curses. May have brought the Save Crystal Glitch upon myself in the Northern Cave. Without having fought Emerald or Ruby yet....(I don't have a spare save file)....

Edit Pt II: Crisis averted.

What's this music looping bug?

I played the original Eidos PC version and I remember the music would start from the beginning every single time the world map reloaded; is this what you're referring to? Have they really never fixed that aspect of that version in 17 years?

(I actually played that version first, and remember being awed the first time I tried the PSX version and the music picked up where it left off every time.)

I guess they just didn't think it was a problem, and it got forgotten.

Yes and yes. That's the definition of lazy bastards right there.

How strange. I would have bet on them fixing that for the Steam release. I guess it really is just a lazy re-release of the original PC version. How disappointing. Especially since this also means that because the PC version is likely to become the source of future ports to other platorms, this flaw will become the new default behavior for the BGM.

Hmm, so does the overworld theme start from the beginning all the time in the Steam release? I already have that, but never played it far enough to the overworld, and I was thinking of picking up the PS4 release since I won't have my HTPC built for a while.

I played the game on its original release on the PS1 (bought my PS1 for it), so it's not like I've never played the game (I played it nearly my entire first year of college).

I dunno, maybe I'll just wait until my HTPC is built and rip my original disk copy and emulate it instead.

Finally got Omnislash too....

Time to at least attempt Emerald/Ruby weapon methinks..

Edit: agh Emerald makes me want to rage. Too much FF7 for one day.

In the PS4 version, every area's music resets. steam ver here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZXAS8irIBA

for world map, steam ver here:

it appears the steam version never did that bug.. it's a ps4 bug. :-/

i had forgotten how ugly the title screen of this game is. wtf IS IT? like a crumpled muddy piece of beige paper? dirty leather? the entire title of the game isn't even legible because of the weird light on it .. looks like it says "Final [weird symbol] [illegible] asy"

What the hell are we talking about? Isn't the title screen this:

Edit: oooh, this one lol

I just got Red XIII...
LOL I didn't realize that Hojo was trying to make him and Aerith mate when I played this as a kid

I missed Ramuh and had to go back to a 3hr save before (Fort Condor).

By the way, anyone else not happy with R3? It's too tempting to use. Does it at least get disabled for the Weapons?

L3 is a godsend. I forgot how slow all the animations are in FF7.

I have officially made it to Mt. Nibel which is the furthest I've ever played to. Everything from here is new to me :o

That's exactly where the story starts getting hard to follow, but if you can stick with it, Disc 2 and 3 have a lot of narrative payoffs.

Is it bad I want FFVIII/IX and Parasite Eve 1/2 like this now lol

What is it with SE and music-looping bugs! FFX HD had one up until recently..

Supposedly this version also plays the wrong music file during certain scenes.

I read more than once that this happens especially the first time you meet Yuffie and it plays the ominous Shinra music instead. Also during one of the Jenovah cutscenes.

Yup, this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0iTjFmZN5ng

Yeah it's pretty bad but god damn does the music compensate for it :lol

With the retro style music, it's almost like this was the very first thing they made for the game, before they knew what the rest of it was going to be. It's so NES/SNES final fantasy it hurts.

Almost like bridging the gap between the old and the new. "Here's one last piece of old final fantasy before we flip everything upside down on you."

.

It resets in the overworld and in dungeons.

This is a brilliant OST, so having it glitched like this fucking sucks :/

which twitter are you guys tweeting to about the music loop bug?

I tweeted these two:
