Trying to find fragments without a guide is annoying. But it's a step up from losing money at the casino. This will not get platinumed.

No, if you use poison it will take like 4-5 minutes. Use poison, attack him when you can but don't get too crazy, play defensively.

Either this is a flat out lie or you guys all have the best weapons and/or DLC monsters like Omega or whatever. I've already been fighting it with the poison thing for like 30 minutes now and its HP has only gone down like 1/3 or so.

Are your characters max level? They should be max level.

Otherwise you're probably doing something wrong. The thing that was said about imperil on the last page is probably right as well.

Also, I said play defensively, but don't just throw up poison and then sit around with nothing but MEDs and SENs. I usually go SAB/SAB/RAV at the start and then switch to RAV/RAV/RAV after poison and some other debuffs are up, then COM/COM/RAV (don't have a COM monster in my paradigm pack for Yomi) for damage once stagger. Yeah, that usually only lasts a couple seconds or just plain doesn't happen, but it works.

EDIT: Be sure to throw up buffs while Yomi is in its shield. I didn't/don't have a SYN monster (and I wouldn't want to replace my RAV, SEN, or MED anyway) so just defensive buffs from Noel and Serah for me with SYN/SYN/MED. Vigilance REALLY helps with being interrupted, and of course the extra defense will make it so you don't have to switch to a healing paradigm as often.

Yomi is probably the hardest enemy in the entire game in terms of pure stats and stuff, so yeah unless your characters are maxed out completely, and you have good monsters with infused skills to make them really useful, it's not going to be a cake walk. Poison is a valid strategy, but this is also an RPG, so stats do count for a lot. :p

Actually, each terminal has its own pool of questions. Also, if you are unlucky, you'll get one of those fucking random 50/50 chance questions.

There's actually a trick to answering the 50/50 questions. There's a thread on gamefaqs that tells you what the right answer will be 100% of the time on all the 50/50 questions except for one.

Haha, that would have been helpful last week. Although I only had to redo quizzes twice.

My characters are almost max level, they're 99 in their primary roles and 70+ in all other roles. What combination of paradigms and monsters do I need, though? I just spent an hour and a half fighting Yomi, got it down to about half health but then it killed me with its new overpowered uber attack.

SEN/SEN/SEN is a super shield. But how do you heal the damage that you do suffer? :p

Med/Med/Med afterwards :p

Also forget your level for a second. Level has barely anything to do with your stats. What is Noel/Serah's Attack/Magic/HP? If you didn't use large nodes correctly it's very likely your stats are messed up and you need to use monsters as a bit more of a crutch.

Chichu is the most obvious choice and for good reason. Infused and leveled primarily with attack items he will have upwards of 1500 attack, during stagger mine normal attacks yomi for ~80k damage.

Also I will suggest grabbing a Flaninator if you do not have one. For postgame purposes I found him to be the best healer due to his feral link being up constantly and healing your party to full.

I usually go SEN/SEN/SEN for his named moves, then MED/MED/SEN to heal up. Noel and Serah can heal themselves once you have all their MED abilities.

One thing I'd suggest to do is farm Indrajit and Romulus & Remus from Immortal (one of the Archlyte bosses). They have the ability +50% ATB Rate, which is like having Haste on all the time.

OK, guess I will try that next time I play then. Thanks.

Is it better for me to just skip the quests and go thought the story first, and then comeback for quests and optional stuff later? Or is it more convenient to do them while completing story? There was one quest monster that seemed impossible for me to beat at this moment.
(at Yasis mountain(?) AF01X if I remember correctly)

There's no reason to do the harder stuff early unless you want the challenge.

Alright, I'm about to punch a wall, because I just killed Lightning/Amodar for the 50th time and niether of their crystals have dropped. I'm right at the end of the game, and I don't want to advance the story any further until I have Lightning in my party.

I have about 17 Lightning Crosses in my inventory...

Is it worth the time to go finish the Vile Peaks sidequests to get the improved monster crystals fragment?

I'm gonna try and kill her about 5 more times before I smash my PS3 in.

the quests are not required for platinum??

they are. but extra quests FOR me is not harder stuff.. there are plenty of quests that are puzzles or item fetching ..i'd recomand doing them before you go toward the ending ...
ex : Yaschas Massif and variants

the rest of the big battles should be avoided untill post ending .

Actually, I find that after you reach level 99 on three of both Noel and Serah's classes, all of big monsters (Long Gui included) except Yomi are not that hard. It helps to have a SAB on your team though.

But yeah, bcause I heard last boss was hard, I decided to up my skills by fighting the big enemies. And they were not that hard. The only exceptions are Yomi (which is too annoying because he kept using his shield) and Omega DLC (which I haven't attempted).

Yes it definitely is worth the time. I have the ability and got Omega and Lightning on my third try.

Is chocobo racing necessary for any kind of fragments or trophies? If not I won't bother. I don't find it very fun and what I have played of it has been a waste of time outside of getting some materials to buy a weapon with. Which I guess makes it somewhat necessary.

While chocobo racing is not necessary for the Serendipitous trophy, it is the best way to earn the necessary amount of coins for it. Otherwise you will need a lot of luck to earn it through the slot machines.

So do you actually have to earn the coins, or can you just purchase them and get the trophy?

edit: nevermind just looked it up :p

Does submitting your Chocobo to Chocobo race means that you'll lose said Chocobo to be used in your party? Because if that's the case, why would I want to give up my Gold/Silver Chocobo to race?

........ I hate Yomi -_-"

will save it for later, can't deal with it now.. it pissed me off a lot now .

I keep getting it down to about 20% health before the battle becomes unmanageable, and then it turns into me trying to heal and switching to SEN and trying to get a few attacks in here and there. All my roles are maxed, maybe I just need better monsters or something.

You lose your chocobo for as long as you have it registered to race. You can register/deregister your chocobo anytime. The silver chocobo is one of the more popular ones to use for the races and also makes an exceptional sentinel. Luckily you don't have to decide which you'd rather use it for :D

I think my monsters sucks too :\

any suggestion for this stupid battle?

Ok, just beat him. Here's what I did:

I set the game to easy. >_<

Other than that, basically, for me it was a mix of
-buffing during impenetrable aura
-getting poison to stick after using deshell, after that going into SEN/MED if my health could be better, and if not, COM/COM/COM
-switching to COM/COM/COM when my health looked pretty good
-switching to SEN/SEN/SEN just simply on instinct, basically "guessing" when Whicked Whirl is going to be used

Those were the essentials for me. Once I got his health down really low, that's when I went on an ultra-defensive, hardly ever coming out of SEN and just letting poison and the occasional switch to COM do the job.

I wasn't quite anywhere near having maxed out characters or good monsters and Yomi was still having a considerable amount of trouble actually doing damage on me. With that said, I think the biggest hurdle in that fight is doing sufficient damage to him, especially with his barrier shenanigans.

You do get them back when you retire them though, no?

I use a White Chocobo which is probably the next best thing since I want to pump Silver with Vitality only.

Right, which is what I was saying to assure him he could use those chocobos and still have them afterwards. Your post saying there are better Sen/Com's seems irrelevant to what his concerns were :p

I'm fighting Caius to get a paradox ending, it's the fight when you have to kill him with only Serah and the monster, I'm using Lightning, Amodar and Green Chocobo.

I reallyn need help with a strategy, I'm sick of this bastard.

My intention was to suggest that he abandon Silver and Gold if they're the strongest monsters in their respective roles right now and go for better ones, and just leave Silver and Gold in races.

Should've made it clearer I guess.

He will repeatedly regenerate his life. You could repeatedly dispel that (and his other status effects). It's kind of annoying.

Another slow, but effective, method is to use bleed damage to lower his max HP. Once it is almost gone (maybe down to about a quarter of the bar), you should be able to beat him up with either COM/COM or quickly staggering him. Of course, repeatedly cast Protect and switch to SEN/SEN if you can before his strongest attack. You might want MED/SEN and SYN/SEN paradigms, possibly MED/MED. I think he moves a little faster when his HP is low, but the fight should be relatively simple if you keep healing, switching in a sentinel, and recasting Protect. The target time is almost 15 minutes, so I think the developers may have considered that some may use the bleed strategy.

I'm this close to sell this game tomorrow, I can't believe this bullshit, I killed him and he used a phoenix down, he does too much damage and NONE of the strategies seem to work.

I don't know about you, but he keeps using a sombo that insta KO me, first 6 slashes with the sword, then launches me to the air, the a graviton that throws me to the ground and then a limit break, fuck that shit, no amount of healing or Sen is saving me.

I'm gonna look for a way to cheat the bastard...

A SEN WILL save you, unless your SEN is broken and doesn't use provoke (which is impossible). Caius will never attack Serah if you have a SEN out...

It's the hardest fight in the game. I had to play on easy and still I died like 10 times before beating him. Get a good SEN and make sure he doesn't focus on Serah.... like ever.
