Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn - PS4 Beta |OT|

I would say go for the PS3 route if you just want to play the game. You can get the game half off the PS4 version. The downside is you have to download the 10 GB PS4 file. If your connection is crap, you may just dip into the PS4 disc which installs the game for you. The only reason I picked up the PS4 version after PS3 is because the CE comes with some good stuff.

All of the subscriptions are identical, so if you buy one it's valid for every platform that you have the game registered on. :)

I picked it up for less than £10 on Steam, but I'm not sure if that was on offer or a permanent price.

Pretty much. A subscription is limited to the platform in which you play on. That is why when you booted up the PS4 beta, it was asking if you wanted to transfer or start fresh. If you don't transfer, then you can take advantage of the 30 day free trial. The problem is that you are not going to get your PS3 characters. I decided I wanted the free trial more than porting my characters.

Yes but I've just looked at the prices and they appear to be the same on both platforms. I'm not very online savvy so am I missing something?

Could you give me a link to the website you are getting these prices from please.

I bought 4 copies of the PS3 version off Amazon for me and my friends @ £7.60 each. Once they arrived we added the PSN codes to our accounts through the PSN store redeem code and logged into the game on our accounts on a friends PS3 so we would be able to get the free PS4 upgrade.

Here is a link to the PS3 version on Amazon: Final Fantasy XIV - A Realm Reborn (PS3) by Square Enix http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004CVJWU2/

Ok, thanks guys, I'm starting to get a clearer picture now (sorry for my stupidity)

So I buy this from Amazon on the PS3, install it on the PS3, register it on the SE site and then upgrade to the PS4? Is it then just a matter of downloading the PS4 version and signing in with the same account?

Yep - at least this is what I understand :). You need to use the activation code on the PS3 version first before transferring the licence to the PS4 via Mogstation.

Should be the case. We have no confirmation how the subscription thing will transfer. My guess is since the 30 day period is within the timespan, you should be fine. Probably it will take the subscription out of the PS3 and unto the PS4.

The subscription is not platform specific, only the license is.

I believe it's more the service which is being transferred rather than the sub. They are separate. So a single *sub* will work across PS3 and PS4 but you need a service "thingy"
for each install. So if you participated in the PS4 Beta it would have given you a Beta Service entitlement. You can list these through your PSN account options. Stuff like online passes were done this way too.

This means you can't keep playing the PS3 version once you transfer the service entitlement to the PS4.

Edit: Yeah what Sophia said, the "thingy" is a licence :)

One last pitiful question from this complete amateur: I know that you can have more than one character 'in game' but can you also have a completely separate character too. I want my son to be able to play the game.

Ah, that makes sense. I knew you had to have a copy of both games to cross-play. I guess I should say "service" and not "subscription". My bad!

If your account is entry (the cheapest), he can create his own character, but on a different server, because it allows one character per server.
If you account is standard, he'll be able to play on the same server, as it allows 8 character/server.

You can have multiple characters per account (assuming you chose the standard pricing) and their settings (UI, friends list, etc) are all separate.

I'm not sure. I think the licence is tied to the PSN user. So possibly not that way. You could potentially share a sub via the same PSN account if you want - as long as you don't want to play together.

NB: If you share a sub the most basic also only allows for one character per server - but up to 8 characters total. Something to consider.

What I meant is, if you have the PS3 license and buy the PC version, the 30 day "trial" that comes with it adds to the original. As the 30 day subs is about 13€, depending where you buy the PC version it could be cheaper, and you'll get a PC license to boot.

I'm assuming that option is before you actually log in with your character? I noticed it shows a picture of my character and asks me if I want to log in with it. I'm assuming once my son has built his character the menu will offer TWO characters to sign in with and then it's just a matter of picking which one?

Correct, as long as you don't go for the standard subscription (which is one per server).

What's the difference in pricing?

http://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/pr/product/#_pricing

Scroll down to Service Fees

Entry
30 days £7.69 / 10.99 € per month
(1 character per server/max 8 characters)

Standard
30 days £8.99 / 12.99 € per month
90 days £8.39 / 11.99 € per month
180 days £7.69 / 10.99 € per month
(8 character per server/max 40 characters)

So it's the same price per month if you pay for 180 days of the standard.

Yeah, the benefit of the entry is that you get that price on a month-to-month basis. Obviously if you have multiple family members sharing an account it's not the way to go, but for the majority of MMO players it's a really great deal.

No. You'd only have to pay for 180 days up front if you wanted the "standard" sub for the same price as the "entry" sub. If you want to sub month-to-month, the standard sub is 2€ more than the entry.

Sorry, I meant if I want to use the 'standard' and get the same pricing as the 'entry'.

One last pitiful question from this complete amateur: I know that you can have more than one character 'in game' but can you also have a completely separate character too. I want my son to be able to play the game.

You can have more than one character per SE account, however you can only have one SE account per PSN account. So yes you can have multiple characters on one account but you can only have one logged in playing at a time also adding extra character will increase the subscription by a certain amount, think it is around £1 extra per character a month.

If you wish to play with your son so both are logged in at the same time you will need two copies of the game, with two different PSN accounts and two SE accounts and pay two full subscriptions.

My son uses my PS4 so there's no problem there.

You have to pay extra per character even if you go with the standard subscription?

No, adding characters will never increase subscription costs.
Entry accounts can have 8 characters total, 1 per server, for 12,99.
Standard accounts can have 40 characters, 8 per server, for 14,99.

If you buy your time in bulk, the standard becomes cheaper.

You're talking dollars I'm assuming?

Could I buy the PS3 version later and still upgrade to the PS4 or do I need to do this before the PS4 version releases?

God, I'm looking more moronic by the post! lol. Thanks for that.

I'm assuming I will sign into the PS3 version with the same account I used in the Beta or will I have to start again? I'm not too bothered if I have to do that.

You should be able to keep the same account, no need to create another. You can log into the Mog Station now and see your expired Beta licences.

Is the early access code a PSN code or does it need to be entered into the Mogstation?

EDIT: Well PSN took it, so I guess that's that!

It won't allow me to sign in. It just tells me the SE Id is wrong. If I do a search for my characters name it brings it up with no problem. What IS the SE ID relating to?

If you preorder the game on amazon.com you you receive both the early access code + preorder items (mog hat + cat minion) immediately or just the early access code?

If you created you account from the PSN it's probably your PSN account ID. If not, check your confirmation email, the name should be there.

Well, that's weird. I WAS putting the correct ID in but it wasn't working. I've just reloaded the page and it is working now.

Where's the best place to post feedback/suggestions? I really want to push for a 30fps cap option but I can't figure out where on the official forums to make the thread (or post in an existing one).

Go to the Lodestone. Forum button. Log in. Post to the PS4 beta forums. They do take suggestions from the forums, and regularly reply there. Your request is likely to be answered too seeing as the PC version already has a 30 FPS cap option and I use it regularly.

Thanks! I find Lodestone tricky to navigate.

So in my mogstation thing, my ps3 beta characters can be selected but my most recent ps4 one is greyed out. Anyone know what the deal is with that? I was planning to pick up a cheap copy for ps3 and mess around for a few days then switch it over to my ps4.

PSA: People have already said this, but just a friendly reminder:

If anyone else never received early access code from Amazon (you're supposed to get it about two days after placing the order, not after it ships) be sure to live chat their customer support, I did so about an hour ago and was already sent a code.

What?

The blog says the PS+ discount is as follows:

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Collector’s Edition $44.99 $59.99
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Standard Edition $24.99 $39.99

This is a cute post.

But there are good reasons to not run around with your head cut off; and they mainly involve playing in groups and not dragging mobs around everywhere.

It's funny that you tought that, because all classes are mostly the same in that regard because of the Global Cooldown.
MNK and BRD are push button > wait for GCD > push button.
Mages are push button and wait for GCD while casting > push button

That is only true in the solo content (which is quick and easy). In the dungeons you'll have to play the job at its fullest to be able to deal high damage and you'll be at the enemies's backs 100% of the time. If not, either the tank is not doing his job or you are attacking the wrong target.
In fact, when you get to higher levels on a Bard, you'll stand still most of the time, while a Monk has to move much more in order to alternate between flank/back.

Also, to avoid any confusion, remember that Pugilist is PGL.
PUG means pick-up group, and a lot of new players think everyone hates pugilists because we always complain about pugs :p

Well, any of the group play stuff is completely irrelevant to me. The only time I do group play is when the main story forces me to do it to continue the story.

After that, I never do it again.

I personally hate the dungeons.

I dont like the fact that everyone has to play a clear distinct role and cant do anything outside of that. I dont like the restrictiveness of that. And when I try to do anything outside of my role, like healing someone, or attack another target, others in the party goes off in the chat and tell me how to play. I'm a grown ass man, I play how I want.

So for that reason, I play by myself.

I don't like partying up with others nor talking to them.

I know, I know, that it may seem strange to play an social MMO by yourself, but this game is the closest thing to an RPG on the PS4 at the moment so im kind of stuck with it as 80% of the games I buy are RPG's, its all I practically play.

Being able to play how i want to play is one reason I'd rather play the elder scrolls online on PS4 than this game. Wither that be building my character how ever I see fit and choose to play the game single player or multiplayer. But Elder Scrolls on PS4 aint out yet.

But yea, I like the archer class as it gives me the most control, survivability, and fun for a person playing alone.

My archer has a very high Mind rating, so my healing is good enough to heal 1/3 of my health, but still not conjurer level of good though. But I can still cast protect, raise, and healing spells on myself and others I see in the wild. So I can handle myself without the need of anyone helping me.
