Man. I was leaning towards sticking with a female miqo'te, but this reminded me how utterly stupid-looking the torso hole is on the female dragoon set. Thank Althyk for the character change stuff coming, I guess.

that hole is an invitation to get stabbed. it doesn't even look sexy, just nonsensical.

Nope. Having to run around a mob for the same exact effect as characters who just stand still just for the sake of it doesn't make it fun. For me at least.

Considering you should already be behind the mob during any given fight (Except for the inevitable tail whip skill we're sure to see some bosses have), having to run to it's side here and there certainly isn't as bad as you're making it seem by saying 'run around'.

Oi! I have some more questions about gathering/crafting for anyone who got to tinker around:

Does the idea of using class skills cross-class apply to DoL/DoH gatherers/crafters? Any class skills well suited to help navigate/survive in the field?

How do you acquire gatherer/crafter "AF" armor or whatever it's called? Do we learn to craft it ourselves, as part of our craft?

I initially thought that those cat people were going to be female only like in XI, but since that was the opposite, I jumped at creating my character.

I did like the Pugilist class based on how my fighting style looked.

I'm already at L11-12 and completed the class quests until I reach 15, but that's when I got lost for some reason or other. I'm not sure if I should switch to a magic class or one of those other classes (weaver or goldsmiths). Can someone help me with this so I can prepare for this weekend?

I really love the FATE missions, but it can get really chaotic when trying to find a target enemy.

i'm assuming gmg will give you a code that you can use to activate xiv arr on your square enix account which will automatically grant you 30 days free access after launch.

Hm, okay, thanks. If anyone who bought it on GMG could maybe clarify this, that's be swell :)

Both can cross-class skills of same discipline category. For DoL it seems pretty pointless for now (other than for crystal/shard gathering). For DoH it's essential.

Don't think they've said yet. The hats were in 1.x as craftable items, but the rest of the outfits weren't in the game. Chances are they're craftable since the hats were.

Question about short-time buffs. Are they necessary? I use Rampart with my GLD but it only lasts like 20 seconds.
Are these essential for tougher mobs or can I skip them?

i just use them for tougher mobs.i don't feel they make a difference just yet, but at least it's something.

By skip, what do you mean?

20% DMG reduction for 20 seconds is pretty nice, specially when you get into a rough situation.

I use them of course, but some buffs seem pointless and don't last long enough.
I think the bigger problem, for damage buffs, at least, is recast time since 20 seconds is still 7 or 8 WSs but the wait in between buffs is so long I tend to forget about them. Defense ones should last longer, though, since they're a bit more dependent on the enemy doing something to make them worthwhile.

Defense buffs in most MMOs don't last very long - they serve as more of a "oh shit" type of button most of the time. How long is the cooldown for Rampart in XIV ARR?

I had much fun with the beta's so far and i'm looking forward to testing out the duty finder.

Just finished ordering parts for my new gaming rig (GTX780 and i7-3930K) and I look forward to cranking up my settings like some of you here.

Also, does anyone know if the Duty Finder is only for dungeons or for other things like guildhests (I have so much trouble finding people to do them for some reason)?

If they are tapping into FF nostalgia for this game I hope they include some kind of card game. Either Triple Triad or Tetra Master (to a lesser degree) would be a neat inclusion.

Think Guildhest has been confirmed to be part of Duty Finder. The whole point of Guildhest is supposed to be "My First group" content for newer players and it wouldn't make sense for it to be easier to join group content in dungeons then this tool, especially when the content is so short and instanced when the original version wasn't.

No card game is currently planned because Yoshida has not seen an idea good enough yet to implement for game. He wants to make sure if a card game is added it actually adds something to the game rather then novelty for novelty sake.

To answer the part on dyeing artifacts, we plan on keeping their colors as they are for a while. This is because we want to preserve their image, especially early on. Eventually, when people get used to the design or new sets of artifacts are introduced, the option to change colors will become available. That’s our current plan.
I would like to make my armor orange and black. How do you dye things anyway?

There's a quest you do to unlock the Dye skill. Then you can either craft or buy dyes. Then use the skill you apply the dye you have to the armor.

EDIT: Key claimed

After I did the dye quest I briefly looked through my CUL and ALC recipes and didn't see dye recipes. Did anyone find them, or NPCs that sold dye?

Hmm this sounds like we need to level multiple crafts to be effective in any one..?

Curious; were the materials/hats gatherable/craftable within the relevant craft? Like, I'd guess an Alchemist couldn't alchemy into existence their gear... so all crafters have to find a Weaver/Leatherworker for their coolest gear?

btw Thanks for humoring me here while I obsess until Phase 4 ^_^

Only legacy players and pre-order people get early access, 1.0 CE just gets you 1.0 and 2.0 CE digital items.

What is the difference between 1.0 and Legacy? If I played for a couple months at 1.0 launch does that count as making me a Legacy character?

It does not.
You would have had to have paid for 3 months service during the FFXIV Legacy Campaign.

Put simply, anyone who didn't do that does not have legacy.

Hmm, somewhat, but not as much so as in 1.x. You will definitely want alchemist skills that help you gain more time to use actions during a synth. Just with one craft leveled you will be able to make any item that craft can make--it's not like XI where you need subcrafts leveled (it used to be, but not anymore). However, the way the skills are designed you will definitely get a benefit out of leveling other crafts for their skills when it comes to HQing things. Normal synthing it won't matter... and with HQ mats you will be able to HQ with just one craft leveled but not as consistently as someone with multiple crafts leveled... which is a good thing. So, no, you don't need to level multiple crafts to be effective at one, but you will need to to excel at one. Same as battle classes.

Go to http://mooglebox.com/ to review 1.x skills, items, and recipes for comparison. From what I've seen, most recipes in ARR are the same as in 1.x (excluding Dated recipes which are removed now) or at least use the same mats but maybe in different quantities.

Copypasta from a few pages back in community forum thread:

It's important to make sure the distinction between a player with a legacy status account (has the "legacy" status for the sub plan perks in ARR), a legacy player (has an account from 1.x, may or may not have legacy status), and a legacy character (a character from 1.x version of the game, regardless of level or status of the account it belongs to). Similarly, a legacy server (or world) is a world from 1.x that is being migrated to ARR.

The term "legacy" is being used to mean two things in context of ARR. Either "Legacy" status on your account (for paying 3 months of sub when they ran the promotion) or simply "legacy" in the dictionary sense of being handed down from the previous version (thus all the old worlds are "legacy worlds," all 1.x characters are "legacy characters").

So we're thinking phase IV is open beta, right? Or at least phase IV won't have your character wiped. So as a 1.0 CE owner who doesn't have legacy status, but is currently playing in phase III, how am I not going to have early access? This is overly confusing and a little disappointing if they're going to keep the day 1(.0) people out for some currently unknown period of time.

You're going to have your early access during the beta as everyone else. Just use those 2 or 3 days prior to the official launch to visit your family and friends, to stock up on food and water, so you'll be ready to play on the 27th at midnight.

Gotcha. That was my takeaway from the discussion in here, and I suppose that's fair enough. Here's hoping it is indeed only a 2-3 day period, but either way, I'll deal.

Thanks! I'm Legacy. I keep forgetting there's a difference between Legacy and just being a 1.0 player.

Isn't the early access for a solid week (starting on August 20th)?
