Final Fantasy XV Gamescom Active Time Report - CNN reporting live from disaster scene

Probably the wrong thread but I was watching some anime at crunchyroll and had this FF XV commercial appear every single time it got the chance, followed by "Download the 2.0 demo now for free!" at the end. Did they just make the demo publicly available now?

No, they're just advertising Duscae 2.0 3 months after the fact.

No, the 2.0 patch for Episode Duscae is free. You still need first print of Type-0 HD to get Episode Duscae.

Oh ok. The commercial made it seem like the demo was available for everyone now. Actually, I think its also kind of weird for a demo to even have a commercial or marketing associated with it to begin with.

pissing off hardcore fans who bought Type-0 HD for the demo?

Meh, I myself bought Type-0 HD just for the demo. I don't care if they make it free now. I just think they shouldn't waste anymore time making separate demo to let people have a taste of FFXV like they're going to do.

People who bought Ground Zeroes for 39,00 euros are now pissed of when it sells for less than half than that? I don't think so. Are people who bought a full retail game for 69,00 euros mad because Ps+ today gives it for free? I don't think so.

I bought Type-0 HD and had the demo. I would be happy seeing more people enjoying it for free.

Yup totally agree! Hope more people get to enjoy Duscae!

And type-0 was worth every penny I spent on it at launch, more so than many recent full price games tbh

They shouldn't devote anymore time to make another demo. Instead, just make Episode Duscae free without being tied to Type-0 HD.

I don't know how much time it costs to separate and modify a finished area of the game in order to release it for demo reasons. Basically I agree, they shouldn't devote too much extra time on that, but maybe its part of their marketing/advertising plan.

IMO, I don't really get why people are saying vsXIII was just a couple of storyboards and concept art, when we got a full fledged 6-minute trailer showing the gamplay, the world, and even more cutscenes. It wasn't fully voiced, but there was already voice acting in it, which probably meant that the script was already mostly finalized.

I mean yeah, maybe the hate for Tabata's XV is uncalled for, but unless they show us something more than what they are, some people will remain regretting losing Nomura's vision for the game.

I enjoyed the duscae demo more than the whole type0 hd though lol

At launch, Type-0 HD was virtually unplayable due to the motion blur. Glad you liked it, but it was horrible for me. Literally had to shut it down after 20 minutes of play and decided to trade it in. Easy choice to make anyway considering the game itself wasn't really my cup of tea from what I've played of the original on PSP.

Episode Duscae is better but still not great. I have no idea where those positive ratings on the demo come from.

I think it's not uncalled for at all. He's made a lot of questionable comments on the direction of the game since he's taken over, some may been conceived as flat out lies, poor, unexciting game trailers, underwhelming game demo, etc. Also his track record isn't very good. Crisis Core was decent. Type-0 was pretty awful IMO. He was also called the savior of FFXV by Kotaku, quite lol-worthy, but that's more of Kotaku's issue.

First, personally I wouldn't mind as much. But I am sure there will be many fans who will be pissed if this happens, since many are already pissed at Tabata for other reasons.

Second, it's about credibility. Tabata has said firmly many times that the only way to get ED is by buying Type-0 HD first print. Now if they release it for free later, his words become lies. Of course things change over time and it could benefit SE by having more people try out ED, but there will always be people who will be pissed that Tabata didn't keep his words.

The big difference is they change what we have been seeing for years in front of us.

In 2013 when they re-revealed versus as XV, Stella's design was drastically changed. Many people on the internet and here were complaining about Stella's design change.

So it's not just people are blaming because it's Tabata. People are not happy when they see designs they liked gets changed, to something they don't like.

Well yeah that's where they made the greatest mistake, Versus XIII should have never seen the light of day in the state it was, it was too early.
Even Tabata said that, but he can't do anything about it now. He just has to do his duty as the director, get the game out in the way he thinks is best, and endure the hate any Versus fans might throw at him.

late to this cause banned. But this is crap. George Kamitani is one of my favorite artist and he isn't light on fanservice by any means. Sorceress, Amazon? I will defend those designs to the death. Cindy is just crap.

Then you're in the camp who doesn't like it, it's no problem at all, right?
Like I said, not everyone likes the same things. I'm not a fan of George Kamitani's style myself, but I respect him for doing his stuff.

I like Cindy's design alot. I just don't like the way they changed her name in english -.-'

They really shouldn't.

It's a stripped down and barebones version of the game that does a poor job at creating exciting for the full game.

As a free demo I think it's actually one of the best I've seen. Don't be so negative. It's a DEMO and full of 3hrs+ of content. Not that bad don't you think?

They should consider making Episode Duscae 2.0 freely downloadable without needing the base game.

They should stop giving people bad impressions of their game. So no.

Content is not the problem, although I wouldn't say is that great, is the quality of it.

I've decided to ignore everything about FFXV until it's released starting now, as everything will have a negative spin due to the development history and previous expectations, and I don't want to get too down on the game before playing it.

Content is not the problem, although I wouldn't say is that great, is the quality of it.

I remember the reception from both the journalists and the players were quite enthusiastic when it released. Of course after analyzing it as a full retail game for 6 months things change a bit, but that's not what a DEMO is for. I think the first impression is what it counts and the DEMO leaves, mostly, a positive impression. Especially with a casual community of players I say.

People are more critical of games these days more than ever.

The general average joe who tries the demo wouldn't give it a fair assesment like you get on enthusiast forums. They don't necessarily know it's lacking a magic system, graphics, etc....

End of the day Duscae is still a slice of the game that has....

-Unfinished combat systems
-No ability systems
-No magic
-Unfinished visuals and polish
-Performance Issues
-Tacked on sidequests not even in the final game
-No weather systems
-No wildlife and varied creatures
-No driving
-No chocobos

And probably a lot more too.

Move on and give the masses a demo next year that represents all the elements the final game will have and also closer to the actual release when hype is in full effect.

That is better marketing for the game.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Am I sexist though? :P

No I'm not assuming that, but these days there are crazy people who actually do accuse people who like to watch or produce more sexy / erotic art.
And I think it's wrong, since it's just human nature to appreciate female or male beauty.

Because of those people someone might be hesitant to speak out their honest opinion, but I didn't mean it as any kind of generalization. There's also people who really don't like that stuff, and those who openly admit to liking it no matter what others think.

I'm not even sure what's the argument here... did one of us misunderstand something? lol
My general viewpoint is just, regarding art, let all flowers bloom instead of shaming artists to self-censor themselves.

I wouldn't be surprised if they put a new demo with NieR 2 or whatever to get some extra copies sold. There's DQH II and DQXI, but those don't need an FF demo to sell well in Japan.

I would have to agree and I actually enjoyed the demo too, even though it had these problems. I guess i was in a mind set saying that this is all going to change by release anyway.

You're describing what a DEMO is basically. A DEMO.
I think would be better to not waste more resources on a new demo btw considering how consuming is producing one when they have one already working fine not yet released to the mass. Maybe they can update this if they like... considering the casual crowd though it seems more than enough to me. They ll not be playing it fully anyway.. graphics and catchy battles are what sells it anyway.

You're describing what a DEMO is basically.

Eh, what most people think when you say "demo" means a playable small part of the final game one or two weeks before release, not early (alpha) builds like Episode Duscae. See free demos on PSN.

Except many people - especially casual players - see demos as something representative of the final product.

I'm trying to think of demos with so much missing. Not even previous FF games were missing as much as Duscae.

Oh cmon. Ffxii and Ffxiii demos were shit compared to episode duscae. Like I said I've found episode duscae one of the best demos I played in my life for free. Ground zeroes is good too but that, well, costed me 39 euros.

I always saw Ep. Duscae as an Early Access aimed to Versus/General FF hardcore fans, rather than a proper demo.

Absolutely. Its not a typical demo. I see it as an apology to the fanbase for taking so long and to prove to them that this is a real game that has had real progress made. It also gives you a general idea of what the game will be like.

Standards, expectations and the gaming market itself have changed since FFXII and FFXIII.
