Understanding is one thing; blind acceptance is another.
Correct

Understanding is one thing; blind acceptance is another.

I just find it disheartening how quickly people went from "THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER MADE" to "I WISH SQUARE-ENIX WAS BANKRUPT AND ALL OF ITS EXECUTIVES WERE DEAD"
Is trepidation understandable? Absolutely, yes. But what we've seen so far is fantastic and its method of release isn't going to change that.
It's good to be cautious, but we know nothing about this yet. We know so little about the game, let alone this recent episodic announcement. We don't know how the map is going to be structured, how the pricing will be, how many episodes there will be, how close to each other they will release. The first continent alone could be Witcher 3 levels of big. We don't know.
Optimism might seem foolish to people used to being disappointed by Square, but what they have shown us so far all looks amazingly well done. This one announcement isn't going to diminish the quality of what we've seen nor is it going to take a FULL FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE away from us, which is better to get piecemeal than not at all. I'm just trying to look at the bright side of things.
Anybody defending this decision is such a corporate suckup. This is really, really cynical.
well GAF it was fun being your harbinger of despair for the evening, expecting to see a yoshichan obituary when I wake up tomorrow
The 40 pages of reactions are a bit much, but I will say to the complainers' credit, Square should rightfully get flak for being so vague. You can't just drop a one-line statement about this and run off.
Laugh all you want. Call me childish. Make fun of the hashtag from.that other thread. Doesnt matter much to me. NO, my world isn't ending. No, I don't expect to be successful at forcing Square's hand. Too many people already rationalizing and justifying purchases of a single game chopped up to sell to you piecemeal.
But at the end of the day if you don't at least try, if you just take whatever line of shit is fed to you, then you deserve what you get.
Judging by the responses, many people deserve whatever butchering happens to the game. When I say I won't buy something based on principle, I don't. Many gamers bitch and moan and still buy, but I do not. I haven't touched Madden in years. Quit CoD and BF after Ghosts and 4, and will write off any other developer that I feel is taking advantage of my money and/or time.
FFXIII was a mess that had a few bright spots. The battle systems in 1 and 2 were good. I have no clue what the hell they did with LR not having weapon crafting unless you're on hard mode? The hell? And the story was incomprehensible. I still have no idea what happened.
What is with this company and GAF.
Yes because in the end, I know that the product will be complete in a way that I know Square's developed it from start to finish as a complete package. There won't be any 'cuts' in-between acts like a fucking HBO TV-series.
Just from the very nature of being multiple entries means that the team can spend more time and resources to each game. Instead of rushing to finish a massive game in a single entry, they can take their time to meet realistic deadlines and flesh out what they can in each area. It won't be a single budget strained in one single instance, which may cause the company to be weary of the risk of putting all your eggs in one basket, but rather over the course of multiple games, which gives the company time to generate more money and fund them all healthily.
It's a much safer move by SE, and I think the entries will be better for it.
I was really curious as to why everything was of Midgar. Was it because they've just been working sequentially on the game or what?
Ending of each part:
Part 1: Leaving Midgar
Part 2: Aeris death
Part 3: Finale
$180 for all 3 or buy all 3 at the start for $150!
Stop it with your reasonable logic. We just have to accept this because thats just how things are according to some people.Laugh all you want. Call me childish. Bummed about the news but I understand (because I'm an adult).
Maybe you'll rise again tomorrow with good news?

Who's looking forward to FFVII-Remake VR on PS5?
Pffft wait for a new Destiny expansion announcement. The only difference is, there won't be a meltdown. In 1 hour and 50 minutes, we are at 40 pages. This has to be a record for NeoGAF meltdowns. Has to.
You can't. That shit is cut.How do you construct an overworld in an episodic game? Genuine question.
Seems like people are blindly accepting that this will be awful before hearing literally anything else.
What is the point in this being episodic outside of money?
The worst part is that some peoples are ok with this..... I cant believe this.
Here's my crazy stance that I'd hope fellow GAF members would agree with me on:
I would rather wait longer or pay more for a complete gaming experience rather than this season pass bullshit.
You can't. That shit is cut.
Shh. This is Neogaf. If you're not outraged, you're 'one of them'.Seems like people are blindly accepting that this will be awful before hearing literally anything else.
Well guess whose fucking fault that is. Also, we do have info about it being fucking multiple games. That news in itself has NOTHING but negativity about it.

Everyone who is "ok" with this are "ok" with what this could potentially be.The worst part is that some peoples are ok with this..... I cant believe this.
DQIX on DS might have been worse.

As long as we get the entirety of FFVII, and they don't skip any areas between episodes, then I don't think this is too bad.
FF 13 trilogy is pretty much considered to be a huge let down. And working on 13-2 and 13-3 DID take resources away - big time. FF 13 came out in 2009. We are nearing SEVEN years without a new mainline title, thanks to the fucking trilogy (and that stupid MMO).Calling the 3 games "utter shit", saying that changing directors for FFXV was bad.
That's fucking hyperbole.
If the change in director didn't happen for XV, the game would never even see the light of day. Have you forgotten that it was announced in 2006? That's like, 10 years ago, dude.
Your post makes it sound like SE ripped out your soul and shat on it.
As always in the entertainment and video game industry: if you don't like a thing, don't buy it or support it. Don't act like things not being like you want means that it's the end of the world.
Opinions, man.
