Final Fantasy XV Demo Previews/Impressions Thread

I kinda want to wait until the game is done. Its been such a long wait. My younger self would be so pissed off at future me for not playing the demo though. I'm so conflicted.

Odd that no one has commented on the new music. Nice to see the diversity return. Some easy lounge style music and some country-ish tunes! Nice to see the variety!

In fairness, FFXIII's score was fairly diverse in its own right. XIII-2 had vocal tracks and touched on pop rock, rap, and acid jazz.

Honestly, Shimomura has a very identifiable wheelhouse, so diversity in sound is something she's catching up to, not introducing.

I know, right? Parasite Eve has basically the same soundtrack as Super Mario RPG and Street Fighter 2.

The demo trailer already likely spoiled the "big surprise."

It's probably
Ifrit, as evidence by the ground markings (fire/lava/whatever).

Has it been confirmed that this demo will be separate and not apart of the game, I'm hoping to be able to enjoy the demo how long I want even if I return my game during the summer once I'm done with it. Hoping to get at least 25 for it.

You get a code to download the demo with Type-0 HD, it does not come with the disc.

Thanks for the clarification, for some reason I still am worried that there will be some type of verification for this demo.

Also FFXIV looks cool but it seems so confusing and I don't know how active the community is on GAF. I want to try it out but I'm not sure if it is worth the subscription.

I don't really have time to watch vids. Anyone that's seen Xbox One gameplay, is it up to par with PS4?

They both look awesome. Really couldn't tell a difference between the two.

Also, I'm loving the overall feel/look of the game. Not concerned over the big changes stated in Kotaku's impressions. I'm expecting the game to be very similar to Xenoblade on the Wii (which is amazing).

some of the gameplay videos just show how shitty people are at games. especially that famitsu one. the player is just standing there slowly walking backwards in the middle of battle. but some of the other gameplay vids have the player constantly attacking, dodging, doing combos etc. like ??? whats your deal famitsu?

And a lot of the footage is the same, so a lot of those videos we don't get to see the same people talking and playing the game.

Gorgeous environments are useless if you can't provide a stable experience. Fix your shit Square.
It's a demo in an unfinished engine, seriously...

Game doesn't even have a release date.
Calm down.

Your point is? The company has become so damn obssessed with graphics technology it will barely change. Need I remind you this is the company that released XIII-2 and LR well below 30 fps in a lot of cases. I'm absolutely done with this piss poor excuse.

They should always put someone capable of playing action games on display, Kojima does it all the time to highlight high level play.

People seriously forget Bloodborne. Just a few months ago it was shown to the press with frame drops and other issues. NOW. It's in much better shape.

Only 2 weeks left till I get type 0 and the demo, good solid gaming till the month of June With the other big releases.

Who's got the marketing rights to this? Sony or MS? Or haven't either of them got the marketing rights?

All I know is there is a huge gap on Amazon between both versions of the game this demo comes with:

PS4: #9 FF Type-0 (PS4)

XB1: #204 FF Type-0 (XB1)

To me common sense would say Sony should have the marketing rights. This is going to sell in Japan so no doubt PS4 will be the console that gets the shine.

and I think FF type 0 HD is going to sell tons more on PS4 so that could have something to do with it as well. Only time will tell but I have a hard time believing MS will lock up marketing rights.

Yeah these impressions sound really good. The new descriptions on how massive and filled this world is just amazing and shows how juxtaposing this game is FFXIII linearity. The combat seems to balance players between being tactical and heavily action based which is a great way to keep the old Final Fantasy players pleased. All the callbacks to the old games such as
Magitek, Magicite, and the Chocobo Ranch
really shows how much love the developers seem to be putting into this game. I honestly can't wait to try this out.

Yes, see my edit. :)

Here's my impressions from playing the game yesterday. USgamer.

Short of it, open-world game with combat that's somewhat like Kingdom Hearts. Visually, it looks good, but the PS3 lineage shows through occasionally and there were framerate hiccups and tons of aliasing.

I'm curious, what parts exactly made that impression to you mostly?
I very much doubt we're still seeing any PS3 assets (the E3 '13 trailers obviously still used PS3 character models). Some textures might be rough from up close because at this scale you just have to make compromises somewhere, especially for vegetation that makes up so much of the world.

The technical optimization process will only really start towards the end of the development, so obviously the demo is still rough. It's the nature of game development and even more so for games with this ambitious a scale.

Great impressions if you really read some of the articles completely.
You know, I'd honestly be okay with Fall '16. Give them time to make the best out of this. A lot is riding on FFXV's shoulders when it comes to FF's AAA future.

I'm getting really tired of that demo area already. I think they've been showing it waaay too much in the last couple of months. I'm sure there's a lot of content there that hasn't been shown, but I feel like I've walked through those fields a thousand times already, and I'm not sure that's something you want to feel before you even begin playing.

edit: Then again, it does look like you can walk pretty far so I guess it'll be fine.

Oh, well... the Kotaku preview has me a bit worried, hopefully the issues they mentioned are sorted out. Thanks for the answer.

I'm sure they will be. Unfortunately this is kind of a rushed demo to release alongside Type-0. I always felt this demo was more to show off the battle system and game systems more so than show off the world. Which still looks amazing.

optimization is usually the last thing done in development and we're still talking about a game that's at least a year away.

Gotta go on blackout my friend, I mean what else can they show? New areas/story elements are expected at e3 and other major events.

I agree but it's the most completed part of the game they have right now. I remember they stated recently that the city, Insomnia, was still being worked on in one of their more recent Active Time Reports. E3 definitely seems to be the moment where they start unveiling more areas and plot points of the game with Tokyo Jump Festa having even more.
