Final Fantasy VII Remake is a multi-part series

That's just the cost of high-fidelity HD graphics where you have to animate every single blink of an eye and render beads of sweat running down Cloud's pristine cheeks

It's so much the cost is that SE has has painted themselves in this huge bind by going for Advent Children still movie quality presentation.

That shit ain't cheap.

Hope we get director's cut of each episode after the original release so people rebuy episodes. More profit for Square. =P

I would be okay with this if they actually added some more content in the way of side quests, more story elements such as cutscenes, etc.

As long as the price to content = value ratio is there I'm okay with it, but I can see this upsetting people who want to gorge themselves on this.

I'm okay with this, but there are definitely details that could screw it up. At least we'll play part of the game sooner. 2016-2017 to actually play a part of the game vs 2027 for the full game.

People need to remember, the way current HD development goes, visuals and effects take much, MUCH longer than the simple 3D rendering of the original.

There is SO much content in the original game. Something this size could literally take 6 to 8 years of development time if done right. That is the cost of the massive amount of details these kinds of games have in them.

This isn't some bi yearly COD formulaic game being made. This is one of the grandest scale Final Fantasy games ever made. Expecting the entire thing done well while keeping the finer details intact is going to need some serious development time.

People need to chill.

So like I said above - charge me $100 for the final product, I really don't care and I have a feeling most gamers would not care. This is FF7. It will sell all its copies at almost any price between $60-$150, especially collector's editions. Don't split it across multiple games.

I don't mind it being episodic, but as someone who has already pre-ordered I think SquareEnix needs to clarify a few things with this statement. Does the $60 I already spent give me all of the "episodes"? Did they mean VII, VII-2, and VII-3, all with separate full length stories?

I bet its VII-1 , an artbook and a figurine.

EDIT: Confirmation and details from WSJ reporter:

I can actually see this turning out well. Hoping it doesn't completely make the entire series flop

I thought that maybe Squenix was doing too well lately. I knew it. Like a damn fiddle.

God I hope it doesn't suck.

Explains how they were ready to show something already. I wasn't expecting to hear anything about that title for years. Episodic means they're probably using a vertical slice approach to the game.

EP 01 - mako bombing mission - release date: December 2016
EP 02 - the 7th heaven - release date : January 2017
EP 03 - Aerith & The Turks - release date : February 2017
and so on because I'm too lazy to type everything.

If you think the release windows will be that close together you are crazy.

I would prefer to wait for one complete package, like the rest of the world. But it doesn't seem like that's the direction Square wants to go in. I just hope the episodic release resembles Resident Evil Revelations 2 more than it does a TTG release. (i.e. Release with a schedule in mind.)

I don't understand how people can defend it, how the fuck a RPG can be episodic ? what a joke...

.Hack literally did the same thing during the PS2 and the game worked really well.

I'll admit this is disappointing if it's as bad as we are all imagining.

But SE needs to come out and clarify this shit more

A WSJ reporter just tweeted this (read from bottom to top)

Ok ive been raging hard but "huge data" is a weird phrase for a reason for it to be episodic. Not "amibitious" or "grand in scope"?

Maaaaybe we are misunderstanding?

Ive gone from rage to denial....

Oh wow lol!

It's been what, 20 years since FF7, it's been 10 years everyone is asking for a remaster/remake, hype is through the roof for the last couple of years, and this is how were getting it?

This is absurd.

It doesn't necessarily sound like it's an episodic game though. Maybe they are indeed referencing Crisis Core/Dirge of Cerberus, but who knows.

After the bullshit Square pulled with the Deus Ex pre-order rubbish, people really didn't expect them to do something with the clamoured-for FF7 remake? Deus Ex doesn't even have near the selling power FF7 has. They're gonna milk the SHIT out of this thing.

This isn't even gonna be the start of it, you can fully expect microtransactions and exclusive pre-order content. Like the optional characters. You wanna have Vincent? Gotta pre-order the Dirge of Cerberus-pack from GameStop.

Episode 1: Midgar (you can't go back to Midgar until the end of Disc 2 anyway). Maybe Add the flashback too
Episode 2: From Kalm to the Temple of the Ancients
Episode 3: The whole north continent arc until Cloud meltdown
Episode 4: Hunting the Giant Materias and all that stuff
Episode 5: Midgar reloaded
Episode 6: North Crater

$30 x 6 = 180

I'll buy this.

I would hope it's cheaper than that but I would be down with that.

I don't understand people saying things like the scope of the game is not doable. I mean look at the Witcher 3 and Xenoblade Chronicles X. They could easily do the game and not have to break it up into episodes.

Besides I don't mind episodic games, love Life is Strange. I just don't see how it's doable in a RPG.

So I assume so that they can do stuff like,

"Hey, let's throw them episode 1 at 2016!"

And then "Episode 2 at 2017!". "Episode 3 at 2018!". "Episode 3 at 2019!"

Basically trying to lessen the burden instead of "Here, the full game at 2017!" so they can sort of do this at a sideline project while also making other games.

...This doesn't exactly inspire confidence, however.

Ya why not just go all the way and let Telltale make it? /s

Seriously though, the game looked great and Id be happy with those graphics. But it wasnt anywhere near the best we've seen this gen. If money is an issue, scrap 15 and make 7 right lol.

I think you're vastly underestimating the amount of cost and work that would go into creating something like this

also scrap the development of a full new entry to the series so they can do this "right" by what a few people on a forum think is "right"?

come on

Surely they'll charge $20 for each of three potential parts equaling a fair $60?

Surely? Right GAF? Please?

haha people in ign comment section going ham on square enix too. I hope this fails really bad. And they lose tons of money off this. Bunch of talentless hacks. Hopefully maybe one day they can make a game run over 30 fps.
