Final Fantasy VII Remake Update 1.01 Released

Then I guess by definition, every game that has a direct sequel are also incomplete.

No, my definition has nothing to do with story or narritive. There is a literal product that they are remaking. They have shipped another product that contains a piece of the first product. That piece represents an incomplete remake.

It's the simplest thing in the world, but wow is it a touchy subject around here.

Stop being disingenuous

You just wrote a paragraph with more spin than a ferris wheel, and I'm the one not being frank? Go work in marketing or something, you tool.

I feel like the arguments for or against a "full game/story" are kinda dismissive. I think it's better to look at these parts as "full experiences." I spent 60 hours in the game and loved it. It's a work of art and you're definitely cheating yourself if you don't allow yourself to enjoy it.

Additionally, because of the way the story and characters are structured, it still feels "complete," because they were able to write in so many subplots that do have a full story arc within this game, while still hinting at the next game for the main protagonist/antagonist relationship to continue as it did in the original.

Just my humble 2 cents anyway 🤷🏻‍♂️

They are expanding a project, this is not a 1:1 remake.
You'd have a point if the game was the same as the original but with updated graphics, it's not.
I do agree with some fans that it would have been better for the game to be called something else and not remake because it did create a lot of misunderstanding.

Square Enix did this on purpose, to get people to buy the game

A business wants to make more money, am I reading this correctly?

What's wrong wanting to make money off your intellectual property? FF7 was one of their biggest hits with one of their biggest fanbase, of course they're going to try to squeeze more life out of it, they already did this with Crisis Core, Advent Children and that God awful Dirge of Cerberus. At least they don't milk their fans as bad as say... Nintendo!

Hey, blame Square. They market it as a remake, and if it's a remake: then you only got part of the game. That's incomplete by any definition.

The fact that they don't even have the balls to put "Part 1" on their product speaks volumes. They were obviously nervous as hell as to the message that would send (which is stupid: everyone and their uncle wants an FFVII remake). I am very curious as to what part 2 is going to be called.

I definitely agree the naming was intentionally misleading. Should have called it FF7 Remake: Midgar or FF7 Remake: Part 1 or something like that.

But if you had been following any news about the game they were very direct from early on that the project would be divided into multiple parts, that it wasn't going to be a 1:1 Remake and that they were going to expand each part to be longer than in the original game and offer content comparable to a full mainline entry

Mass Effect 2, yes. That had a story that was part of a bigger arc, deeply connected with 3. I would compare it to Lord of the Rings. You wouldn't say Two Towers is a complete movie/novel just because it had a beginning and an end?

Yes I consider the Two Towers to be a complete movie even if it doesn't tell a complete story, I also had no problem paying a regular full movie ticket price to watch it and it didn't feel like it was offering less than other movies at the time. To me an incomplete movie would have been if in the middle of the battle of Helm's Deep it just cuts to black at a random time

I totally get not wanting to play these games until all sequels are out, I just think calling the game unfinished because it doesn't tell the whole story doesn't do it justice. If anything I thought FF7 Remake Part 1 already felt like a much more complete experience than FFXV

The comparison to LOTR is interesting, as Tolkien originally intended it to be one book. So in no way shape or form was Two Towers meant to stand alone.

However, FF7 Remake obviously was.

1. They don't want to confuse people? Then why use the word "Remake" which caused a shitload of confusion? Also, game length is irrelevant. It can be 100 hours, it's still not the complete FFVII. The question of completeness is a pretty simple yes or no question, but you don't like the answer so you keep bringing up other facets of the game that don't matter. Is it complete, Lxion? Yes, you say. Because they modeled the playground in Midgar correctly. Because the red materia is really, really red. Because Cloud now has fingers. Admitting the answer is "no" would apparently end the universe or something.
2. Yeah, how weird would it be for a game that was announced as a remake of an older game to have "Remake" in the title as an indication that it's a remake. That would be so odd. I'd have to stop and think about it. And then the game came out and it wasn't a remake at all! Gosh. Yup, I think Square is actually new to this video game thing.
3. People know it focuses only on Midgar because of the stink it caused when it was announced more than anything.. Square intentionally chose to leave any indication that they're only delivering a part of the game they're remaking from the title in an effort to...fuck, I don't know. It's just so stupid the more I think about it. They're not fooling anybody. Whyyyyyyyyyy, Square? You dumb bastards, your game deserves better.

Maybe they were drunk that day.

What are you talking about. I keep saying it's a complete game. You guys keep coming back and saying it's not the complete, original Final Fantasy 7 story. Two very different and very true statements. For fuck's sake people, if you don't like this game because they don't give you the original story, that is perfectly reasonable. But you saying the first installment is not a "full game" is just a lie.

Also, your entire point is about the name of the game, even though Square said right from the beginning these games would be expanded and episodic. And they give you a full description of what the game provides if you simply turn the box around or read the short description on the PS Store. There is zero confusion unless you just paid zero attention to the game and did an instant impulse buy, which is just a stupid thing to do in general.

I wish I could agree, as a devout fan of the original game this game left me incredibly disappointed and dissatisfied, but that had nothing to do with it just being a Midgar game.

The ridiculous amount of padding to justify its length and price definitely helped mar my experience. Theres a lot of forced walking, and squeezing through things that just makes traversal annoying, and there's just big sections of the game that would have been better cut out like the obnoxiously terrible sidequests(some of which you're forced to do to progress), and entire gameplay sections that are just there to spin your wheels to pad the game out.

The stretched out padding is my biggest criticism of the game as well, but it was the only significant negative for me and it's only a modest portion of the game. The majority of the game is well paced and provides such high highs, that ultimately I think it's a great game. And even the occasional padding is still pretty fun since the core aspects of the game are very sound, such as the great battle system and music.

I'd prefer they take anyone who would work on that DLC and make them make part 2 as good as possible.

instead of getting more content now I'd rather wait till 2025 when they have a new game and a new engine that they could the port the first game into with 4x more experience working with next gen.

Yeah but I think the only way they can take that much time is to earn money from DLC.

I mean they said they wanted the next part out as fast as possible, so I dont think there will be any DLC.
But honestly I'd bee fine with some cross gen DLC (about 10 hours or so, maye Tifas and AVELANCHEs story, everything that has happened to them while Cloud was playing cross dressing with Aerith) and then the next full next gen only game in 2023 or something.
