FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 |OT| Change the Future

For the Lightning/Amodar fight, I used a modified Yomi strategy.

RAV, RAV, COM to get to the "real" battle (you auto-heal when Amodar shows up anyway, so it doesn't matter).

Then SAB, MED, SEN to poison and imperil Amodar.
Then RAV, RAV, SEN (or RAV, RAV, RAV if you are strong enough) to stagger him.
Then COM, COM, COM/SEN to finish him off (if you can't kill him in one stagger, quit the battle and level up).
Then SAB, MED, SEN to both cast deprotect on Lightning and tank her Army of One feral link that comes immediately after you kill Amodar.
Then RAV, RAV, RAV to stagger and COM, COM, COM to kill.

Cheap, lazy strategy, but it's pretty much fool proof... and considering I did that fight maybe 60 times, I can probably do it on autopilot now. lol

Yesterday I got my first Paradox Ending, I really wasn't expecting it, it was when
fake Lightning told me to stay in fake world
I accidentally chose "Yes", saw the ending, went back and chose no to advance.

It was cool, reminded me of the other endings in Chrono Trigger.

What the fucking fuck was that ending? I don't think I've ever screamed at my TV more.

Luckily after I finished that I went back and got
"The Future is Hope"
paradox ending, which is infinitely better and I'm tempted to just leave it at that.
Sure it doesn't have the pretty CGI or final boss but it's got Snow being all BAUS and everyone's happy. Seriously, fuck the original ending.

You like the ending that is even worse in
having a feeling of finality
than the normal ending?

I'm still a little unsure about buying XIII-2. How is the story? How much Lightning is there actually in the game? Does she only appear in the beginning and is then basically gone for the rest of the game? (DLC aside) Because those scenes from the opening are actually what interests me the most.

Not in the game other than a few cut scenes. This is Serah and Noel's story, with a surprising emphasis on Hope and a dash of Snow for good measure. If you were wanting more Lightning, Sazh, Fang or Vanille, this game will severely disappoint you.

That said, I thought the game (the game, not the story) was far better than XIII with the only exception being the lack of difficulty and post-game hunts that make you cry from getting bitch slapped so hard.

Game is super easy, yo.

hm, that's a little disappointing. I guess then I'll wait until it's cheaper, thx

Kinda bad. Not much. Yes.

Any tips on the slot machine fragment? Do I just have to win a certain amount or does it have to be a net gain and then leave the machine to get the fragment?

Can't believe how lucky I am. Got Lightning on my 1st try even though I had a 0 star ranking and took 31 minutes to finish the fight.

It seems I was a little underpowered (did it during Chapter 3).

Just infused the Pulse Gladiator with the Pulse Soldier and Knight to absorb all the damage while using two Ravs to stagger. Used the SEN for all but one offensive paradigm to stay safe.

I did it at a pretty low level I guess, these are my pradigms:

Noel Serah Monster

Com Moster -> Orion
Sen Monster -> Bunkerbeast
Med Monster -> Green Chocobo

Rav, Rav, Sen -> 2-Folow immediately with this to raise stagger bar fast
Com, Com, Com-> 4-When staggered, attack with 3 commandos for max damage
Rav, Com, Med -> 1-Start with this to stabilize stagger bar
Sen, Rav, Sen -> 6-Protection against feral links while filing stagger bar
Med, Sen, Med -> 5-Healing
Rav, Rav, Med -> 3-Cure while filling stagger bar

You will have to change paradigms A LOT, you have to be on your toes, and see the attack patterns to know when to attack.

Good Luck

Thank both you and Firehawk! This is the kind of stuff I was looking for. I'm thinking a maxed out Red and Green chocobo should allow me to easily beat her. Still only have Pulse Knight for SEN but a friend said the Bunkerbeast is where the Green Chocobo is so I should be able to capture him too.

BTW, how do you get to Yaschas Masiff 110 anyway? I can't check from work but the brief descrpition of a link on google looks like the gate might be in Bresha Ruins 300? Can one of you guys confirm that for me?

Bring a lot of coins (5,000+) and only play when the machine is 'on fire' or 'hot as a summer's day'. You don't need to leave the machine to get the fragment, it will pop up as soon as you meet the requirements. I believe the fragment is based off of a total, but the trophy is based off of net gain. So if you don't have that yet, it's probably best to get that through chocobo racing first so that you don't put yourself in a hole with the slots.

Ya, Yaschas Massif 110AF is unlocked through the gate in Bresha Ruins 300AF. You'll need a Wild Artefact to unlock it.

You shouldn't need a MED. Use Silver Chocobo as your SEN, Cloudburst or Albino Lobo as your RAV, and Gold Chocobo as your COM. The Chocobos are free to get.

For those who
answered "No" the 1st time around, how did you get this Paradox ending again?

Yup!

I was wondering this myself, surely I don't have to do that entire thing again?
Talking to all of those Yeuls is like talking to a series of brick walls
and I really don't want to do that again.

you have to close the gate leading to those events WITH paradox scope OFF and you will arrive to this pointby going trough that gate again.
If you have paradox scope ON , you'll get another ending should you beat caius again.

Dat ending.

So, they totally ignored what happened to Snow and NORA.

Caius is dead. Serah is dead. Lightning (might be) dead. Etro is dead, and taking the world with it.

Lightning is sitting on Etro's thrown. What. The. Fuck?

Mind blown.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
So I'm about 8 hours in, and the game turned into a bunch of mundane, WRPG-style fetch quests and shitty puzzles (read: the clock puzzle). Does it improve, or should I throw in the towel? Because I fucking hate this right now.

Lets try this question instead: For those of you that captured Lightning, which monsters did you use?
I'm guessing COM MED SEN is the way to go. I'm planning on using the Red and Green Chocobos and not sure what SEN I'll have by the time I get the Green but right now I'm still using Pulse Knight.

The silver chocobo makes a great sentinel and racer.

I am 5 hours into the game and I am really surprised that I am liking Noel so far. When the info of Noel were released, I thought he would be really bad character like Snow, but so far he is really good. Hope he continues to be like this.

Pretty much all of that is optional. There are a few required puzzles, but not many. The only required fetch quests come near the end of the game but depending on how much of a compulsive player you are it's totally possible you already gathered all the items needed to progress the story further before you even get to that point.

I'd suggest just going back to the main story if you don't want to do any of that.

He does. IMO Noel ends up being a very likable guy who sometimes makes fun of the stupid shit that people say. Noel is awesome because he
scoffs at Snow's idiocy quite often
. That's why I liked him, he's the one down to earth character that actually thinks about stuff.

I dunno if what I've been doing is required... I just did a bunch of shit for some red orbs, and before that, I ran some errands for Eskimos. Definitely fetch quests. Definitely boring.

The game just feels completely aimless at this point.

red orbs, Eskimos.

The red orb stuff is 100% optional I believe, I don't think any actual story content is in either of those zones (that I can remember anyway). Eskimos on the other hand I've no idea what you're referring to.

Let me put it this way. The main story stuff plays like any other traditional JRPG. It's a lot of running through dungeon-like areas and fighting dudes. Talking to people for sidequests are just that, sidequests. You can completely ignore all of those things if you want. Almost any time you go through a time gate that requires a wild artefact you can just just about guarantee it has nothing to do with the main story.

Like I said, only one point in the game where you are forced to do mundane fetch quests.

Hmm... interesting. Alright, I'll give it another shot... sometime in the next week.

with the Brain Blast challenge - there are 3 terminals. Do you only have to do each terminal once or multiple times?

Each terminal is an individual Fragment. You have to beat each one for the Fragment related to that terminal. The questions are all from the same random pool.

Actually, each terminal has its own pool of questions. Also, if you are unlucky, you'll get one of those fucking random 50/50 chance questions.

Yeah...I hated that,it goes well,I would get the easy questions like who is Vanille's Guardian, what color is Serah's eyes and then, what is the last phrase of the second book about tonberry's....wut????? ;)

Found the Core in sucky Academia finally, had to throw Mog down there and quickly go to him because he wouldn't follow me down the wrong way escalators lol,but got it.

Or you could have gone down there, hold LT/L1, and Mog would have come in your hand directly. Then, you would just had to uncover the artefact and get it :3

Save your self the trouble with Captain Cryptic. Just find him under the bridge in the plaza. When he leaves go to the Historia Crux and go back to where he was, if he isn't there, repeat the process. Sure, it might take a few times, but its better than running all over the city to find him.

There's a map on GameFAQs. It seems faster to run around looking at the locations rather than load and re-load hoping he shows up in one spot.

It's like Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. Your odds of getting the first 5-6 questions correct is really high. Beyond that, it's a lot about luck (or cheating).

If any of UK GAF are still hesitant about picking this up for the 360, its now £17.99 from simplygames

I've just got it yesterday on rent from lovefilm, will put it in for a blast later on today. Really enjoyed what I saw in the demo, scratched my JRPG itch more than The Last Story has so far.

By the way is there a way I can find out which/how many Wild Fragments I've used? I still need one to open the Archylte Steppe gate but I've no idea where I can find one because I didn't keep track of which ones I've already used.

I'm at about the same point but I hate him, he looks like and sounds like a Kingdom Hearts character.

There is only 10. Don't forget the one at the Casino. Search youtube for ffxiii-2 wild artefacts. Has a video of all ten.

Yeah but I don't know which ones I've already used cos I didn't make a note. I don't want to have to traipse through 10 areas looking to check if I got them, isn't there a better way? And yeah I can't do the one at the casino.
