Final Fantasy VII Remake + ReShade Mod = Jaw-dropping Visuals in 2025

The first game in a very long time that has truly blown me away visually is Final Fantasy VII Remake on PC with this ReShade mod:

I'm absolutely stunned by how incredible this 2020 game looks on a proper HDR display with the mod enabled. I originally played it on PS4 when it launched and even earned the platinum trophy back the, I remember thinking it looked great at the time. But recently I felt the urge to revisit it, so I bought it on Steam.

Initially, I wasn't quite satisfied with how it looked out of the box. But then I came across this ReShade mod, and honestly, it feels like a whole new game. It's a massive upgrade.
I constantly find myself stopping just to take in the scenery. Sometimes it literally makes my jaw drop. It's been a long time since I've had this kind of reaction to a game's graphics.

If you haven't tried it yet and have an HDR setup, do yourself a favor and check it out. The difference is mind-blowing.

Looks oversharpened IMO.

But I like the higher saturation. I don't know why so many devs like their grey haze on everything.

The colors look more saturated, nothing else.
Yeah, the screenshots might make it look like it's just boosted saturation, but honestly, in motion, it's a lot more than that. The lighting, contrast, and depth really pop, especially in HDR. It gives the whole game a more cinematic and polished look. Definitely something that's hard to capture in still images.

I've never been into mods but I love the graphics and general aesthetic of Remake/Rebirth. Rebirth is arguably too big (a lot of the excess IS optional and a lot of optional content fleshes out the world and characters) and some will always be mad a whole game was made from FFVII's intro city area but I had fun with Remake. These two games have made me happy with my PS5 Pro purchase.

Edit: I'm a console peasant as well.

Looks pretty good. The vanilla version also looks significant more blurry compared to the reshade, so the reshade really make the skin , facial feautures and materials pop out.

Somehow I had it Tracked on Nexus already, lol. Going to mess around with it sooner than later. I don't see myself replaying the full game anytime soon though.

Loved both games. Personally I wouldn't want to reshade them. They have a specific look that feels very FF7 game world and that's part of the charm.
You look like you are walking around Gotham with that reshade on - and that does look cool and all, but it's not really fitting my expectations for the world having played the original.

Nice share.

Seeing someone using Reshade is like going to someone's house and seeing that they've pumped up their TV's contrast settings to the max. It just looks like shit 99% of the time.
