Maybe you would, but they wouldn't. You can't sustain a company like SQE with only two games in a generation.

Why do people keep parroting the breakdown as being one game per original FF7 disk?

That makes next to no sense, given the length of Disk 3 in relation to the other two. It's been some time since I beat FF7, but disk 3 is basically just the final crater stuff and a ton of sidequests. The story portion could be beat in less than 5 hours. The other two disks were 15-20 hours each, sticking mostly to main story quests.

If the game ends of being split into 3 parts, the third part will start a lot earlier than the third FF7 disk.

There were two separate .hack adventures, which spanned four and three games respectively.
 
It really depends on how they pull it off and how it will officially work. I guess it will be something like FF Dimensions? That isn't too bad if they do it well and add some uber dungeon in each chapters so you have a reason to keep playing before the next chapter arrive. People might not like the level caps and other restrictions though haha.

I think it shows SE don't want to invest in long term fund draining project anymore. Here they get money back with each chapter but also players' input they seem to value a lot with XV. We saw something similar with MGS5 where they sold a prologue to recoup some cost. Capcom also tried it with RE Revelations 2 and it worked well with that game since the unlocks and raid mode kept you hooked.

The thing is that this would cost such an enormous amount of money.
Again, from a business standpoint, NO BIG STUDIO EVER would take on this job today. You're asking for years of putting money down the drain, especially by the time where new consoles will come out too, with technology constantly changing, and having to invest in other projects.

I reiterate that a game of the exact same scope of FF7 made with today's production and with the same amount of fidelity, done in a decent amount of time and without making a company lose a shitload of money is impossible. For years I thought that if a remake was going to be announced, it was never ever going to be like the original. Probably that people at SE thought the same thing. Probably why they didn't want to do it for the longest time. The amount of stuff there is in FF7 that you'd have to recreate today, being all polished and 3D and voice acted is absolutely insane.

Especially, SE is not ubisoft. They don't have thousands of employees. They're making a shitload of games at the same time all the time. Hell even FF14, the big mmo, has made money only because it's powered by a skeleton team of about 30+ people now ?

Other people have suggested that the multi-part series model is the only way Final Fantasy VII Remake could ever be completed and I agree with them.

Final Fantasy VII has three/four disks. It had a development budget of $67 million in 2015 when adjusting for inflation, extremely large for a video game in 1997.

Adapting that behemoth to modern sensibilities, especially when you're a relatively small in-house developer like Square Enix (compared to massive titans like Activision Blizzard) who has to heavily rely on outsourcing to get your video game completed, must be incredibly cumbersome for the teams they have in-house. Logistically it's probably a nightmare, so managing development in smaller chunks might be the only way that the team can avoid from getting completely overwhelmed, especially with other in-house titles like "Kingdom Hearts 3" concurrently in development.

If Final Fantasy VII were a three-part series, that's three retail releases that successfully capitalize on the iconic "Final Fantasy VII" brand. It would maintain the IP's longevity in the market, and it would maximize revenue potential.

It also mitigates risk. Multi-part releases allow Square Enix to adjust future titles in response to feedback from the first one, while a major release upfront would not only take much longer development-wise, but if it failed then its sales potential would be severely truncated.

Because I'm waiting for more info? No one knows how this will be implemented. You have people on both sides making up scenarios and pushing them as fact.

Others have brought up legit points. The game would take too long and cost too much money to make. Look at FFXV. 10 years in the pipeline and we'll finally be getting a release date in March.

Now think of this if SE had this game as one huge dev cycle. You'd probably get things cut from the main game just to have it ship in a timely manner.

I'm ok with this IF the "parts" are beefy and have a lot of content. Everything story wise, side quest wise, exploration wise is translated over.
 
If it means we can start playing this in early 2016 then I'm all for this as long as its priced fairly.

If not then I don't see the point and they can get fucked.

Guess I'll stop watching Game of Thrones then, since they're making multiple seasons out of single novels.

But yes, historically splitting one story into multiple units for adaptation is a messy endeavour. Look at all of the tween franchises currently splitting their conclusions into 'Part 1' and 'Part 2'. Typically results in bad plot structure for each peice, and feels like a cash grab.

Will FFVII have the same fate? We have literally no way of knowing. So all you can do is take your present opinion of Square-Enix, and project it onto this situation.

Trails First Chapter and Second Chapter, with 3rd being sorta an epilogue.

The only issue I can see occur is if they can't fit the whole world on one disc once the world is free for you to roam (which I think was the problem in Star Ocean 4). But we've seen some very large worlds in games already released for the PS4, so here's hoping SE can fit it all. If they can, then this multi-part series idea is very healthy for each entry.

If they can't, well, then I guess SE never understood the importance of the open world in FF7 in the first place. But they seem adamant about capturing the spirit of FF7, so I have hopes in them and I'm sure they'll make it work.
 
Thinking more about this, I'm glad they went episodic.

I hope because of the format, it's a more faithful representation of everything in the original game.

I don't buy it at all. I mean, I GET that FFVII is massive for todays standard (and even back then) - but you've got a shit trilogy like FFXIII covering up for what could be replaced (content-wise) with the entirety of FFVII.

There are large sprawling jrpgs available to play right now that are longer than 40 hours and have much larger worlds (some of which are hand made, not procedural). They didn't take a decade to develop either.
 
They're going to do a Hitman style release schedule where they're vague as fuck and leave fans questioning them. Afterwards, they're going to give some more concrete details but still leave things vague.
 
This seems like a combination of SE wishing to maximize profits and not trusting Nomura not to repeat what happened with Vs. XIII by means of having him complete the game in smaller bites at a time, rather than leave him to lose focus as he took on more than he could handle at once and have nothing to show for it like he did with that game.

You were logistically never getting a single game that completely remade FF7 in the look of the trailer. If you weren't questioning how they were going to pull it off after 13 and 15, then that's some incredible naivety. There was always going to be some catch to it.

El Dorado Gate, Final Fantasy 4: The After Years, Final Fantasy Legends/Dimensions, .hack are some.
 
This makes no sense besides wanting to make more money. Unless they're making it episodically and they'll release it over time like a telltale game? Maybe it's the full compilation (doubt it) Or maybe they're charging for each disc as one separate game? I honestly don't want to know anymore.
 
If SE was hell-bent on remaking FF7, it would've been better to set a more modest and realistic target that would allow them to deliver the entire package as one game rather than this "multi-part series" bullshit. Right now, what we're getting is barely FF7.

Knowing SE, they're going to split the main story up and market each part as its own game, so each "episode" will be a full priced $60+ game.

Unless they offer up some clarification on this(and it's positive news), I'll be cancelling my preorder for whatever the hell I preordered, I don't even know anymore, in the coming weeks.

If this was the case with FF7Remake o think it could be actually good. But they are separating prpbably because they cant make the game fast enough, so i dont see it.

.hack series. In interesting note, you can skip the previous one, but you will start the game with barebone equipment. If you transfer save, you will retain whatever lvl and equipment you have.

Oh wait, i think there also D&D games that was episodic. I forgot
