Quick questions. How do I unlock the second job for my characters? Also, is there any way the inactive party can earn XP?

Messing around on my 2nd playthrough-

Vaan is Knight as first job...

1) Start game and play it to Rogue Tomato Hunt, finish that and go back to Rabanastre
2) Farm pots in Estersand by the zone to outpost for Phoenix Downs, I got about 30
3) Head to Westersands and pop Dustria. 1 Hit KO Dustria rare monster with a phoenix down and zone out before dying animation ends
4) Repeat until out of phoenix downs
5) Should be lv15-20, farm stage 1-2 for diamond armlets to buy all monographs (takes about 27 diamond armlets) and steal phoenix downs from rats/thextra + 1 phoenix down from pot in stage 2
6) Should have about 50 phoenix downs, spend it all on dustria again
7) Lv22-25 at this point, go get Penelo by starting Sunstone quest and teach her Fire
8) Try to steal Karatka from Stage 3 flower cactoid, farm LP to unlock it (for your knight)
9) Should be able to beat trial 1-10 at this point, farm as needed for licenses, etc

OP team in the beginning of the game, especially since all characters that join your team will be nearly lv30 as well.

I don't recommend this since just playing the game will be more efficient but was a nice way to get levels before leaving Rabanastre, lol.

That Feywood boss was pretty intense.

Kicked my ass the first few times until I realized I needed to go full offense. That Hastega mote in my inventory was a godsend. Got all my DPS classes out and just wailed on it.

not saying this to incite shit but th artstyle of this game is so on point ozmone plains look about as good ff13's plains at least, and if you ignore the decade's worth of tech difference, it blows 15 out of the water

So I spent a while farming exp, via dustias, and I gotta say, this is always the right way to start off the game for me. I made a monk so far and decided to have him go barehands, so far that's the right choice, but I know that it will taper off and I'll need weapons, not levels. Freaking love this game.

Also, Blackmage... HP issues much? :/

Any impressions on how this game holds up using Remote Play? I could see playing it on the Vita (or PC) being handy for when the girlfriend wants to watch TV!

I mean, I was always one of the guys that said FF12 was one of the top FF games but man ... I can't describe how much I am enjoying playing this again.

I've never understood the actual differences between the ZJS and Standard system.
Basically, the standard allows you to just have every character be a master of everything? Whilst the ZJS forces you to make choices and consider what each character should specialise in?

The original game had one license board with everything on, so all characters could learn everything and use all weapons

Hello again,

I'm getting to get the Demonsbane sword at the Tomb of Raithwall. I know there might be other swords of there, this is just for curiosity. I'm having no luck. Herts what I've done: defeated the two walls, raised the steps to the area and:

1: the chest have a Scathing Mote. I ran back to the crystal and touched it, hoping that would Respawn the chest. Did that for over an hour, no chest appeared at all.

2: went back to the save file and I still got Scathing Motes, relaxed the save and repeated for over an hour, every time it was the motes.

So how do I get the sword? What am I doing wrong? I know there's a chance of getting the sword, gil or motes, but I haven't even got gil from it. Should I just move on in my life?

As a newcomer I feel lke the game looks kind of bad. I mean, XI scenery (not characters) would almost look better if it wasn't a blurry mess on PS2, if you ask me (there's not even day/night cycle!). Also maps are really small and too segmented. I'm really early though.

Also the slow menu is annoying the hell out of me, considering i'm playing active.

It's not there anymore.

Sometimes nostalgia is just that. Nostalgia. I remember this game so fondly. I've said for years and years that this is my favorite final fantasy. I was in college and I ended up putting hundreds of hours into it, doing all the hunts, etc.

I have fond memories of other games and sometimes when I pick them up it just doesn't feel the same.

Ffxii is the exception. It's just as good if not better than I remember. The QoL changes like speed up are huge. The job system adds a new layer of depth that I think the old system was lacking. I'm in love with the game all over again. Given that I haven't relayed it in almost 20 years it's like it's a brand new game to me again. I love it.

Just wondering something about the gambit system. Is there any way to get my white mage to cast protect on all allies but only if an enemy has a certain amount of hp? I'm getting tired of doing it manually but right now I can only see a way to set it to be done for every encounter which would be a massive waste of mp.

Ended up in some weird places when I got my second jobs.

Monk.Black Mage I think will be ok but I thought a monk could fight with no weapons and I'm doing zero damage

Machinst White Mage should be good. I didn't realize Machinist would have so much magik boost tiles so I added white mage

It did leave me with some things left over like Bushi/Archer which feels useless

Wait for about 10-15 hours (yes thats relatively very early since its a giant ass game).
thats when you get your full party and are able to wander about around the world.
have you even reached bhujerba yet?

Ok this is just silly... I feel so overpowered, even though I'm not over leveled. I just fought
Mateus, then back to Bur-Omnisice and fought Bergan
, and wiped the floor with both, with my level 29 group.

I'm roughly the same level as the enemies in the area, so I know I'm not super OP. In fact the most trouble I've had with any boss so far has been my own doing by blasting myself with spells off of their reflect and not noticing. I'm now concerned that this game will be too easy... Gil Snapper was the only legit challenge so far, and I took it on at level 22. I may have to wear fireflies for a bit. Ugh... or is it not my levels that are the problem, but the license board?

Is there no way to restart the trial mode from stage 1 ? I was unable to steal Karkata on my first try. I thought I could do it again, but it doesn't seem like it...

Reload the auto save into main game to wipe trial progress, resave then quit to title

I know I could google this, but since I'm reading the thread anyway, is this a straight up remaster of FFXII? Are there any quality of life improvements like how FFVII, IX, and X gave you options to fast forward stuff, make your party invincible, infinite gil, etc.? I'd like to revisit this game, but I don't have a heck of a lot of time to invest in it.

I'm in the mines from that area yeah. I saw some pics of latter areas that looked very good, so looking forward to that.
It's kind of a bummer there's basically no day cycles or weather though :(

most underrated FF soundtrack ever
Eryut Village is something else. I remember liking the soundtrack back when it first came up but, 11 years later, I have an all new appreciation for it.

It's been said many times but I'd love Matsuno to get another shot at a FF game. Guy is a visionary.
Nah it's the one where he asks Fran how old she is
The way Fran says
"Your point?"
when Vaan brings up the subject is great. She basically says "Drop the fucking subject right now, asshole" in two words.

I don't particularly like Sakimoto, and find a lot of the songs in XII grating, but I do really like the Eryut theme.

Also, unrelated note, running around the desert with Vaan and Penelo, making the most of early game resources, is great. It feels like FF1, where a little HP and damage boost makes all the difference between squeaking by or getting wiped.

Hey quick question, does anybody know if a character's stats level up based on their job, or is it innate to the character? Both?

Basically, will some characters be predisposed to being better fits for certain jobs over others? Do I need to do some research into the individual character's stat leveling curves before picking their jobs?

Yeah, not an option anymore. I guess I cant do it.

what does it look like for you? you did the trial, did you make it to 10 to make a save?

unless you reloaded a save before going into trial and did something to overweite the auto save, it should be there.

I always found the Elder Wyrm really bloody hard in the original, so I was pretty surprised when I beat it first shot this time. Did they make this version easier or did I just get good??

Nnn I love the Viera's. Give me a Fran spinoff SE!!!

also I'm really digging the soundtrack this time around.

Innate to the character, but it really isn't a big deal. The only real notable ones are Balthier and Basch being fairly bad with magic and Basch having low vitality.
