Final Fantasy XV Gamescom Active Time Report - CNN reporting live from disaster scene

My theory is that Regis has to look more like another character for whatever plot changes they made. Maybe Idola or the obviously villainous Lucis guy from the 2013 trailer, who both probably got (less severe) redesigns themselves.

I'd be more receptive to the not-Regis theory if they hadn't straight up called him Regis already and even then I would imagine they would start hinting at a father conspiracy in the game itself, not in the middle of the marketing period.

I think a lot of elements from the really early concept stuff from 2006-2008 have remained in tact.

Stuff like "Nifilheim" and "Idola Eldercapt" could be heard on the radio in previous trailers.

We have seen concept art showing the overworld outside Insomnia and it looks exactly like what Nomura showed in the TGS2010 Gameplay reveal.

It's not a completely different game.

Exactly. Tabata has talked about a calamity which made the world the way it is and that was something since the beginning I remember Nomura talking about as well

Yeah, that's the weird thing about this.

Would be cool if magic was like Avatar/Legend of Korra moves.

Not likely. Like with many other aspects of the revamped system, magic probably looks like this but now has a different lore reason.

-The reason wasn’t that King Regis previous design didn’t fit in the game, Tabata actually liked it and said that they have a good reason for it, though it’s a huge spoiler for the rest of the game so they won’t tell you why yet. They are going to reveal what’s not the case soon.

Nice!

New Regis >> Old Regis anyways.

I was hoping that at least Stella's powers will be available to Luna. Figures that's gone too......

My guess is that Story changes decided upon Noctis being the one chosen by the gods Hence why Luna is shoved in the Dawn trailer and deemed "worthless". But for all we know she could very well have powers just like Noctis so maybe for story reasons they're down playing it at the moment.

With the confirmation that Leviathan is summoned by a woman I wouldn't count on Noctis being the only special snowflake or that his powers are unrivaled.

Mmh.. It seems I'm quite behind the news. Was that confirmed in an interview?

I don't think that happened, the concept artist said that Tabata asked him to design Leviathan as a refined woman / female.
So Leviathan herself is at least a female, but the word he used 女性 could also mean woman, as in human.

I personally think he meant this painting, as it was discussed next in the same Q&A.

Leviathan should be the fish tailed woman on the left side, and along her Bahamut.

But who knows, maybe Leviathan has a human form in the game, that he blurted out.

They said in regards to the demo build.

Well, they said it again that they're not happy with how it looks. They're not talking about the demo anymore so they're probably talking about how it looks in their development build.

I'm guessing how it looks is low priority considering they said the same thing last year.

I think the problem is getting it to run without tanking framerate.

Similar to Noctis'.

This pretty much. I mean all that talk in the party scene made it seem that they face identical scenarios as far as the "seeing the light" stuff goes. Now it's only Noct.

Or he is just being "careful on the issue" and easing the info in. :P

Anyway I'm not complaining. I've already made up my mind that versus is dead and this is now a different and unique game. What they've shown of the game is amazing imo.

Nomura showed probably the most exciting part of the game at E3 2013 since Altissia is supposed to be the most important place in the game. That wasn't a smart thing to do for the long run lol.

Regarding the new Regis is not Regis theory, I rewatched the 2013 trailer (
assuming this even carries over to the final game)
and the scene with young Noctis eating the soup seems to fit tone-wise with a young kid not accustomed to royalty.

He also looks sad, so maybe he misses his real dad?

Hmm.

Yeah. Consoles suck. There's no way it looks remotely as good as it did at E3 2013 in that gameplay video they released after the re-reveal. That was running on PC.

FFXIII magics were fantastic for its time (well everything graphically was...) I don't have doubts they'll make something visually amazing this time too. If S-E is definitely good at something is mixing graphics with awesomeness!

I wonder if Stella was removed/morphed into Luna because it kind of seems like all the stuff about people who've suffered through a NDE see the "light" in the sky and the connection that had to the Amano-designed god of death & larger storyline seems to have disappeared from the current FFXV in favor of a simpler "they know each other from childhood and Luna went through some shit when their country was invaded" storyline. All that red-star-in-the-sky stuff seemed to be what largely connected Stella & Noctis to each other and maybe lead to whatever their storyline would have been in the game. If they've removed that in favor of a more straightforward story, that could at least be a part of the explanation why they needed a new character instead of just slightly altering Stella's story in the game.

They've already shown the same area in a more current build looking the same, even better in some ways (runs more smoothly, character models are A LOT better all around, animations are perhaps a bit more polished etc.)

I'm not talking about polygon count, lighting, etc. Particle effects and physics calculations have always been the most taxing, and we see that a lot already with FFXV in the demo.

What... Kind of question is that...?

I totally posted that without finishing lol co worker sat down next to me on break

Basically it seems like they're chasing a broken game how can they make 14 so good yet have so many issues with developing 15 or whatever issues I've read of so far

I mean games had the same characters for years and no one knows who they are so they can't be that compelling maybe I'm wrong but

Curious as to why square is so remarkably inconsistent these days I guess

Why are they making this game?

To show Noctis-sama our savior.

Gladio... Prompto... Ignis... Noctis. Long ago, the four BFF's lived together in harmony. Then everything changed when the Niflheim Nation attacked. Only Noctis, master of all four elements, could stop them. But when the world needed him most, he vanished. Almost a decade passed and Tabata-san discovered the new Final Fantasy. And although his sword teleporting skills are great, he still has a lot to learn before he's ready to save anyone. But I believe Noctis can save the world.

Then what ARE you talking about? We have a more current build that looks better than what they showed in 2013 in pretty much every way, at worst some of the assets are exactly the same and the IQ still needs some work (not that it was any better in 2013). Apart from the gameplay differences, the E3 2013 vs. Fall 2014 footage shows a pretty clear difference between a build that still seemed to use some PS3-originated assets and wasn't as far along in development vs. something that has seen almost 1,5 years worth of extra development/polish/improvements.

Really good looking magic like the spell from E3 2013 would require a lot of physics calculations for like a billion different particles. We see in Duscae that the framerate tanks a lot when there are a lot of particles on the screen, like when Ramuh uses the Judgement Bolt and also when you have the Armiger activated.

It's immediately obvious here. When Ramuh actually uses his attack and the particle effects go off, the frame rate drops ~6 fps on PS4.

Characters changing (design-wise, story-wise), some parts of a story being ripped out, others being included and other stuff done differently during development than some concept trailers 9 years ago is nothing new for any kind of fiction, least alone games. The difference is that we saw some of the early story & character concepts before the game went into full production and a majority of the changes were made to the game + this game went through a shift from one generation to the next as well as a change in directors. There are bound to be differences that don't have anything to do with "this game is a disaster in the making" level problems.

They showed the same spell in 2014 and while it did affect the framerate, it was also cast during heavy rainfall (+ with all the other improvements to the graphics and with more & better looking characters on screen), not to even mention the E3 battle trailer had framerate problems of its own. And the Ramuh summon is just insane, the regular spells probably won't be quite as taxing to the hardware.

Yeah, they just displayed the original concepts way too early, and in way too expensive format, before the project was actually greenlighted for full production.

A bit related, this appeared some days ago and reminded me of FF XV.
Fury Road had it even worse regarding time it took to finally materialize, but in the end, it came out okay.

Framerate already takes quite a hit, on battle with a few particle effects and with several enemies on the field. Adding magic to that and we would be probably looking at 20fps or less.

Probably one of the reasons why they are holding it.

Going with my, it's not Regis theory.

Don't do this to yourself :(

This is ridiculous man, now I see why Nomura was always quiet about the game cause he'd rather stay shut about development rather than be dishonest with us. Always knew something was fishy ever since Tabata took over.

What's fishy about it?

The part where he said he lied to us since last year so Versus fans wouldn't be mad, that's really aggravating. I've heard and seen enough at this point the dude is not good at speaking out to the people and should probably stop for the better and have someone else talk or just wait until release.

What do you mean?

Nomura had multiple years of infuriatingly vague quotes in Famitsu. He was no better in this regard.
