Final Fantasy XV Gamescom Active Time Report - CNN reporting live from disaster scene

This is ridiculous man, now I see why Nomura was always quiet about the game cause he'd rather stay shut about development rather than be dishonest with us. Always knew something was fishy ever since Tabata took over.

#whenyouspendtoomuchtimethinkingaboutFFXV

Guilty of it myself though.

Lying is way worse than staying quiet.
Could you point to where he lied? Tabata just didn't give the answers people wanted.

Not once did he say that the story was the same nor did he ever show that. He has to take a lot of blame but not for things he never did.

Nomura had multiple years of infuriatingly vague quotes in Famitsu. He was no better in this regard.

It was different back then than it is now, no denying that. This was when Versus was fresh in development. The type of hints Nomura gave us was towards the game, story, and it's characters.

Now the type of news that Tabata gives us are stuff like if characters are in the game or not whether features will make in in the game or not and these are concerns worrying many.

Why weren't were worried back then like we are now?

Tabata didn't lie though, he stayed quiet.

Tabata said from the start that it was the same game that we saw in 2013 back at October 2014, but they had to be implemented into the new engine. I could compile so much stuff he said from ATRs that turned out not being true. No Tabata did not stay quiet at all he himself has gone back on many things.

I agree. People seem to have forgotten those dark, sad and desperate days of Versus XIII.

Tabata is actually getting things done. Under his direction, we have been shown more of this game, and we have actually been given the opportunity to PLAY IT.

Back under Nomura we would get the eventual trailer and tidbits of info every two years.

This game used to be nothing but vaporware. I love Nomura's work and style, but Tabata is the man that is actually pushing this game forward. Changes were made, sure, but we knew so little of Versus XIII that I personally don't mind.

When I see FFXV, I still see that game I so wanted to play back in 2006. Versus was my most anticipated game for almost 10 years now, and FFXV took its place.

The part where he said he lied to us since last year so Versus fans wouldn't be mad, that's really aggravating. I've heard and seen enough at this point the dude is not good at speaking out to the people and should probably stop for the better and have someone else talk or just wait until release.

Eh, that's not what he said though.

Tabata just said that in the trailers between TGS (2013, I guess) and Episode Duscae they wanted to focus on core gameplay and decided not to show that much of the story (that included changes), to convince Versus XIII fans that it's still a good game.

Those trailers still displayed Luna and changes to the beginning, so they were not a lie.
Regis could've been redesigned after them, but we don't know.

TGS 2013 was false but can't blame Tabata for that, it was still Nomura's lot.

When I saw the Versus XIII stuff and heard everything being done I knew what I was getting in to and what to expect.

Now I have NO IDEA wtf is going on or what this game is turning out to be and I have no expectations only skepticism.

This is actually turning out to be a real game, a game that will actually see the light of day, something we will actually be able to play. Unlike whatever Nomura was doing back in the day.

Wasn't Nomuras fault and I'm sure this has been said before. Once again people need to stop acting like Nomura doesn't ship games.

There is a multitude of reasons why Versus wasn't finished, you should know this.

Yeah, let's throw the three biggest projects ever conceived in the history of Square Enix on the back of the same guy at the same time and then complain how he wasn't the great savior of the entire JRPG genre.

C'mon guys, I'm pretty disappointed we're never getting Versus XIII myself, but let it go. Let's enjoy FFXV for what it is and hope that Nomura will blow us away even harder with FFVIIR and KH3 with this weight off his shoulders.

I wonder what is Nomura's roll with KH3 nowadays. Tai Yasue is the guy putting the work.

Why weren't were worried back then like we are now?

Because...Game development is malleable, fan expectation is not.

Tabata has a budget to keep, a deadline to make, and is working with a notably difficult engine. He presumably has full knowledge of what is and is not possible with the tools and resources at his disposal and, at least from what I can tell, has not overreached himself with promises for the final game since he took over the director's seat.

These features he's cutting are apparitions promised by another man, before he was ever involved, and for a game that was barely ever in active development for a different engine and platform.

Announcing Versus XIII so early was such a stupid idea on SE's part.

I bet Tai Yusue is doing the heavy lifting for KH3 now.

What possible plot point could require a design change?

The thing that instantly came to my mind was "new Regis dies, Noctis is raised by old Regis", but we've seen new Regis with young adult Nocits in the artwork already, so that's not it.

I can't help but always get the impression that they should just shut up about those things and make a real trailer where they show some of that stuff.

This right here. It's too bad the project failed, for whatever reasons, but it did.

FFXV is now Tabata's project, handed to him by SE management with all the authority to make changes he needs to.
He got funds, people and a deadline and he's got to carry it all over the finish line.

I just feel some people blame him for not being Nomura, that's crazy.

Doesn't that artwork still have the old Versus XIII middle-aged Regis design, just wearing new Regis's clothes?

Maybe the outfit is something ceremonial that all Lucis kings have to wear.

I mean, the original Regis was made for Nomura's world and his characters. It wasn't just a randomly put together design. Tabata's Regis has the same meaning and significance put into it for his own game. It's pretty simple. You don't stick with a design if it doesn't mesh with your broader vision of the project. Same thing with Luna.

Except that would make sense if Luna didn't look like Stella with a slightly different chin and pinned up hair.

Exactly He is in a damned if he does, damned if he doesn't position.

For Tabata, that could be a big enough of a difference that he felt that the design needed to be changed. I'm just providing the reasoning as to why redesigns exist in the first place, for anything.

Like, Nomura changed Stella numerous times. We saw three iterations of her. I'm sure it made sense for him to change Stella for each iteration.

I'm hurt that Kitase removed Nomura's masterpiece, Squall Mulletheart from FF8, boo.

This stuff changes... We just usually don't know until we've played the game.

Final Fantasy X sucks.

Final_Fantasy_X_Early_Concept_Art.jpg

I wish we got this game instead. Yuna looks so much better but they scrapped her for the crap we have now...sigh.

forreal FFX really does suck tho...at least 40 hours in. A shame since the world is incredibly well done.

Guys, please, stop treating me like a hater. You're making the same points I made in this very thread to defend the redesigns, I just think this particular statement seems weird.

Here's the snip:

"-The reason wasn’t that King Regis previous design didn’t fit in the game, Tabata actually liked it and said that they have a good reason for it, though it’s a huge spoiler for the rest of the game so they won’t tell you why yet. They are going to reveal what’s not the case soon."

If not for that, I'd be just in the "it didn't fit anymore, so he changed it, no big deal" camp as well, but he went out of his way to say that's not the case.

This, and also the fact that he mentions that giving details would spoil the plot. If it was just as simple as "it didn't fit, we changed it", he wouldn't have said so, on the contrary, he went out of his way to say he liked that design and it wasn't because it didn't fit anymore, but for a particular story reason.

I'm not even complaining, I prefer new Regis, but I really can't think of any specific story examples that could justify that. At all.

Doesn't that artwork still have the old Versus XIII middle-aged Regis design, just wearing new Regis's clothes?

Maybe the outfit is something ceremonial that all Lucis kings have to wear.

Does it? That would make it still possible. Huh.

Ha ha, indeed.

Re the whole Nomura vs Tabata thing: not everything has to be a dialectic.

It's very possible for both directors to have made mistakes during their tenure, to both have made good moves, and to both have suffered from company-level mismanagement.

I offer myself as evidence: I was excited for Nomura's vision, and suspect he could have realized it with more man power and without having to deal with a console change. However, I'm also excited for what we've now seen of Tabata's vision, and am certainly pleased that he seems to be moving the project forward at a reasonable pace.

Getting hung up on who lied or didn't is a bit silly. We've seen how the sausage is made on this one, and yes, it's ugly, but it's not Nomura or Tabata's fault.

Not treating you like a hater. I know you're actually level-headed. I'm just answering what you said if Regis did indeed get a redesign and there aren't two Regis characters in the game. If he got a redesign, then it's probably because he didn't fit in to the game that Tabata is making. Any other reasoning wouldn't make sense. I didn't take it as you actually thinking that there are two Regis characters in the game.

But anyway, we really shouldn't look too deep into concept art either. One concept art has the facial structure of the old Regis, while the other (with the car) shows someone who looks totally different from the old Regis.

We might be too hung up on an interview that's said to have been mistranslated over and over again from German speakers.

That looks amazing.

Except that would make sense if Luna didn't look like Stella with a slightly different chin and pinned up hair.
For plot reasons, she's going to get a chin-job and let her hair down in the last third of the game and become the Stella you all need.
Not the one you deserve.
Then everyone who cares will go crazy for how amazing it is, or lament the fact that they now prefer the Luna design.

I'm definitely interested in seeing how the storyline and characters unfold in the final game and eventually seeing how people receive it all.
Final Fantasy X sucks.

This stuff changes... We just usually don't know until we've played the game.

The big difference is they change what we have been seeing for years in front of us.

In 2013 when they re-revealed versus as XV, Stella's design was drastically changed. Many people on the internet and here were complaining about Stella's design change.

So it's not just people are blaming because it's Tabata. People are not happy when they see designs they liked gets changed, to something they don't like.

There's no such thing as a game that stays the same during development. He probably didn't think he had to clarify something so obvious.

Some will like her (even females) and some won't.
Also some just won't admit liking her because they might fear to be thought as sexists.
late to this cause banned. But this is crap. George Kamitani is one of my favorite artist and he isn't light on fanservice by any means. Sorceress, Amazon? I will defend those designs to the death. Cindy is just crap.

edit: And some of you people are crazy the old Regis design is so good.

Oh no, I don't mean actually two Regis characters, maybe they gave one of them a different name, I mean. Just using old Regis and new Regis because it's easier.

In 2013 when they re-revealed versus as XV, Stella's design was drastically changed. .

Don't forget that also Noctis's design during Nomura's time was drastically changed, perhaps way more than Stella/Luna. I haven't heard complains.

Also... what shocks me is how people can be attached to a project (VsXIII) that we now know wasn't more than few scripts and story boards with some 3d concept running. Tabata is not changing anything. Tabata is actually making something of the trash left to him. Why he gets the blame instead of a man (nomura) that for years couldn't get his vision and concept for his game successfully realized ending up in being forcingly replaced by the management because he wasn't going anywhere?

If anything we should side with Tabata and the stress he must feels giving "nothing" a "shape", knowing he is fighting to convince some fans that what they thought in their head was a game (the "nothing") wasn't more than concepts losely tied together.
